Going back to one 24h 1v1 match per day would be boring as hell for a lot of matches though, plus we're still going to have rallies interfering with our pathetic votals anyway. Rallies are a necessary evil at this point, I'd rather we accept that and focus on making the rest of the contest as entertaining/interesting as possible rather than keep trying to find ways to prevent rallies at the cost of making the contest dull.

Plus it's not like rallies are all bad. Without them we wouldn't have had Mario/Cloud 1, 2004 Starcraft, Link/Draven, or Melee/Trigger, let alone more controversial stuff like Missingno/Crono and L-Block's run. Hell, you could argue Jay Solano only beat Link due to rallies.

I think Pound Sign is mainly focused around phone use, like when you call automated numbers that tell you to press 1, 2, Pound, etc. for options.

Also Switch userbase is still pretty small and Splatoon 2 is splitting the vote there.

Plus first possibly good Metroid game in forever and a remake to the last FF game to really need one, including the much-praised gameplay overhaul that's finally officially available to US audiences, and several series with small-yet-dedicated fanbases (on GameFAQs anyway as far as Destiny and modern Sonic are concerned)...it's not too shocking.

It's not out yet and somehow I doubt the Switch version will be that big a seller considering it's a last-gen game that's already been rereleased this gen on the major consoles, plus the Switch already has an open world game that dramatically improves on Skyrim's open world aspects, which was the game's big appeal in the first place.

e: Also there's some "Behind the Music"-esque special you should watch after the S4 finale since it has a major plot point that can be missed. Same with the Halloween special.

GameFAQs voters are pretty smart about voting criteria, so I don't think LoZ and FF1 would really represent their series.

Choosing which games qualify would get kinda messy anyway. Would Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario, and Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga all qualify? Would Goldeneye?

I'd be down with unofficial GotY mini-contests with no prizes. I mean we know what this year's winner is gonna be anyway but it'll make the non-BotW matches more interesting (and it's not like the usual GotY polls would be that exciting anyway).

Just do a 16-game GotY overall poll, two matches a day if you want to breeze through it. Do rough seeding without making actual seeds. Cut a few tertiary major releases in favor of some strong-looking indies. Randomize all seeds if you must, but I imagine you could get some good matches between indies and second-tier major releases.

Weak votals and contest gimmicks can enable some really weird shit, see Vivi > Mario.

I don't really think we can avoid rallies without getting contests like this. Rallies occur because there's something to root for, but that's also what makes these contests so fun in the first place. Take away that and we end up with this contest.

I'm not a big fan of rallies but at this point they're a necessary evil.

The most dominant champ thus far was Seph in the Villains contest, whose smallest % win was 58% in the final.

While we're waiting for this snoozefest to end, how different would a 2017 Villains Contest be? As far as Sephiroth has fallen he's still got to be the heavy favorite, right?
