i have mixed feelings about this
yes, its very annoying if you die but, if you can die and just reset immediately, theres no tension in the boss fight --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

I don't like it.
I know people like to say "Death should have consequences, there should be a punishment for failing in games" But either doing something easy for 15 minutes or watching an unskippable cutscene is neither a good challenge nor entertaining. I think bosses should be designed to be difficult, so you beat them 1st or second time (but barely) and the time between failure state and getting back in the game should be as short as humanly possible. There are games I flat out didn't complete because the loading time was so long that if you died or wanted to stop it wasn't fun to sit through the screens. So I just played different better games --- ^ Hey now that's completely unfair. https://imgtc.com/i/14JHfrt.jpg ... Copied to Clipboard!

ffiv is the greatest game of all time I enjoyed it for sure, but it's got some bullshit design at points. You have to do nearly half of the final dungeon if you die to the final boss, and there's a fairly high chance of dying on your way back down. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

I remember games like Phantasy Star IV where there were no save points in dungeons at all, and only one or two times where you could save before a boss fight.

but, if you can die and just reset immediately, theres no tension in the boss fight Only in theory. I don't think I've ever saved before an rpg boss and felt the challenge/tension was ruined. A boss should be challenging on its own merits not because you have to spend 15 minutes to get back to it or suffer unskippable cutscenes etc. --- http://i.imgur.com/nGZeEqw.png Do you really think you can beat me? ...
