Palworld has 162,464 people playing it on Steam right now.

For a game people keep on announcing is a fad or is dead it's spending a shocking amount of time having an incredibly high player count.

Helldivers didnt blow up like that, and palworld will probably retain a lot of players even if i hate it

Helldivers at least looks like a fun game. Palworld just seems like a chore

Becoming popular by non-traditional means isn't a fad game. It is the same as any other AAA game that dumps their money into a marketing campaign that builds hype and the game only sees it biggest audience a couple months after launch.

So the game has you fight "commies" (robots), bugs (bugs), calls Super Earth's government an, ahem, "managed democracy", and throws away lives into the cogs of war and government much in the same way that fascist societies do (you die A LOT and respawn with new drop pods all the time).

Starship Troopers is a very real influence to the game, and it shows in every fascet of the game. And Starship Troopers (the movie, at least) is a blatant critique of fascism and people who aren't aware that they live under a fascist government--much like in Helldivers.

Its a game in the vain of Lethal Company, it blew up thanks to streamers and youtubers talking about it. But even lethal company has 50k people playing it right now so it may have staying power.

First impressions, Palworld seems to have more depth than Helldivers.

A pity then that the message that the folks behind the production of the film intended to spread got lost in the cool factor of space marines fighting giant bugs while wearing snappy uniforms, wouldnt you agree?

Yeah, I fully agree. I feel the same about people who think that Cyberpunk isn't a critique of capitalism. Idiots that do more harm to the public than good.

For the record, I first saw Starship Troopers as a fun bug stomping romp--but that's because I was a kid when I saw it. Now, looking at the modern-day world, I am horrified when I watch it. And that's the danger here: if you cannot see satire, then it looks like a good movie. Too many people either can't or don't want to see the satire in that film. Of 40k for that matter.

I'm currently having alot of fun with the game. Though Im still not sure why democracy would matter at all to a bunch of insects and robots tbh.

Maybe its just my gaming laptop but theres a slight amount of input lag and the death animations are bush league.

It's definitely meant to be played in a team like Lethal Company, and will have similar unscripted set-piece moments. Also, there's the simple joy in calling in multiple airstrikes and watching bugs and robots get ripped apart by your 'freedom rockets'.

The devs also kept Helldivers 1 fairly well-updated. I can certainly see this having DRG-esque staying power.

CE is very antagonistic against any game thats fun to play with friends.

Nope.

Helldivers has me hooked. I put 10 hours into Palworld and feel like I got my fill. Maybe once they fix the entire game I'll jump back in. But the state that it's in right now is pretty poor.

We got Pokemon with guns, and Starship Trooper the game, now it's time for some Diablo 4 comparision.

It's wonderful to simply see such nice games getting released out of nowhere, being fun, compared to getting hyped for AAA games which end up disappointing.

Interesting. I hadn't heard of Last Epoch until now. Might have to check it out. It sounds like the complexity is deeper than Diablo, but less extreme than PoE. And it can be played offline, so Cheat Engine can be used to tweak drop rates to my liking (I'm sorry Diablo, but I don't want end game progression to feel like a 2nd job).

Because CE is now literally the PTA moms from the 90s.

It's just that social mores have changed, and being the churchgoing super mom isn't seen as the shining and socially acknowledged explar we should all look up to. Different things are in now.

Everybody knows we can't possibly have two separate popular games come out in back-to-back months

I'm having a ton of fun in Helldivers right now, playing with one friend pretty consistently or sometimes joining randoms of I can play when they're not on. It's easier with a full squad of 4 people, but getting 2 randoms to join us doesn't always work, idk why.

We also played Palworld a lot, and will continue to do so, but there seems to be a lot of memory leak issues when you play in a server long enough and the FPS drops to crazy low levels. We're both waiting for some more updates to fix it before we continue in Palworld. Great game though.

Palworld and Helldivers 2 are not fads. They are both good.

I will admit I have taken a week from playing Palworld because I am replaying Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst.

As a HD1 player, I'm very pleased with HD2's success.

I feel HD2 is gonna have strong staying power. There's a strong indication that we're gonna get mechs in a couple of days.

Mechs aren't very strong in the first game, but they could be with the proper support.
