I don't really think any of BotW's characters outside Link and Zelda resonated with many people. Honestly if I were to pick a strongest character beyond those two, I'd probably go Beedle since you'll see him a lot, and even that I'm far from confident in that.

Cappy intrigues me, but I'm kinda leading to near-fodder. He might surprise one way or the other.

Outside of rallies, I'd guess strongest new character would be from a franchise that's gained popularity on GameFAQs. Geralt is pretty intriguing, and I'd imagine 2B would be more popular than her game, plus Persona 5 characters will probably do damn well.

If you want to dive into rallies, I think Monika will be the next big target since DDLC is the latest hotness for obsessive indie fans and she's already developed a mini-cult of obsessives. Hell, she might be slightly above the fodder line as is considering DDLC did pretty well in GotY and our shit votals means more obscure characters will look better.

Switch-exclusive quirky Golf RPG similar to the Game Boy Mario Golf games. Been slowly going through it, gameplay's pretty solid and it's got a great sense of humor. Underrated gem, honestly.

Honestly it says more about how indies are gaining steam on this site if Cuphead can blow out the XB1 poll and DDLC of all games can put on a strong performance for PC.

Though also nice DOS2 is winning, that's a solid game that's kinda slipped under the radar this year due to an incredibly stacked release year of games.

GBA is your best bet, it punches the script up a bit and adds new stuff like the other GBA ports. The mobile/Steam releases are the same except with new (and mostly uglier as far as the characters/map tiles go) graphics and some QoL features like Auto Battle. SNES is fine, translation's a bit dry but it works. PS1 has a pretty terrible translation (though you might find Faris's pirate speak and the enemy names hilarious) and lengthy load times, so I wouldn't recommend it.

GBA version best version, it adds a bit of spark to a rather flat story by making the turtle an asshole to the protagonist.

Also best gameplay in the series and indirectly raises thousands of dollars a year for charity and all that.

Some people might acknowledge one game is better than another yet still prefer that second game, perhaps due to some weird quirks that most people hate but that person just happens to love.

Of course, there's no real way of knowing who'd vote like that and what games they'd vote that way for.

GameFAQs voters now are mostly people that grew up in the 16-bit and, probably to a lesser extent, 32-bit era. It'd explain Chrono Trigger doing much better these days, and Super Mario World crushing SMB3 by a larger margin.

I also don't think Yoshi's Island really affects SMW since it's radically different from the other Mario games and doesn't really have much in common with SMW other than the title and having Yoshi. Hell, it's not really a Mario game but a Yoshi game, in the same way Super Mario Land 3 is a Wario game.

FF9 has also had remakes for mobile, Steam, and PS4 in the past year or two, which helps its exposure a lot.

GameFAQs seemed to be the biggest source of FF8's fans also, since outside GameFAQs FF8's perception is rather mixed. I guess most of the people who stopped voting were the bigger FF8 fans, while those that remain are more FF9 fans, which has more appeal to the old-school FF fans due to the presentation and numerous callbacks to previous games. Mainly FF9 appealed to older fans while FF8 appealed to younger fans at the time, except those younger fans aren't around on GameFAQs anymore while the older fans are. Or something like that.

What would count as indie? Would Player Unknown Battlegrounds count? Because if so I'd imagine that'd clean house with its large player base (and thus rally potential). Otherwise I'd imagine Stardew Valley would go far, depending on its competition. Undertale is a wild card too, though I doubt it'd win this time.

At any rate, I'd be in favor of Best Indie Game as a smaller contest since it'd be unpredictable and might actually lead users to try some awesome games they wouldn't have otherwise.

The E3 reveal and the various controversies surrounding it pretty much killed the goodwill Microsoft got from the 360, and the PS4 has much better exclusives overall. The One doesn't really look like it has anything good exclusive-wise coming for it either, so it probably won't even recover from its slow start like the PS3 eventually did.

Plus most younger users probably won't use the home page or the forums anyway. They're more likely to use Youtube, reddit, Wikis, and just Google Search in general, plus if they do come across GameFAQs it's probably directly to the game's page anyway.
