Yeah a lot of the most notable memes are highly problematic, same for dey gotta surfer. Like, the phrase dey gotta surfer is inherently hilarious on its own, but then you remember the circumstances around it and yikes, its really messed up.

On a lighter note, I think there absolutely needs to be a contest meme on here. I mentioned THE DAMN BRACKET, but another good, more recent one is consider it CALLED.

However, in the photo there was a young man sitting down on the righthand side of the frame, a Guy on the Right if you will, looking directly into the camera with a confused look on his face. Board 8 completely ignored the actual topic and just started memeing about Guy on the Right, creating elaborate lore and all that. One of those things that was kind of messed up when you think about it.

Well lets not forget, Obama did not inherit a period of prosperity, he inherited the biggest global recession of any of our lifetimes, and his policies, specifically his (relative) rejection of austerity, are what led to America recovering so quickly when much of the world didnt and still hasnt. Star Wars has higher highs and lower lows.
I'd currently be way more excited for a new Die Hard movie than a new Star Wars movie.
Star Wars is more unique and has a lot more excitement as a body of fiction-- lots of great action flicks out there, the world of Star Wars is very cool and unique and you can do so much with it.

Giving it to Star Wars largely on the third point but anyone who just cares about movies and not secondary media I would say should vote Die Hard.

Oh I think you can argue that Star Wars has more lows, but the last Die Hard film is easily worse than any major Star Wars entry.

FDR is pretty obvious. Eisenhower has interstate highways and NASA. JFK is massively overrated, but he got shot and Vietnam disqualifies LBJ so onto the Rushmore he goes. Obama absolutely rescued the US economy and if it had been austerity in response to 2008 America would be in the same boat as many parts of Europe, still not recovered from the recession. These are the four, all compromised in different ways but all with their accomplishments too.

I mean, I agree, but its also a solid argument for it being on the Rushmore. It was used so much to say no you dont understand, this is Final Fantasy to those early critiques from before release that it wasnt Final Fantasy enough. And I was like yes I get it.

Main Theme should absolutely be on here. The way it is used in the series is to indicate the common themes and symbolism of Final Fantasy. No, it wasnt very prominently featured in the PS1 games or X, but it us all over the place in XIV, the most popular game in the series, it opens the series in I, and it is also widely used in XVI, the most recent game. It is absolutely iconic, much more than even One Winged Angel.

You could basically make all of the arguments youre making against Metroid against Zelda before the Switch. The key difference being that Metroid just had its best selling game ever! I think for a Metroid game Prime 4 will be huge. It would also benefit a lot from being an early or launch Switch 2 game.

Anyway this is probably the right choice. They dont want another Wii U situation. Wait until the games are ready, the Switch 1 is still doing big numbers.

Ho-Oh is a box art legendary that got that very early appearance in the anime. Lugia is a box art legendary that got its own movie. Suicune got its own game.

Then it gets harder. Togepi, Pichu, Marill, Wobuffet, and any of the starters all have a case to be made for them as do Celebi, Entei (not Raikou lol) and Tyranitar. However I think Unown is the best choice here due to its unique nature, being the focus of a movie, and having a huge amount of the contemporary marketing focus on it.

Zens review of Epic Movie is incredible, but isnt Disaster Movie supposed to be even worse? Seems the main difference is that Epic Movie was somehow commercially successful while Disaster Movie wasnt so make of that what you will!

Okay some of these seem legitimately okay. However, others have some of the worst ADR Ive seen.

Wonder Woman 1984 is like, a fun campy bad movie and trying to be just that. Which is a weird choice given that the first one was an unironically good film, but hey. This just seems extremely cynically retooled and pushed out the door by the studio. It is a shame because theres done really talented people involved.

Also it turns out that not only is the researching spiders in the Amazon line not in the film, it was never even a line, they literally spliced it together for the trailer from different bits of dialogue across the film. Wow.

Plan 9 and Room are so bad they got entire movies made about how bad they were. Showgirls was so bad it killed an entire age rating in the US, and Cats is a modern bad movie classic. I still fondly remember when reviews came out for Cats, that was hilarious.

As for why they keep making these or keeping hiring people without the best track record of quality, there are four words that explain everything. On time, under budget.

How do you mean? The rumors with Starfield were that it won't be announced until after its first expansion in Fall.

They said there is no plan for Starfield and Indiana Jones, which of course doesnt mean no, but it does appear to be not soon if it does happen. Sounds like not much is actually confirmed beyond these four.

What is confirmed is that theyre working on new hardware.

Apparently its Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, Sea of Thieves, and Grounded according to The Verge. Overall I think its fair to say there has been a massive overreaction lmao.

Okay the Xbox ecosystem is (almost) definitely not going to be dead in a few years time, lets calm down here lol. Even if they stopped making consoles (which is unlikely in the immediate future) Xbox will live on via cloud gaming and PC.

Also, do Sony count download only titles in their software sales? Nintendo do not for instance.

Eventually yes but I think and hope we get Persona 2 first.

