That's really the big thing. Give people the chance to voice their displeasure or dip out if they're unhappy with you talking to more than one prospective partner. Transparency is important at any stage of a relationship. It's important that everyone knows what's going on so they can make informed decisions about how much they want to commit.

My girlfriend of nearly 25 years has continued to stay with me in spite of one of our first dates involving me emphatically pointing out that I was never, ever going to get married.

Of course, considering one of our first dates also had her voicing her opinion that "Babies are like alien parasites that grow inside of you, no thanks", we've fortunately been on the same page when it comes to relationship stuff from fairly early on.

But with someone else, who viewed marriage and kids to be a huge part of their ideal future plans, it wouldn't have been a very appealing option. And it would have been unfair to everyone involved to just string each other along for months (or years) in the hopes of convincing the other person to eventually change their mind. Or eventually coercing them into changing their mind via threats or emotional blackmail.

If two people have radically different ideas of what they want a relationship to be, it's much better to try and discuss that in advance rather than just wait until it turns into a huge fight/breakup over it.

Lolyeah. Even if you release ten albums and 30 singles doesn't mean any of them got a lick of airtime. GnR has 3-4 famous singles that non fans know. None of their singles in the past 20 years have hit any significant chart level outside a couple european countries.

lolno

You're still missing the point of my dismissiveness. You keep saying that "they have like 3 singles that are widely known and popular, yet all of said singles come from their debut album", and that statement is objectively wrong. Speaking as a non-GnR fan who is one of the few people on this board old enough to have been listening to Top 40 radio for the entirety of their career, I'm in a unique position to tell you that you're basically full of shit.

I'm not talking about their multiple albums over the last 25 years, I'm talking about their career in the late 80s/early 90s. Their first THREE albums (four if you count Use Your Illusion I and II separately (but I won't) sold extremely well (all went multi-platinum). Their successful singles came from ALL THREE albums, and 6 charted top 10, while 2 others charted top 50 (and about 2-3 others used to get significant airplay even without officially charting). They got TONS of fucking airplay at the time, and even today you'll still hear any number of those singles still get airplay on any station that still plays music from that era (which I do, which is how I know).

No, it isn't just Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, and Sweet Child of Mine that gets any recognition today. Don't Cry, November Rain, and Knockin' On Heaven's Door still get pretty regular exposure, Patience still crops up from time-to-time, and even their cover of Live and Let Die gets played every now and then. And hell, I'm pretty sure I've heard Mr. Brownstone more in the last 10 years than I did when it was actually released (it wasn't a major hit at the time).

And that's deliberately ignoring You Could Be Mine, which benefited hugely from the Terminator 2 tie-in at the time, and still gets airplay now because of how big it was then.

They had TONS of airplay during that 5 year or so period from '87 to '92 (give or take), and nostalgia for that has fueled replays on "classic rock" stations right up to the current day. If you're not hearing them today, you almost certainly aren't listening to any stations that actually play 80s/90s rock, which sort of makes your observation meaningless.

Your entire premise is flawed right out of the gate, and literally nothing you've said since has really addressed that in any meaningful way.

Or to sum up - lolno.

Poll is missing a "none of the above" option.

If this was 25 years ago I would have said NHL, because I actually cared about it at that point, but I stopped giving a shit after the 2004 lockout. Haven't watched a single game since.

I pretty much loathe baseball and basketball in general, and always have.

I voted NFL by default because I do generally watch the Super Bowl. And one game a year is still more than any other major sport. It's pretty much the only sports event I watch, period (unless you want to count professional wrestling as a sport).

But I wouldn't really call myself a "fan" of the NFL either, considering I don't pay any attention to the regular season or playoffs, and didn't even know the Raiders relocated for like 4 years. And I stopped caring about "my team" years ago (and as far as I'm concerned, "my team" ceased to exist a few months after the Raiders moved).

high elf > wood elf > argonian > dark elf >>> the rest

That's pretty much the bottom of my list.

It depends on the game and what type of character I'm planning to play (warrior, mage, archer, etc), but I generally go with Nord/Imperial top, Breton/Redguard next, High Elves, then Wood Elves, Dark Elves, then Orcs/Khajiit/Argonians dead last.

In Oblivion my main was an Imperial, and I can't remember whether or not I did other runs.

In Skyrim, I went with Nord first/primary, then a Redguard to do Companion quests, a Breton for the Thieves' Guild, and a Khajiit for the Dark Brotherhood. Then I did a few more Nords on my next version of the game, along with a couple more Bretons, an Imperial, and an Orc. And I did one run as an "undercover Thalmor"/exile High Elf.

In ESO I went with a Breton first/main for Daggerfall, then a Wood Elf for Aldmeri Dominion, then I started a Dark Elf for Ebonheart (though I mostly regretted it and wished I'd gone with a Nord instead) that I never really finished, and I did the Morrowind expansion as a Nord and the Thieves' Guild storyline as a Breton.

If I bother to get ESVI at all, I'll probably go Breton or Redguard to start.

Lmao @ the people thinking they'll be given special treatment and privileges arriving there when even the Devil himself suffers in hell.

Canonically Hell isn't even that bad - it's just a place like any other. Early Church writers and Dante are the ones most responsible for the idea that Hell is a place of physical torment. And the idea of Hell being a place of psychological torment is even newer.

