Plus, a lot of the typical blue-collar fields(manufacturing, mining, etc.) have shed jobs due to automation and off-shoring. You need a (ludicrously expensive) bachelor's degree to even get your foot in the door to most decent-paying jobs. Exactly this. Our grandparents could afford raising 4 children cause the basic pay back then was enough and everything was proportionately cheaper. I have a child and would actually like another one, but health insurance and medical expenses are reason enough to scare me out of it. Which is quite sad. Ive always been pretty socially awkward and anxious, although Ive managed relationships and Im currently married and have a son. The more Ive read about autism, it seems like a few of the milder symptoms are a fit with me. Could also be general issues that you can see in most people though. I did study psych of out of curiosity for human behavior and empathy though Ive been losing a bit of the latter thanks to an over exposition of social issues around the world once everybody started sharing news on FB. Theres only so much you can care about before you say to hell with all.
