McDonald's revealed that it will soon remove cheeseburgers and chocolate milk from its Happy Meal menu in an attempt to cut down on the amount of unhealthy food consumed by children, and some say it's a result of former first lady Michelle Obama's initiative to make children healthier.

According to WPVI, McDonald's announced the plan to remove the items from the Happy Meal menu, which the company hopes cut down on the amount of calories, sodium, saturated fat, and sugar consumed by children at its restaurants.

Customers will still be able to ask for cheeseburgers and chocolate milk with the kid's meal, but the company said that not having the items listed on the menu will reduce how often they are ordered. Four years ago, in 2014, McDonald's removed soda from the Happy Meal menu and Happy Meal orders with soda fell 14 percent.

Parents and advocates have long criticized the fast food company for its contribution to childhood obesity. McDonald's has made a number of changes to their menu over the years to combat the issue, such as cutting down the size of its french fries portions and adding fruit to the menu. Recently, the company changed its apple juice to one with less sugar.

According to CNN, the company has been experimenting with new Happy Meal items around the world.

In Italy, the company recently released a grilled chicken sandwich, while locations in both France and Australia began exploring other vegetable and protein options.

Ernest Baskin, a professor of food marketing at Saint Joseph's University, said that the company is likely making the changes in order to both improve its image among parents and to reduce food costs.

"Kids do crave McDonald's, but parents might not always feel good about bringing them there," Baskin said. "By positioning their meals as healthier, McDonald's is likely attempting to make the decision easier for the parents."

McDonald's said that it is aiming for all of the Happy Meal options to have 600 or fewer calories and less than 650 milligrams of sodium. The company is also aiming to have less than 10 percent of each meal's calories come from saturated fat and added sugar.

The cheeseburger and chocolate milk on the Happy Meal menu did not meet those standards. The company reportedly hopes to have the chocolate milk back on the menu in the future, however, if it is able to cut sugar from the recipe. It is not clear when that will be.

In 2010, Michelle Obama launched the White House initiative "Let's Move!" in an effort to solve childhood obesity. The former first lady's program got kids more focused on physical exercise and promoted healthy eating in schools. The program sparked a nationwide conversation about what's healthy for kids, and some say that the recent move by McDonald's is a direct result of Michelle Obama's efforts.

McDonald's will reportedly be making other changes to the Happy Meal menu, as well. The six-piece chicken nugget Happy Meal will now come with a kids-sized fries instead of a small. Bottled water will also be added as an option on the menu, though it will cost extra.

Oh please, no child is fat because they had a burger at McDonalds, they're fat because they eat badly and don't exercise for a consistently long time.

This is like removing condom machines from bathrooms and then claiming it's to stop people from having too much sex.

Don't get me wrong, I support the intention. I just feel like this is posturing more than actual effectiveness.

I mean, you wanted the movie about the Norse god and the irradiated monster falling through space and landing on the other side of the galaxy into a gladiatorial arena run by an immortal trickster to be a serious reflection on humanity?

It was exactly what it should have been. I hate when superhero movies take themselves too seriously.

"Let me talk about how stupid the plot was a defense of how stupid the plot was."

That's circular logic.

Superman 2 WAS silly but still had plot elements that mattered, Batman Begins and Dark Knight were ridiculous but still had serious reflections on humanity.

Avengers kept the silliness and comedy but still had drama and moments that mattered. There was no point in Thor 3 were anyone at any time acted like anything whatsoever mattered.

Your argument is "It had to be a popcorn flick that was stupid and didn't matter because it was a popcorn flick that was stupid and didn't matter."

Not only is that a bad circular argument but it just leads into my point that its overrated.

As long as they're legally allowed to purchase them now, why would it be a problem?

Rifles, including the AR-15 and others, only account for 4% of firearm deaths (about 1300/year in the USA). You're more likely to get killed in a car accident than by an AR-15...

Nearly 1.3 million people die in road crashes each year, on average 3,287 deaths a day. An additional 20-50 million are injured or disabled.
In 2013, there were 73,505 nonfatal firearm injuries, and 33,636 deaths due to "injury by firearms".

Almost 3 times more people die in car accidents every day than are killed by all rifles, including the AR-15.

Difference is hundreds of millions of people use cars every day to get from A to B all the time

The police officers who arrived on the scene of Jennifer Linds car accident back in December 2013 say that she was lucky to come out of the incident alive. Not only lucky to have her life, but the wreck led to the love her life.

Lind was driving to River Vale, New Jersey when her car hit a patch of black ice. She lost control of the steering and skidded into the safety rail. Nicholas Angelus was driving behind Lind when he saw the disaster unfolding. Though he tried to use his emergency break, his was the first car to collide with hers.

He quickly jumped out of his car, opened the door to Linds vehicle, made sure that she was okay, and offered her his coat so she could stay warm. A while after the incident, Angelus called Linds phone. She thought that he might be trying to file a lawsuit against her but he actually asked her out on a date.

