What's the motivation behind it? Do they get joy from helping others? Do they learn a game so well they don't want to forget it, so they write it down, and share it to the world?

Yeah, selling feet pics on Craigslist is far more lucrative of a career choice.

I wonder how often the guides here get used nowadays. I havent read one in like 15 years.

Feels like theres a specific enough YouTube video for every difficult part of a game now

I loved reading the Pokemon guides, particularly the ones where the authors detailed their team lineup at each major fight and Id try to copy them lol

I prefer text guides from here as opposed to video guides, especially if it's my first romp through a game. Unless you find a video for the VERY SPECIFIC SECTION you're stuck on (which I'm guessing probably isn't TOO hard, but still), then you've gotta scroll through the timebar to try and find where you need to be in the video. Scroll too far ahead, and you'll potentially get spoiled on something.

Granted, the same thing can happen in text guides, but I find I'm more likely to stop reading before I get spoiled if I DO go too far, whereas with video guides, once you see the frame of the video with the spoiler, it's all over. Plus, text guides let you CTRL+F, so if you know what you're looking for, you can search for it.

Despite everything I said about text>vid, this is true too.

Sometimes I'll read a text guide and when they tell me to do something specific, even if I understand what I'm looking for or what to do, I can't translate that into myself actually doing it in the game, if that makes sense. That's where video guides come into play: the visualization aspect of it can help put that final puzzle piece into place in my head.
