Honestly how with how trash our vote totals have been, were better off. I cant get excited for stuff getting like 25k.

We just got above 10000 votes in yesterday's poll for the first time in 2023. That might be the only poll this year to get above 10000 votes unless we get an age poll which is known for getting high vote totals.

In the first poll, an FFVII-related game actually has a good board vote, completely untypical of FFVII historically. That board vote says less about FFVII, and more about how terrible of a board vote Elden Ring and God of War had. Kratos/God of War is well-known for having a bad board vote, and it seems like Elden Ring has a similarly terrible board vote too. In the second poll, God of War ends up winning the board vote in a battle of whose board vote sucks less.

Elden Ring fares best in the early morning hours and ASV, while God of War does best during the later morning hours.

The fact that we didn't have a 6-way poll really hurts because I think Xenoblade 3 would have done better than Crisis Core in yesterday's 3-way poll. Taking the top 2 games from the first 3 GotY polls for an 6-way GotY would have only included Xenoblade 3 as a game that has any sort of connection to Nintendo, so no real issue with LFF there.

Still very early, but Elden Ring is crushing this poll badly enough that it might be meaningless to run a 1v1 poll tomorrow. I'd expect the Crisis Core voters to favor Elden Ring over God of War in a 1v1 poll.

Since we skipped the overall GotY poll this year, I wouldn't be too surprised if Allen still decided to give us a 1v1 poll.

I'm inclined to agree: predicting the top two from each poll. Triangle Strategy earns the right to be crushed worse.

If Triangle Strategy gets into tomorrow's poll, then it makes sense to include Vampire Survivors due to how close both games were. That's making it hard to really predict the line-up for tomorrow's poll.

We'll see what happens soon.

Elden Ring stomped its poll so badly it doesn't make sense to have more than one game from Elden Ring's poll in the overall GotY. The top 3 games from the Remaster poll finished with a higher percentage than the 2nd place game in the New Franchises poll.

Going off what happened last year, I predict the following line-up of games for the first overall GotY poll:

Looking at the message board activity for the games in this poll, every single game here has more topics on their respective message boards than Kirby did. Maybe message board activity is weighted more heavily now than Metacritic and user rating scores in selecting games for these games. In the past, Metacritic scores seemed to factor more into what games were selected for the GotY polls, but Allen could have changed the criteria for selecting games.

Pokemon SV easily has the most active board out of all these games, with 198 pages of topics. Second place goes to Xenoblade Chronicles 3 with 106 pages of topics.

It is Mountain Dew for me.

Pokemon SV is only slightly behind Arceus in the battle of the Pokemon games. The "end of the year" factor could partially explain this result, as Arceus was a beginning of the year release and the main focus right now among Pokemon fans would be SV.

Kirby was also roughly equal to Legends Arceus in the mid-year GotY poll, so it wasn't going to be a dead weight game in this poll either.

I'm surprised Pokemon SV got into this poll with such a poor Metacritic score and user rating score over something like Kirby.

It's good to be back to the closest thing we still have to a contest season. Fingers crossed for the future, of course.

Elden Ring looks to wipe the floor with everything, but it'll be helpful to see it with tougher competition soon too to see where it may actually be at.

You know, as close as GotY-polls will get us for accuracy anyway.