Lind and Angelus tied the knot in October and its all thanks to the car accident that sent them crashing into each others lives.

There may have been a basketball tournament going on in Carroll County, Missouri earlier this week, but the actions of a group of cheerleaders stole the show.

The footage in the video from the CLAA conferences basketball tournament was sent to WDAF Kansas City by a mom named Brenda Milligan, whose daughter is a cheerleader for Hardin-Central High School.

Milligans daughter was part of a group of cheerleaders who noticed that the opposing team, Northwestern, only had a single cheerleader on their side.

She was embarrassed and scared, just like any of us would be if we had to cheer in front of a big crowd all alone, Brenda told WDAF.

But the cheerleader wouldnt be alone for much longer.

My daughter and her squad took the nerve and went out to cheer with her, Brenda said. They learned her cheers and were able to present them to the crowd in a short amount of time. Many people were there supporting the girls in this great achievement.

The lone cheerleader from Northwestern, Tori Adams, said that she had been performing alone because many of her teammates were sick. The game had also been rescheduled, which conflicted with other members prior commitments. Nonetheless, she was thankful the opposing squad joined her.

They learned some of my cheers and I learned some of their cheers, Tori said. It was a big relief.

You're just demonstrating that you don't know what contrarian means.

It does not mean "man who is smarter then me disagreeing with me intelligently who I want to insult"

It means going against popular opinion

E.g 98% of Scientists agree that man made pollution is having a large negative effect on climate change.

So those 2% who don't are contrarians

Being contrarian isn't inheritly good or bad. Atheists are contrarian, Trump supporters, vegetarians, people who liked event horizon are contrarian.

And since I agree with the consensus on a vast majority of things, I am not contrarian.

Yeah Blade wasn't a movie about black people in a black country

It was just a movie with a black lead.

You now who else used children to ban guns?

Hitler.

You know who else drank water?

Hitler.

Think about that the next time you reach for a glass.

Based on the stupidity of this response you shouldn't be allowed to own a gun.

I think it's a fair point.

Responding to "Gun Controll helped stop mass shootings in every nation on Earth"

with "Oh yeah? Well then that means it helped EVIL nations with EVIL rulers!"

Is a stupid point.

The Nazis promoted Animal Cruelty Laws, Drove Cars, Drank Milk, Went to school. You need more than "Well they did it therefore it's bad"

Edit: @UnfairRepresent that's the whole point though. An AR can easily be classified as a extreme weapon.

I don't see how.

Why is an AR especially dangerous?

You think if this kid had a couple of Glocks instead of an AR he couldn't have killed 17 kids?

How are we violating the second amendment?

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

If we introduce gun-control such as for example Banning AR-15s. Then we are infringing on the right to bear arms.

I'm not someone who thinks gun control is gonna be a magical solution. I fully admit I'm in the camp of "it literally can't hurt".

Ah but can it tho?

What if gun ownership is decreasing violent crimes? Something that's got some evidence to support it.

What if we increase gun laws and we still have mass shootings but now more innocent people are dying too?

It could hurt. and that's what conservatives fear.

District of Columbia Vs Heller laid out a pretty good foundation for us.

I don't get it.

Didn't that just said you can own guns even if you're part of any military or milita group?

Which just enforces that banning guns is infringing rights

"Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited. It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose: For example, concealed weapons prohibitions have been upheld under the Amendment or state analogues."

A very key part of the ruling.

I don't see how that ruling dictates that banning AR-15s is not infringing on rights to bear arms.

It seems more like it's talking about people owning unreasable gear, like RM-70 Multiple Rocket Launchers or concealed carrying AR-15s.

It even uses concealed carry as it's example. I think "Any weapon whatsoever" is the key wording there. They're talking about extreme weapons.

and let terrorists run their lives.

Yeah damn England for creating the Patriot act, starting pointless wars overseas and spending 100 billion dollars on anti-terrorist activities that have had no known successes.

Oh wait...

Actually they have possibly even more spying than the US and they've been our biggest partners in the overseas stuff so this sarcasm didn't actually work.

Not really.

Since the US is still the worst offender.

Not really defending the UK, just pointing out that terrorists have literaly had more control dictating policy in America than the president has since 2001.

Kinda reminds me of Chris Benoit.

I would like to hear more of his story, because of him, people with strong political beliefs are being so vile and hateful to each other, saying "No it is ONLY about GUNS! A GUN DID IT!"
"No its Mental Health"

Heres a clue people: its BOTH.

Benoit didn't use guns.

I don't like it.

I know people like to say "Death should have consequences, there should be a punishment for failing in games"

But either doing something easy for 15 minutes or watching an unskippable cutscene is neither a good challenge nor entertaining.

I think bosses should be designed to be difficult, so you beat them 1st or second time (but barely) and the time between failure state and getting back in the game should be as short as humanly possible.

There are games I flat out didn't complete because the loading time was so long that if you died or wanted to stop it wasn't fun to sit through the screens. So I just played different better games
