This is the third gacha I've tried out after FEH and Sinoalice. Couple thoughts:

1. Sucks that these games seem to rarely have English VA. I get that not everyone has Nintendo money, but all the Fire Emblem character being voiced in English really helped me immerse myself in that game more.
2. Stamina. I detest stamina. It is absolutely the #1 thing preventing me from fully enjoying this genre of games. Bad luck when rolling is fine, whatever, who cares. I don't mind working with the resources I'm given. But being forced to wait to play more is absolutely awful. As someone who's actually enjoying Sinoalice a lot more than the average person, I've gotten to the point where stamina is becoming extremely restrictive and it's borderline ruining the game for me.

Those genre-specific complaints aside, the game seems pretty cool so far.

I hard disagree with your take but thats fine. how far are you? do you have bash yet? it gets better as you go.

Currently on the lost woods esque area. Bash can be a lot of fun although waiting for enemies' attack pellets to line up for the exact jump you need is less fun.

Oh, and the game let me buy the upgrade for air dash way before I can actually use it which is...weird.

And the few enemies I can avoid, I feel bad for doing so because of how leveling up works. If I don't fight I won't get triple jump.

And at one point the game let me go off the beaten path. I traveled far and found one of the future temples, only to be told 'lol come back later' and was made mto trek all the way back because it didn't give me a warp point.

Maybe I was expecting too much but this game had some hype from other people. I actually feel retroactively annoyed that it beat Dragon Age.

Playing it now and it feels like a ton of wasted potential. The platforming abilities I'm getting are really fun, and the art style is gorgeous, but the execution of...basically everything else sucks. Combat is not fun, there's a ton of unavoidable enemies, unnecessary hazard spikes are everywhere, and the graphics often sacrifice the ability to see hazards for extra foliage. For a game where its greatest strength is freeflowing platforming, many segments are slow and tedious. There are flashes of brilliance where I'm having a lot of fun but there's not as many of those as I'd like.

Off the top of my head, you have to choose who a lot of people marry, whether or not someone stays in their town for the rest of their life or sets out on their own, whether a nopon resigns themselves to being a pet or lives a life of homeless freedom, who succeeds a business, whether a chef devotes themselves to their work or their family, and whether a guard captain fulfills their dream or gets sent back to square one. And there's a lot more than that! I found Xenoblades sidequests to be significantly more interesting than the average game, including a lot if WRPGs which are often built around sidequests. I haven't played Witcher 3, but Witcher 2's sidequests were much worse than Xenoblade's.

Essentially I think if they cut out all the 'collect 10 bear asses' quests, even though you can ignore them in the first place, the game's sidequests would have a much better reputation by freeing completionists from their self-imposed curse. There's a lot of good little stories there.

The gold standard of side quests is the Witcher 3 because they attach a story to every sidequest and sometimes you have to make tough decisions as Geralt for how to proceed.

Xenoblade actually has you make more difficult life-defining choices for people in sidequests than any other JRPG I've played. It never gets as morally grey as Witcher 3, but it's not supposed to. The games aim for different tones. It sounds like your issue is less with the sidequests specifically and more than you just prefer the tone of Witcher 3 to Xenoblade.

Some of the sidequests in XB are fine because of the story attached (drug dealing Nopon, army lady in first town) but most of them are complete trash. Yes I realize you can just avoid the bad ones but one of the big problems is that there's often no way to tell which quests are going to suck or not! Some of the boring normal quests unlock additional skill trees for your characters randomly.

Every sidequest in Xenoblade completely unconnected from story content is marked by something like Collection Quest 1 or Challenge Quest 2. It's pretty easy to tell what's interesting and what's not.

Like...to use an analogy, when it comes to sidequests I imagine two types of people at a buffet. Both of them like some of the food at the buffet, but not all. The first person eats the food they like, ignores the food they don't (maybe trying one or two things they have mixed feelings on). They end their meal satisfied and content. The second person absolutely has to eat a full plate of every single type of food available at the buffet, and refuses to stop even when they feel bloated and sick. They finish their meal complaining that it was too much food, and about the food they thought tasted bad, even though they that ate food knowing they wouldn't like it.

Sidequest complaints for specific games generally confuse me because

1. Every sidequest in every game is either a fetch quest, a 'go here kill things' quest, or a shitty minigame
2. If you don't like them, skip them

There are very rare exceptions with games that try to shake things up (only ones I can think of are Majora's Mask and maybe Skies of Arcadia) but overall sidequests are inherently uninteresting, especially in JRPGs. They're there to pad game time. If you're enjoying the core gameplay loop, you might enjoy the side quests because they amount to 'more game'. Otherwise...don't do them and play the main story?

While this is true, let's not forget that there was a long period of time where Nintendo lost a lot of ground by being portrayed as the less-mature option. Nintendo was 'kiddy' and for babies. We don't give a shit NOW, but back then it actually mattered. Biggest examples I can remember are Mortal Kombat (which got super popular specifically because of being gory and edgey) being censored on the SNES and Wind Waker being Celda.

My biggest issue with what you're saying is that you keep using language like 'mistake'. You can downplay any action by saying it was a mistake.

Is groping someone while they're asleep after they specifically asked you not to a 'mistake'? Sure, I guess, but that language puts it on the same level as being caught stealing the last cookie from the cookie jar. I'd prefer calling it premeditated sexual assault, because that's exactly what it is.
