I'm on ep 71 rn, so still super early. I'm enjoying it, but it's not nearly as good as the hype would suggest. Not surprising, hype rarely matches reality, but I'm curious how much better it's going to get. Still plan to keep watching anyway, though.

I'd say the first major arc with universally positive reception goes from 92 to 130, so that's not too far off.

this arc is very very good but GOAT level starts around chapter 322 (episode 229) and aside from one arc in that time frame that's not quite as good, lasts all the way through like chapter 600ish (episode 500ish)

but to answer this point in particular, you're basically just at the tip of the iceberg. it's going to get much, much better.

then yeah 92-130
next good arc isnt till like 300ish?

and then it doesnt get good again unfortunately

The anime? Never. Im not sure if the manga quite gets to goat but read that instead.

Edit: Actually in all honestly the anime probably gets worse.

Manga reaches GOAT status in Water 7

Arlong Park arc is when it gets really good. Alabasta arc (episode 92 start) is when it gets great.

Water 7 saga (episode 229 start) is when it gets transcendent.

the arc from *checks* 153-195 is still one of my favourites so all the comments downplaying it as well as the surprisingly solid filler mini-arc afterwards is unfortunate

Water 7 was my favorite back when I kept up with it.

I think the goat guy appears in Usopp's introduction arc

So everything in East Blue is basically a long prologue. Thr larger more interconnected stories really start in the Grand Line.

genuinely, I feel like the entire series stays pretty consistent, if you think it's pretty rad at episode 71 you'll probably think it's pretty rad at 1180

There will be your favorite arc of course, but one piece doesn't have a crazy quality swing.

You sure about that? Most people consider there to be a massive quality drop after the timeskip.

When is the time skip, if it's not a huge spoiler? Just curious.

On Ep 98 now, this is solid. I've met two characters I hear people talk about constantly so that's nice.

Ill be vague and say 500s.

Mostly a pacing issue. Which isn't as bad if you aren't watching week to week.

It's a less-good arc and the anime is drawn out. But I wouldn't call it a "massive quality drop."

These two arcs are so completely incomparable I do not know why you would even make the comparison in the first place.

One is the finale to one part of the story, the other is the start of the second part of the story. They deal with completely different things and perspectives and you could almost argue they're barely the same anime!

Which would be a much better comparison.

One Piece, if you love One Piece, is so GOATed because it just keeps building and building. There are so, so many rewarding moments and then it just keeps giving. It will crush you, build you back up, and crush you again only to yet again build you back up.

There are amazing moments from things you have seen, that only get better upon reflection and called back to, and then things just keep going and getting more stacked.

I would say the anime has some pacing issues, and the manga chapter to chapter doesn't always land but its just the weight of the story that just overwhelms me with joy tbh.

I think joy is the best thing to describe what makes one piece so amazing tbh.
