I think if it's something you're telling yourself, it's not so bad. Even if it's just fluff, sometimes fluff will help you get through a bad situation. And sometimes it helps you realize the situation actually isn't as bad as you originally thought.

If it's something you're telling someone else, you probably shouldn't. Anytime life takes a shit on me and someone tries to cheer me up by telling me it could've shat more so I should be grateful I want to put their head through a wall. I don't think, coming from someone else, it's ever made me feel better.
