It's almost as if they should never have said it was okay to stop requiring masks in the first place.

Who could possibly have foreseen such an outcome?

Only a truly brilliant and somewhat sexy stud of a man could have predicted that a poorly-worded statement issued by people who seem to lack anything resembling a grasp of sociology was going to backfire spectacularly. If only such a glorious specimen of manhood had said something at the time (and not been ignored).

#1 and #4 immediately struck me as being wrong. After checking, #4 is objectively false and #1 depends entirely on how you define "civilization" (but by standard definitions, it would also be false).

You spelled #3 wrong (it's Clovis), and the overall point is in dispute - what you posted used to be the common assumption, but there's been a lot of evidence since that might contradict it.

(Combined with your #4, I'm wondering if you got all of these "facts" from an older source.)

#5 is arguably wrong, and is mostly related in a bit of old-time racism, because it distinguishes between which religions "count" as "surviving" (not to mention what you count as a "religion" and what you dismiss as "mythology" or "superstition"), and the trouble with dating origins of ideas in pre-literate societies, combined with how you define start-points for ideas that are synthesized from other ideas (as you yourself touch on). Some people have referred to Hinduism that way, but it's nothing resembling an actual consensus or official academic stance.

I kind of stopped there and just skimmed the rest. I do know I've read "complaints" that are generally contemporaneous with #9, but I'm not sure of the exact dating on those and it would be a hassle to dig out the work to double-check.

he doesn't need to say anything cause imo when a company like this is this sick all leadership needs to be purged starting with the ceo.

The more realistic scenario is that they deny everything, try to ride it out, plea bargain if it looks like they can't win, fire a bunch of scapegoats, then Kotick gets a raise. Then everyone forgets about it and buys the next Blizzard game because that's what gamers always do.

A lot of the silence/lack of official statement now is because they're gambling that the story stays niche and most of their customers neither know/care about it. They don't want their own denial to spread the story farther than it already has (because it absolutely would).

There's a very specific PR dance that comes into play when lawsuits happen to corporations, and it has literally nothing to do with the validity/lack thereof of accusations or the morality/lack thereof of the situation.

In this continuity, the queen knew too, and didn't tell her husband because reasons

That was true in the original as well.

Basically, Adam didn't tell her, but unlike everyone else in Eternia she's not an idiot. So she was able to figure out that her pretty buff blond-haired son with a bowl cut and chin made out of granite and his giant green tiger-thing pet who mysteriously seem to disappear every time He-Man (a muscle dude with a blond bowl cut and chin made out of granite) and his giant green war-tiger show up might be connected somehow.

She never actually admits to knowing, but she kind of hints like "Yeah, I'm not dumb, kid."

It might actually be a plot point that she's the only one on Eternia who isn't an idiot, because she's not from there (she's actually from Earth).

Which might explain why she never tells anyone else, including her husband. Maybe her attitude was "If you're so phenomenally stupid you can't figure it out for yourself, you don't really deserve to know. And would probably screw up keeping the secret if you did, because you dumb."

No idea in the new cartoon because I haven't watched and no interest in doing so (and even if I did, I don't have Netflix anyway).

But in the original, there's literally only three people who know (it's explicitly spelled out in the opening credits), and two of those knew before he even became He-Man because of an ancient prophecy. And the third was there at the time he first became He-Man. Adam didn't even tell his parents he was He-Man.

Teela's probably just pissy because she's adopted.

Looks like The Hobbit (Rankin-Bass) and Lord of the Rings (1978) are on YouTube if you're willing to pay (the Buy or Rent option).

You can buy all three as a DVD set on Amazon for around $60 (though obviously you might not want to commit to that if you don't know if you'd like them, or don't have a DVD player).

No clue if there's anywhere to watch them free online, but if there is, it likely wouldn't be legally.

Standard comic book logic for why super-heroes can't tell their loved ones is "because if you know, someone could torture you to find out".

During the mid-1980s I was sucked into a super computer and forced to battle in a digital coliseum until I was able to ally with a glitch and escape into the deeper circuits, where I eventually became a starship captain and helped the Resistance overthrow Computer Control. Fortunately, we were able to overload its processor and return back to the real world.

Turns out the computer I'd won in a local contest turned out to have been switched with a secret government project. Crazy, right?

Are they not selling toys tied in to this? That's like 90% of the revenue, who would sign that deal?

