Mega Water S had me thinking the same thing. Well not "iconic" as much as I've heard this before.

I feel like part of it reminds me of Boss 2 from Lufia 2?

Well actually by far my worst team was as a junior (was basically all four people working completely independently but we got it done I guess?) but that one aside

To be fair it's not all willpower

Some people just get hungry easier I think

Like me I don't even get the signal for hunger until like 12-18 hours most of the time. I regularly eat one meal a day unless someone else encourages me to eat more.

On the flip side I can overeat easier than most people too-- it works both ways.

I suspect if you're regularly going 24+ without food you're one of those "blessed" people who aren't even getting hungry until a long period has passed.

Potential stocks to diversify along with Disney:

Kimberly Clark
Procter & Gamble
Campbell
Ford

These are all very non-volatile stocks.

More important than Volatility and lack thereof is your faith in the company. In fact if you can find companies that are more "volatile" that you believe in those will give you much better returns as the put premium is higher.

You need to find companies you KNOW will not go below price X for an extended period. As many of them as you can.

Being assigned the shares should be literally 0 stress to you. In fact you should be disappointed when the price goes up and want to roll your put closer. You shouldn't do this, but you should want to.

Yeah. While as a general rule I think diversification is overvalued with the sold put it actually helps a lot. Not just for protecting yourself against mega tank events like that but also from protecting yourself from being assigned shares. Disney going to $182 is unlikely but Disney and say 9 other safe stocks going to a lower value is that much more. So you're more likely to keep a lot more money open for selling puts if you spread out.

Imo it was way more risky. You're "buying the dip" on a stock that had gone +100% in the past year to get to that dip (it was +250% before then) and it's a super low volume stock at that. PTON is a growth stock that at least peaked a lot higher than what it's at. EVRI isn't much higher than it was pre-pandemic so you can argue it's at something resembling a fair value now

Like DISC.B dropping down to $30 was probably more likely than what did happen. And because of the way the stock volume is it could have absolutely gapped down a lot of that.

I just think if you think doing that was actually a good play you're going to lose a ton of money long term. That type of move is going to lose more often than win and as much as you think "it's not easier to make money when you have more money in play" if you didn't have 90k to muscle around you're not making nearly as much there.

Didn't like EO4 at all... But again, didn't make it to 50 hours. Probably 30ish. The game forces you to grind at an incredibly slow pace at various times because the level scaling of enemies is amazingly unbalanced. You can effortlessly 1-turn enemies in one area for piddly gains... And the enemies in the next area you're supposed to go can 1-turn you if they feel like it, even with the best equipment you can manage at the time, leaving you to try to slowly scrap away at enough encounters to actually get somewhere, since you'll need 2-3 turns to kill them. This happens constantly - Probably more often than in the first 3 games combined. They level locked so many skills that you have to stop spending skill points for a long time to wait until you get to the next threshold, which artificially slows the pace down even more. Eventually I just got tired of dealing with it.

Gemerally agree with your thoughts on these games in the post but I never had anything resembling this experience with EO4 and I suspect you just didn't get the mechanics very well, no offense.

There are just a lot of mechanics and stiff learning curve in there and a poorly composed team is going to have a ton of trouble

Anyway the point is a company entirely refocusing their gameplan while POSSIBLE isn't really something that you should consider a realistic risk of owning a stock and by and large the established company gives you some sense of ground floor value of the stock. It's not entirely "the whims of the public" deciding what non dividend paying stocks are worth. There is a well defined backbone there, and even just speculating on "what if the company starts paying out a dividend what would that dividend plausibly be" has some inherent worth because you can somewhat guess at that what the dividend is based on profit margins and stock price.

FB or GOOG (and I have at various points in the past), and suddenly the founders decide they don't care what the market thinks in the short run, they are embarking on a 60 year plan to reinvest all their earnings into colonizing Mars - well, if the stock tanks, I'm not going to complain or be filing a shareholder lawsuit. That is the risk of owning that stock.

I guess the difference to me is the potential risks of bitcoin tanking (government regulation, different crypto winning out, discovered flaw in algorithm, loss of public faith in crypto, etc) are far far more realistic than an established multi billion or trillion dollar company randomly deciding to colonize Mars.

Bitcoin has value in the same was the US dollar or any currency has value. It's all "artificial" in that it entirely depends on what those in an exchange are willing to assign to it. There's no reason to keep comparing it to a stock.

Strong disagree. Currency is actually closer to a stock but instead of a company you're investing in a country.

USD has the faith of the US government and US businesses honoring it that grounds its value. Hundreds of years of established backing that give you ballpark what 1 USD is worth.

