If you have a balcony you can grow your own food, not a lot of it but you didn't specify quantity.

Yeah, I live in the Midwest in legitimately one of the best places for growing food. Heavy agriculture state where we have amazing black soil and lots of farms everywhere. #1 producer in corn, #2 in soybeans, #1 in pork production, #1 egg producer, and fairly high producers of both dairy and beef.

Virtually everyone has big gardens and farmers markets are everywhere. In the summer everyone and their neighbor is trying to give away tomatoes and zucchini because they grow like crazy for everyone.

I do my own home canning too. Lots of garden stuff. Tomato sauce, spaghetti sauce, salsa, all kinds of different vegetables and fruits, jams, other stuff. To give you just a sample of how much I can I make a sweet zucchini relish that is similar to a sweet pickle relish but better. Its so good and I get so many requests for it I need to make a lot of it.

Last time I made it I made I made 16 cases, 192 jars. I wasnt even a huge relish fan until I was given this recipe but its so good and has such a fresh garden taste I cant help but like it and use it. Here was just the relish portion of my summer canning.

I tried it in 2020. For anything beyond herbs, it was not worth it for the water usage alone.

If there werent laws against it, I could go out a few times a year with a penetrating captive bolt pistol and bag me a deer. Process it, freeze it, and eat off of it for months. Its also easy as breathing to grow peppers around here.

I answered not no, because I have the knowledge and debatably time and resources. But I have very limited space to try and grow food, and a lot of food wont even grow around here (at least outdoors). Or it will grow, but the insects and small mammals all compete for it.

I CAN but dont. But I do a lot of canning and vacuum sealing / freezing of meat. Every winter we buy, kill, and butcher hogs for pork. Last year I canned probably over 200 wide mouthed pints and 72 wide mouthed quarts in an All American 941 41 quart pressure canner.

I'd have to have a vegetarian diet.

I have to room for a decent sized garden to grow food, and could even put up a decent sized chicken coop if I wanted to, but I don't think I have what it takes to raise and kill my own chickens for food.