That's how things used to be, but that's become a somewhat dead marketing strategy over the last decade or so. Older kids today are much less likely to play with toys (in a world of video games and Internet videos), so a lot of the push for toy sales is for younger kids.

The demo that shows like MOTU (or Transformers, GI Joe, TMNT, etc) used to push for is much, much, much weaker than it used to be. Which is part of why Cartoon Network has had trouble, and why shows like Young Justice have gotten cancelled (an expectation of toy companies to underwrite costs, sales are dismal, toy company pulls out of the deal).

Shows like MOTU are half-marketed to adults/nerds at this point because nostalgia. The other half is hoping that kids will watch, but Netflix isn't overly concerned with ratings because they're just more interested in getting recognizable name content on the platform to spur subscriptions (part of why they tend to do series for 2-3 seasons and then cancel them regardless of whether or not they're good or bad).

(As a side note, this is part of the reason why dedicated toy stores are dying. Between collapsing sales and people switching to buying things online, the need for a Toys 'R' Us is lacking. People who still buy kids will settle for Wal-Mart or Amazon, and kids are generally disinterested as they get older).

Well, turns out the reason given in the show isn't actually the reason women in the real world want the toilet seat to be closed. The real reason is because when you flush with the lid up, your toilet flings tiny little particles of piss and shit all over the bathroom, and the only way to prevent that is to close the lid first and then flush, which therefore makes closing the toilet seat the man's responsibility.

The problem is the argument is never really over whether or not to leave the LID up. It's whether or not to leave the SEAT up. Or down.

It's why my answer to the gender-based argument has always been that no one should be fighting over it because both sides are wrong anyway, and the answer is you should be closing the lid (which puts the seat down by default).

It's mostly because cartoons were originally for adults.

Then, after they went through the ghetto of CHILDREN'S ENTERTAINMENT through the 60s-70s, a lot of that was mostly stripped away. By the time people started going "Hey, wait, we can make cartoons for adults, too!", it was mostly only the lower-brow humor that got its foot in the door. And kind of stayed there.

...but back on the subject of older cartoons making references to things later kids would never get, how long did it take most people to figure out that The Flintstones is basically just The Honeymooners? And how many will/did never figure it out?

There's a TON of stuff in old Looney Tunes (and Merrie Melodies) that kids today (or kids back in the 80s) never really realized was based on real stuff.

This might actually be the absolute peak of it, though:

Even as an adult in my 40s with a passing knowledge of old Hollywood, I can't tell who more than half those people are. And it's not because the impressions are bad (they're phenomenal), I just don't know the people being parodied.

I love Glenn Yarbrough's voice.

The only thing I can ever think of when hearing it now is this:

The best song in an LotR movie:

Damn it, you're stealing my gimmick.

Though honestly, my #1 song from the Rankin-Bass cartoons is probably this one:

I 100% prefer it to the version they used in the live-action movie. Though I'm willing to admit that might be nostalgia. But I mostly just like that it's more melodic and sort of wistful. The live-action one is closer to a dirge (which also fits), but in a way it's like the difference between something once lost but which may once again be found, versus something that's lost and gone forever.

Though my favorite song over all might be this one:

Mainly because I DO feel a ton of nostalgia for that one. That was basically my first introduction to LotR, and I absolutely loved it and watched the crap out of it as a kid. To the point where I can pretty much quote the entire movie from start to finish from memory even today.

Not really a fan of Hamilton at all.

...though to be fair, I'm not really a fan of most modern Broadway musicals in general. About the only musical theater I really like is Phantom, Les Mis, and Chess (basically, stuff centered pretty strongly on the 80s aesthetic). Maybe one or two others here and there, but for the most part I've always been left pretty cold by the most critically-acclaimed Broadway shows.

Not really.

No clothes might be nice just wandering around or swimming or tanning on the beach or just cooling off on a hot day, and I'm not really ashamed of showing off my body or anything... but I feel really uncomfortable sitting down on things while naked. And I've never been able to sleep naked (or even just topless). Shorts and a t-shirt is basically my default comfort level. It's a tactile issue more than anything.

On top of which, going out into the world, it's nice having clothes on to protect me from getting dirty, or brushing up against hot/cold metal, or getting scratched by minor things, or getting abrasions, or getting too much tan/sunburned, or any number of a hundred other things that clothes protect me from. Not to mention that on cooler days they become helpful just to keep me warm.
