Way back in college (late 90s) - at first it seemed interesting, but when they started asking me to call friends with them in the room to set up meetings I was surprised. The surprise turned into wariness when they wouldn't let me say anything to the friend about WHAT the business was during the phone call, just wanted me to promise a "great financial opportunity".

I could tell she was a freak but she was afraid to let the flag fly. We dated again after but I didn't want to have sex. Was too weird the first time.

Do you have a source for this (lots of colleges providing play doh/coloring books)? Admiral once linked an article that listed one of each, but not "lots of universities", and all of them were after the election

http://www.edchange.org/publications/Activist-Burnout-Chen-Gorski.pdf

Also there are more, but those are paywall academic account required.
So a few reflections:
1) You mention "Forced involvement", the second article is about people that have been active for years
2) The post you were responding to was from somebody saying they shut off social media, which isn't the same as the active involvement mentioned in the second article.
3) The first article is from 1994, well before ANY social media, so doesn't really support your argument
4) Perhaps most damming, the second article utilizes grounded theory - this is a qualitative method (found shared themes) not quantitative (finding one group greater than another). The article states "All SJH had preexisting burnout", but that doesn't help your argument that "Forced involvement in social movements" leads to burnout. It could be that people already more idealistic are attracted and thus have "higher to fall"(even mentioned in the discussion section).

Also you didn't answer my first question - was the poster really talking about SJH movements when he/she said turning off social media helped his/her mental state?

It has its moments, but they really fucked up the overall story. If I recall correctly, didnt that movie establish that he left New York and became an LA cop? Because they retconned the fuck out of that in 3.
I *thought* 3 stated he came back to NY after it turned out he and Holly couldn't work it out in LA (it was more than just distance that had caused the strife). I thought it was an appropriate progression - 1 had uncertainty, 2 had hope, 3 showed the downfall, and 4 showed the aftermath/acceptance

The point is it's not. If some guy gave into his instincts and banged a teenager then how many people here would be calling for him to be murdered? It happens in literally every topic on this very forum about crime. So the mob rule instinct by want g to extract violent revenge is ok, but having sex with an attractive woman isn't.

The fact is, we arent "civilized" at all. We like to think we're better then those that came before us, but there is literally no difference. Just because we shit in a toilet instead of the bushes doesn't change the fact that all our behaviors are the same. We have the same instincts and the same desires, whether that be sexually or violently, we still think and act the same way our ancestors did. Putting lipstick on a pig doesn't change the fact that you still have a pig.

So there is no difference between human society now and in and in the past? EVERY ONE of our behaviors are the same?

One little thing I did like in the terrible human storyline is that it's implied the entire plot is kicked off because Medivh was subconsciously seeking out Garona's mom.

What did you think was terrible about the human storyline?

I co-sign most of this. If he was the actual parent and not someone fuckin his sister, my whole take would be completely different. But you should know how young adults feel when even a step dad comes in at that age. Their default is usually "fuck this guy and everything about him". And this is even under that. He's someone barely older. I do agree that him taking him in under his roof should warrant home some respect. But the kid probably sees it more so as his sister taking him in and TC just being there too.

I do admit, that I lost my stride in my last few posts, cause it got later in the night. I smoked and lost a lot of my seriousness.

But as I see it, it's not like the kid is shitting on him while he's actually there. He's just not trying to be held down by TC. If anything TC should talk to his sister and she should have the conversation with him. She might have his respect more than TC does. I could be bias, since I grew up with 3 sisters myself that I barely ever got confrontational with. Or that could be legit experience giving me a better take. I only got one potent perspective like everyone else.

Appreciate the honesty - and you are right, TC and the sister should be on the same page about what they want for the brother. I've worked with/know a lot of young adults (or even 16/17 year olds) who (as you say) have that default already developing.. sadly it often externalizes to the world around them. It sounds like it didn't with you, which is great :)

Whatever mistakes they've made, they should move forward and not scratch off adaptations as non-canon. Sure, actors are gonna look different from film to film. Batman had that bad day when he was willing to murder an innocent man because said innocent might turn against society. Yes, Joker acted a little weird that one time. His tattoos can be removed and we'll just forget we ever saw those grills. And, yes, Lex Luthor was a rich kid who thought piss jokes were funny.

But to say Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Shazam are canon and the rest are not is too much of a clusterfuck. This is a new precedent and not a very good one. It stings. Even for somebody with only a casual awareness of what goes on in comics, this is not how it should be. But they can't up and reboot when they have three good films to their credit, a possible fourth and fifth ones on the way, and a shared Justice League film.

Good point and well written - keeping the overrall history of movies has more to add to continuity/world building than the individual drawbacks of BvS etc

Not gonna lie, that was tongue in cheek. But, this is still normal behavior for 18 year olds around here.

I'm going to throw my two cents in, both from working in therapy/social services for a decade and lots of personal stories from friends.

Just because you feel it's normal behavior (and I'm not sure I'd be OK with pregnancy scares being normal) doesn't mean we/TC can't address it in a more direct manner than "I'm your buddy". For better or worse, the adult (still with a child's mind) is living with him, and TC and his gf seem to have taken on the caregiver role.
By no means am I saying TC should call the police on him for staying out late, but discussing rules/expectations is perfectly reasonable while the brother is staying at his place. The intention is to help build awareness of the importance of following rules/laws to get what you want in life, but delivered through the immediate vehicle of rewarding positive behavior ("You get to keep staying here")

On a related note, I've seen soooo many personal stories of what you say - "I'm 18, eff off, you can't tell me what to do" and it's been tough to say how they'd end up. One (25) is now in big boy jail on drug distribution charges.. another (31) is finishing a dentistry residency...