The original point of Hell was that it was just a place where you would exist outside of God's grace and God's love. Which is literally the worst thing anyone can experience. Just knowing that God has stopped caring about you is supposed to be the most soul-crushing feeling ever. Like the worst sense of depression combined with feeling worthless, broken, and empty.

But it's really hard for people to process the idea of that - so if you want to use the idea of Hell to terrify people into worshiping your religion, you kind of have to make it scary in a way they can understand and actually fear. So we got fire, stabby pitchforks, and torture of all kinds.

Except, of course, it's a given that Fandom's efforts to make that shift would inevitably just make the site more like the wikis they already have (which is... bad. Very bad.)

I'm going to be honest, some of those wikis are part of the reason why I haven't used a FAQ on this site in about 15 years.

The problem with FAQs is that most of them here are kind of shit. And even the good ones are usually more awkward to navigate than a wiki. Between wiki sites and YouTube walkthrough and tip videos, you'll generally get all of the info (and more) that you would ever get from a FAQ here, in a more efficient form.

It doesn't help that most of the really skilled FAQmakers of yore (like A_I_e_x) aren't really making FAQs anymore, and they haven't really been replaced by anyone of comparable skill. So GameFAQs is already mostly coasting off of decades old FAQs as-is.

As designed the system is supposed to supplement well-written FAQs with a message board system where you can ask more obscure questions that aren't answered in a FAQ. But with most FAQs being substandard and most game boards being incredibly antisocial and unhelpful, GameFAQs doesn't really offer anything anymore that can't be gotten elsewhere better and more efficiently. Even Fandom's wikis are generally better.

And all of this probably isn't helped by the fact that the younger generation generally just looks on Google (or uses Alexa/Siri/etc) to ask a specific question, then follows whatever the first link they find to the answer (I know my 20-something nephew does this), which generally just points them to wiki pages or YouTube videos. So even if the answers are here on GameFAQs, the target audience they're looking for is never going to find them, and never going to care.

Melody_JR posted...
What the heck is hornyposting and why is it wrong?

The motivating logic is probably the same logic the site used to have originally - if something is inappropriate for a younger user, it shouldn't be on a site that exists to discuss video games.

The site used to have a little leeway because you had to be at least 12 to make an account here, and enforcement has gotten a lot more slack over the years because the user base was getting older and older in general so the people running things were willing to allow a bit more "mature" content, but Fandom clearly wants to try and start pulling in more younger users (and honestly, they probably need to if they actually want to keep the site alive), so it looks like they're going to try and start trying to make things more "family friendly" again.

The problem is they're not likely to actually pull in younger users because the site design has been obsolete for nearly 20 years, so all they're really doing is chasing off existing users in a desperate attempt to bring in new users that will never come (sort of the same thing the comic book industry has been doing over the last decade or so).

Being forced to eat creamed spinach as a kid pretty much guaranteed I'll never eat it again once I had a say in the matter. Shit was disgusting.

The funny part is, I'm willing to say that I'd probably be able to tolerate or even enjoy raw spinach as an adult, but being forced to choke it down and fight back against vomiting as a kid has pretty much rendered me psychological incapable of ever trying it.

As a related aside, I find creamed corn to be equally disgusting, but love corn in general. So in that case at least it's definitely a texture thing. Which is part of why I assume the spinach thing might be the same.

I'd argue that most people do follow a religion, even if they don't admit it.

The more vocal Internet Atheists essentially have a strong belief system rooted purely in faith (ie, that there is definitely no god or higher power), and can be as judgmental and dogmatic about it much as any openly religious person, and as hypocritically guilty of most of the things they accuse religion of. They're just as convinced that they understand the fundamental nature of the universe as any other religion is.

They even have their own form of religious discourse - tons of videos on YouTube or conversations on various forums where they talk about other people's belief systems and all the ways you can try and dunk on them and prove them wrong. Internet Atheism/Antitheism/Angstheism doesn't just fit most of the criteria of a religion, it's an evangelical religion.

Even beyond that, there are a LOT of people out there who have essentially replaced faith in a god with blind faith in SCIENCE - with the new priesthood just being men in white coats (or just anyone with "doctor" in front of their name). These are people who may not understand the universe they live in (or how the actual Scientific Method actually works), but firmly believe that science has all the answers (and if we don't know something now, we will eventually). Like medieval peasants putting their blind faith in priests to know THE TRUTH and tell them what to do, people today treat scientists the exact same way (even when they should take advantage of all the available opportunities to look into things themselves, and understand that science is more of an evolving subjective understanding rather than an Absolute Truth).

Most people are blind followers. Without organized and established religions they've just found other things to follow. Because thinking for yourself is hard.

If you die and you're wrong, then the likely scenario is that everybody else is wrong too and whatever you believed on Earth won't have an impact on the afterlife.

I remember that it basically killed the character contests for good. So, you know, win-win in that sense.

I'd disagree about Dormammu.

Strange didn't beat him in a fight. He lost to him over and over and over again. What he did was outsmart him. Which is sort of a different thing.

Same deal with surrendering to Thanos - you could argue that Strange "won" that fight because it led directly to the sequence of events that ultimately defeats Thanos, but realistically, he "lost the fight but won the war" in both cases.

If anything, part of the point of Strange (in the MCU) is supposed to be that he's not a fighter. He's a doctor and a scholar who uses his brain to think his way through conflict, and who tries to win in ways that don't just oil down to "hit the other guy until he stops". Which means he doesn't really win fights.

Though a lot of that depends on how you're defining "winning a fight".
