i remember in the early 2010s, phones had solid build quality. Galaxy s series, early iPhones, htc, oneplus, etc all had sturdy plastic or metal bodies

but nowadays its an absolute requirement to add some bulky uncomfortable piece of plastic just so you can grip it correctly

i think it was a matter of expectations. The expectations from book readers who often hate film adaptions. And expectations from a typical comic book movie at the time were balanced, fun, and braindead. Non-book readers were going expecting to turn their brains off, but nope, it was a movie packed with grit, broken characters, brutal scenes showcasing the worst of humanity, and overall moral ambiguity.
