A 23" Samsung hybrid TV/Monitor. I got it like 10 years ago so they probably don't exist anymore. Back when I switched to PS3 I was still using my GXTV. HD was too expensive. One of my earliest Amazon purchases was the 20" version of this set for my PC (closer to 15 years? When did HL2 ruin PC forever?). Of course only after a price drop. Got the bigger one when they were clearing out.

And much like last time, I say 4k doesn't do enough for the price. We'll see after another 5 or 10 years.

And if that was what she (or he) actually wanted, she could easily have set her Twitter to private, or stuck to posting on private forums or other non-public forms of social media. Conversely, she could have written up her ideas as an article and posted them on some static form of media rather than posting them in a format that literally exists solely to facilitate the ebb and flow of discussion between multiple people in a public space.

It's exactly the same as when people make a topic on PotD, get responses they don't like, and then complain about not asking people for their opinions - and then get absolutely shit on for it. We all implicitly understand that by posting in a place like this, you are inviting response from others - whether you like that response or not. And that demanding people only reply if they agree with what you're saying or otherwise want to praise your ideas or be supporting is pretty much an invitation to have your teeth kicked in.

If you don't want people responding to your posts, you should probably STOP POSTING ON THE INTERNET.

Again, solely without context and within their own isolated sphere, his posts weren't that bad. But they were wrong, tone-deaf as fuck, and posted at precisely the wrong time and in the wrong place. And thus he got caught up in the backlash when if he'd just kept his head down and his mouth shut, he would still be working there. Like it or not, actions have consequences. Those consequences don't always seem fair, or even proportional, but that's life.

I currently own 24 games on the PS4. Of those, none of them are sports games, and only one of them would really fall under the guise of FPS - and of them all, precisely two of them are on the Switch (Skyrim and Minecraft: Story Mode).

Of the few games I'm looking forward to on the horizon, precisely zero of them are being released on the Switch.

So the problem becomes, while we can phrase things in the way of a tautology ("the Switch is the perfect console for people who want to play the games that are on the Switch"), I'd argue that it isn't necessarily "a great console for anything outside FPS shooters and sports games". Especially if someone doesn't give a single wet shit about Nintendo first party fare.

Once first party is out of the equation, I wouldn't say it's necessarily a better platform for any specific genre (except maybe JRPG) than any of the other consoles or PC already are.

But I'm more than willing to be proven wrong. Give me a list of your top 20 "must own" Switch games, and maybe you'll come up with some I didn't even think of, which will somehow sway my previous "not giving a shit" perspective (but again, you probably want to steer clear of things like Odyssey or Breath of the Wild or Smash Bros, because those probably aren't selling me on anything - their predecessors certainly never sold me on the Wii-U, or the Wii, or the GameCube, or the N64).

There is no way you played any of those Zelda or Mario games.

He stepped into a situation that didn't concern him, and it blew up in his face. In and of itself, without context and completely isolated from all other factors, no, what he said wasn't really worth firing. But in context, it helped exacerbate the situation and made him a target, while the other person involved was/is constantly throwing gasoline on to an already blazing fire and screaming her own self-perceived martyrdom.

There is literally no way he was walking away from this unscathed. And honestly, there's no real way he could have walked away from it unscathed without hurting the company's public image. He was doomed the moment he posted that message, and it's very much a "fair, next" situation.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again - if people don't like the idea that one stray thought or comment can destroy their entire life as the masses turn against them for it, they need to stay the fuck off Twitter. Like it or not, there is an implicit responsibility and acceptance of potential consequences when you post publicly on social media, especially when you do so in a capacity that reflects upon your employer. And yes, that employer is absolutely justified in cutting you the fuck loose if your own behavior has made you a PR liability in a business that is like 90% PR-driven.

If he'd posted as "Peter Fries, private individual" he probably would have been fine. But he posted as "Peter Fries, Guild Wars writer" (while she herself was creating the firestorm as "Jessica Price, Guild Wars writer", he was effectively representing the company in a public space.

Perhaps next time, he'll think harder before throwing himself on the grenade for someone causing a massive PR shitstorm almost entirely by her own actions. It will be valuable life experience for his next job.

He said something wrong. It just wasn't as wrong as anything she said, and arguably wasn't wrong enough to justify firing. But it was wrong enough, at precisely the wrong time, in the wrong situation, to lead to him getting equally fucked.

The real problem is that she created the firestorm and was justifiably burned by it, but he jumped into a situation that was already catching fire, and got burned by his own ill-thought out action. Had his specific comment been more defensible even by the detractors (in a "I disagree but acknowledge your logic" sort of way, rather than a "you're blatantly wrong and defending a repugnant lunatic" sort of way), or had the situation been less volatile, he likely would have survived it. As is, he picked up a stick of live dynamite, and it's not surprising that it blew his hand off.

Ultimately, the fair thing in this scenario would be if he could at least get rehired elsewhere with little to no blowback from the Internet, while she should never be hired by any company with even a pretense of public relations or audience interaction until she at least demonstrates that she understands what she did wrong and honestly regrets her actions (which she will almost certainly never, ever do).

No he didn't. Not one bit was what he said bad. He just had a moron as a boss. With her everything was completely different.