Or if you wanna wear the tinfoil hat then you can even just put its birth as when we got off the gold standard. Still dwarfs bitcoin in terms of age and use.

But the point is you're not actually imagining anything with GOOG.

It's a product you use every day and it reports profit numbers and the like. The underlying company not currently paying a dividend doesn't mean what you have isn't backed by something with an inherent tangible value to it.

Well Crypto vs Google/Facebook is somewhat accurate. They're both somewhat speculative, but ultimately it's all about what you're speculating on.

So you have Crypto which is mostly grounded by an ideal of independent money/payment system. It could go up and down based on how much traction or perceived traction the system has.

Facebook and Google are grounded by actual companies (and could eventually pay dividends) which report numbers for their profits and have a tangible effect on day to day living for many people.

I would say it's disingenuous to compare Crypto to them outright because you've got a lot more grounding for the base value of the companies than you do for bitcoin. It's impossible for google to go to 10% value without google going out of business, and that's a hard thing to imagine. Crypto would be more like if I dunno a small company that doesn't do earnings calls and it's not 100% sure what they actually are going to achieve long term or their profit margin is going to be-- like if say AVCT had two types of stocks, the value of the non-voting one would be sorta like bitcoin.

Particularly for people like Vlado who will always view adopted kids as inferior to biological kids.

Adopting is (usually) a great thing to do but I don't think painting it with this kind of brush is helpful.

There are plenty of reasons to not want to adopt and it isn't necessarily about treating adopted kids as inferior. Trying to shame people into adopting is poor form.

But yeah I don't think adoption is a good thing to bring up right away in any case especially since stingers said he hasn't really thought about it much. But like I said this is something that he himself can think about for himself in the meantime rather than needling his partner about having a child.

I think what you need to do is just stop following the stock market as much, moreso than swapping over to index funds.

Keep an eye on news (not price) of your stocks to be sure what you've chosen are still winning moves, but that's the extent of the attention you probably should be paying right now if you don't have extra funds to be using to invest. Like great stock picks will outdo indexes by a lot. Heck just good ones will outdo indexes. If you believe in what you have then you'll win out.

If the temptation to make plays isn't there it's much easier to be okay with sitting on red stocks.

How you lose is by selling something red that you had no real reason to doubt and only went down a little because you think this other play can make up the loss and then some.

I'm 13k down in the past month and I feel fine. That's like 1/3 my portfolio value. I'm sure you're down much less. So don't worry about it.

Eh I mean it's funny to make fun of Vlado, and the way he's phrasing things is a bit blunt/crass, but it is actually different to adopt depending on why you want a kid.

Even if nurture is usually more important than nature and the adopted kid is 100% "your" kid, the idea of seeing how your genes combine with someone you love and having this kid that is the product 100% of your union is maybe romantic to some people and part of the selling point to having a kid as much as raising the kid. Myself included honestly. (not enough to really want one or anything but if I have say like 5% interest in having a kid my interest in adopting is like -30%)

But yeah echo the support her first mindset. Sort it out in your head over time but in a relationship you need to get your partner through stuff first. Don't rush a decision about kids-- she's probably not thinking right right now.

While she's getting through things you can sort out

  1. How important is it to you to have a kid. Can you be in a relationship with someone who can't or doesn't want to have one?
  2. Why do you want a child? Does adoption scratch that itch or not?
Now even if the answer is "very important" and "adoption isn't going to work for me" (and that's nothing to be ashmed of) you should still give her time-- she'll probably bring it up herself when she's ready since it was important to her too, and she knows it's important to you. No reason to be pushy, just say you'll be there for her and let her have the time she needs. Letting her have time to sort things out before crossing that bridge lets you really digest how important it is to you too. You've been in a relationship with someone 5 years, so if you need to know the answer RIGHT NOW it feels more like you're in a rush to find a fertile woman to spawn you a child. Another few months for both of you to absorb everything isn't going to hurt.

And honestly yes banning bitcoin ruins its value even if it's not a worldwide ban.

LTC is worth like 1/150 bitcoin not because it has an algorithm that is that much worse or anything it's mostly because bitcoin has the inside track on actually achieving its goal of being a universal country neutral currency. Each place it becomes more difficult to do that lowers the practicality of it as a currency.

FFT isn't very strategy heavy (though I'll put it above the lower tier FE games in that regard) but it's just fun to play through it in a variety of ways. Like there's a reason the community thinks of so many wacky challenges for it, it just has satisfying gameplay and it's kind of a shame it's so easy to break the game open when you have full control over all the resources available to you.

The contrast to FFTA , despite both games being kinda easy if you know what you're doing, is FFTA doesn't really reward you for breaking the system-- it's just mind numbingly easy no matter what path you take. The classes and such just don't matter much
