The Beastren are an interesting design. Very cat like but at the same time not very cat like. They have pretty feline faces but at the same time not really because of the elf ear and human facial structure, at best you can give them a snub muzzle. Oh and no tails either.

You should read the translation of the late Takeshi Shudo's novelization of the anime, that man had some wild ideas that never materialized in the main series. He was the head writer of the original anime and wrote the script for the first three movies, he left a blog where he talked about his time spent as head writer of the original anime. Suffice to say while the vision of Satoshi Tajiri was a fantastical and idealized version of his childhood Shudo saw Pokemon setting about humanity vs nature and the conclusion was a revolt which he compares to Spartacus slave revolt against Rome.

I agree. Typical anime style is highly stylized with lack of facial definition. Noses and lips are prominent in human beings but are practically nonexistent in most anime styles, or at best partially defined and you also have huge eyes. Games like tlou are going for realism, not a highly stylized art style.

Its a game in the vain of Lethal Company, it blew up thanks to streamers and youtubers talking about it. But even lethal company has 50k people playing it right now so it may have staying power.

I think Orangutans, more than any other ape, seem to have the ability to trigger the uncanny valley sense in a person. Like they have just enough human-esque behaviors and manorisms to weird you out when you see them come from a human-shaped, but clearly non-human body.

Thats never been implied. In fact Masuda said that humans and Pokemon are two separate things, and lore wise humans dont shrink so theyre not Pokemon.

Aside from it being a childrens franchise the reason humans are still around is because Pokemon are basically magical dogs. Theyre naturally affectionate towards humans, legends of Arceus implies this and Dr. Footsteps goes as far as to say wild Pokemon are wildly jealous at domestic Pokemon. Just like real life dogs Pokemon being friendly towards humans is in their dna. Another thing is that Pokemon elemental attacks may not be super strong, this is why a Snubull can die from a real fire but tank a move like flamethrower. Superhuman feats can be attributed to cartoon physics.

Bite may be Dark type and lions may be no type but Ghost types are still GHOSTS. The lions would have to be able to get a hit in. Other Pokmon can manage because those are the rules and they have Types. But by your logic, lions being no type would not be able to hurt Ghost types even if they tried biting them because they are ghosts. If lions have no type, their bites also have no types and so the question would be if a lion can physically hurt something like a ghost. By our world's logic, they cannot. The lore of our world states that most ghosts do not have physical bodies.

Correction but ghost types in Pokemon arent actual ghosts and can still get hit by physical attacks. The series actually dealt with this with Mimikins, the ghost of a Mimikyu.

Yeah thats the point I was making even pointing out that Sugimori said as much, they put portraying Pokemon as friendly and charming above everything else even if it contradicts the lore they wrote on the Pokdex.

I can see why confusion over the dex stems from. Pokemon sometimes the way the dex depicts them, like how are most ghost type Pokemon allowed to live in cities? How are humans, who are lacking compared to Pokemon, the dominant species?

Sugimori in an interview stated that they want to depict Pokemon in a friendly and charming way even if they have scary backstories via the Pokedex.

Tajiri, Pokemon creator, conceptualized Pokemon as naturally friendly creatures in the vain of domestic cats and dogs, in his own biography and things he wrote in the 90s he compared Pokemon to cats and dogs. So the series tries to keep true to this but Pokemon are still depicted with having awesome abilities like in RSE.

it really depends on this context. Theres subcultures that can really ramp up count due to how art centric they are. Furries in particular can be a force multiplier, I think the best example is Digimon. Someone on Reddit pointed out that Renamon makes up like 60% of all Digimon nsfw at a staggering 22k pictures, by comparison the most conventional attractive Digimon, angewomon, sits at 900 below Leomon. I dont think Digimon is that popular nor do I think this particular Digimon is popular with fans, but it is popular in a subculture that produces a lot of that type of art.

That tag list is a little misleading. A lot of those tags are still going to tagged in images of anthro Pokemon / "pokemorphs" which are just the furries based on Pokemon instead of real animals.

To out the above results in perspective the only Pokemon that surpass Ninetales in smash percent are Vaporeon, Lopunny, Gardevoir, Zoroark and Delphox.

I personally believe its because the ponies are cute. A similar phenomenon is seen in Pokemon with the eeveelutions in which theyre considered attractive despite being quadruped creatures .

Another poll, Pokesmash, which is heavily used by streamers, is aimed at a general audience and has a sample size of over half a million, has Vaporeon, Ninetales and Sylveon beat every Pokemon in smash percent except for Gardevoir, Lopunny, Zoroark and Delphox. I see it more as in being cute washes away any shame on these characters being quadruped in shape, much like the eeveelutions the mlp ponies are heavily inspired by kawaii anime designs.

Also I think we have to define what we mean by turn based because the only thing most of those games have in common is that you take turns in battle but they all play very differently. BG3 is more tactical and takes after the divinity series versus something more traditional four people in a row type of gameplay.

Persona 5 has 7 million, Undertale has 7 million on Steam, and Three Houses has 4 million as an exclusive. FFXVI might eventually surpass TH but probably not before it stops being an exclusive and it does not seem like the type of game to have strong legs like them.

FF16 sold 3 million copies in a week. We dont know how much it sold overall but statements from square seem to indicate it met expectations. Again 3 million copies sold during its first week almost beats out most of the titles you mentioned that have been out for years.

I was just listing something with a similar style that was well received. If we're looking at broad sales as a whole the elephant in the room is Pokemon. Persona, Undertale, even Fire Emblem Three Houses did better than FF16 too.

Did they? I cant find a total number of sales but apparently FF16 sold 3 million copies in a week while being an exclusive. IIRC the game met square expectations so it was by no means a commercial failure.