I really think the Blades of Chaos should be on here, not only has God of War gotten huge post-GoW 2018, in that game the blades themselves are used in a way where the weapon itself are iconic and carry a lot of symbolic weight when they appear. Very few weapons could do that.

Also, if the BFG, the Blades of Chaos, and at least one of the Nintendo options get on all three console manufacturers get something on there!

Would they? Sonys first party development costs are massive, and although its not to PS2 levels they are the dominant home console for third party games. Few people outside of enthusiast spaces bought a PS4 for first party games (I did!), most bought it for general gaming. Id say a large percentage of Playstation owners have never touched a first party game! So at a certain point if theyre gonna keep making these big games they may as well put them on everything eventually. Theyre already coming to PC.

Xbox has been the brand for all of Microsofts gaming stuff for a while now. And when they say mutliplatform, they mean to Playstation and Switch. The PC has been considered neutral ground for a while, when people say exclusive these days they mean console exclusive.

Theyll keep making Xbox consoles until theres no money in it any more, though services are clearly their bread and butter. In the last week I have spent more time interacting with the Xbox ecosystem than I have in my entire life combined and I still dont own a physical Xbox! I think that will stay as an option for some time to come but Xbox is a platform thats not just tied to a console now.

The question is does Sony follow suit?

I dunno those are 2 million+ sellers and definitely not as expensive as other comparable AAA RPGs. Excellent games but definitely not FFXVI-sized budgets.

Thats basically how I felt watching the trailer. Oh this is kind of neat wait never mind. Also that line is indeed cut.

Based on Nintendos comments on how much they needed to sell to break even it seems that Breath of the Wild had a total budget (seemingly including marketing and distribution) of around $100 million. Based on staff sizes the only two Nintendo games with higher budgets are likely Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Tears of the Kingdom. Nintendo also pays high salaries for a Japanese developer.

Its not open world thats the issue. Its the ultra-high fidelity cinematic single player games, of which very few are open world. Breath of the Wild cost less than half what these big Sony games cost. You can make open world games affordably they just dont look like Spider-Man 2. But also, Immortals of Aveum cost $125m. Those budgets need to come down.

I said it in the Xbox topic but these results do not look so hot for Playstation. The PS4 seems uncatchable by the PS5 now, on much smaller profit margins. Overall profits are significantly down which also means they cant do a substantial price drop like they did for the PS4. They missed their target by a lot and have a good chance of missing their new one. And this lack of big games combined with no price drop likely means things will slow from here. Expecting the PS6 to be a return to weaker, cheaper hardware which might be a good thing.

That headline quote is weird because from what Ive seen it sounds like this IS the worst Spider-Man spinoff! For all the memes Morbius was just a bad movie while this looks and sounds actively terrible.

Also this is the thing about this movie: its so cheap it cant really horrendously bomb. Even if it makes zero money it will lose less than what The Flash and The Marvels lost. And its not going to make zero money, there is still that built in audience that turns up for anything Marvel-related. This will probably post a small loss but not enough to dissuade Sony, if anything theyll just start making them for even cheaper.

Reviving this topic for a few different reasons:

First of all they will announce their plans in a video podcast on Thursday. Sounds like for now its just Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment with Sea of Thieves coming later. So frankly this whole thing seems to have been a bit blown out of proportion.

Also, we got the Playstation financial data for Q3 and its not great. Big holiday slowdown, PS4 widening the gap over PS5 with it looking very difficult to catch up, razor thin profit margins (profits down even though revenue is up), dropping their expectations by 4 million units, and they have no major franchise releases planned for the next fiscal year. Overall the most mindblowing tidbit I saw is that the Switch alone has made more in profit than the entirety of Playstations history. This really just shows why Microsoft is doing this and that the high end console model is no longer sustainable.

Lastly I tried the Xbox app on my TV and got Game Pass for the first time and its kind of amazing? With something like this I would never need to but an Xbox. Theyll keep making them as long as theyre profitable and a market exists but Xbox is absolutely a service not just a console brand now.

The thing that I think is underappreciated is that overall, Morbius did not lose money. It made $168 million on a $75 million budget. Thats profitable when ancilliaries are taken into account. Thats the thing, these movies are cheap, they cost about a third of what the typical MCU movie does, even if they dont post amazing returns losses are minimal. So in other words they will keep making these terrible movies lol.

Just opened the PC, deposited Kakuna (I think?) and left. Nothing like the unique terror opening the PC causes.

Theres an argument that Pikachu isnt even a Nintendo character!

Resident Evil got its own Mount Rushmore, it doesnt need a rep here. The thing about Rathalos is it literally appears in crossovers, theres a Smash boss fight and a FFXIV boss fight. Its iconic enough and these days Monster Hunter is probably their biggest series.

Les Mis is a great musical and probably my favourite of these, but I dont really associate it with Broadway as it premiered in Paris and had its longest run in the West End.

All of these seem very fake, but especially the first one because there is no way Nintendo will announce new hardware before the end of the fiscal year.

Also new Lets Go is fine if it means more time between main games and Legends.

The anime? Never. Im not sure if the manga quite gets to goat but read that instead.
