A man in Allen is facing federal charges after being caught with a massive amount of child pornography.

The Collin County Sheriffs Office said 39-year-old Richard Beldens home on McDermott Drive in Allen was searched Tuesday.

Detectives seized several electronic devices with 58 terabytes of data related to child pornography. A single terabyte is equivalent to 1024 gigabytes or more than 500 hours of video.

Belden was arrested and charged with possession of child pornography.

The Collin County Sheriffs Office would like to thank the National Computer Forensic Institute and the United States Secret Service for the training and equipment they continually provide which makes these types of investigations possible, the sheriffs office said.

He is being held in the Collin County jail

As underground as it's been driven, someone who's stockpiled 29000 hours of of the stuff almost certainly has been part of a network or ring or "club" or something. This is just the start of a huge raid campaign, if so.

I read a study that showed that most people who got busted had obsessive American Psycho levels of the organizations of this stuff. There was probably literal gigs of spreadsheets and reports filled with names, ages, genders, etc.

Here's how they get caught.

1. They joke about it and the person they told the joke to laughs and later reports them.
2. They get a virus associated with those sites
3. Their IP address gets sniffed out
4. They're distributing and one of their customers gets caught
5. They commit some other crime and authorities look through the PC as a consequence

My mom once told me about a client of hers, who clicked on an ad while watching porn, and was unaware that the girls were underaged. I also heard that police can use trap websites like that to find and arrest viewers.

This is kind of a misleading thing to include in the story, as video file sizes can vary widely depending on a number of factors. An HD uncompressed video and a 320x240 windows media file of the exact same length do not take up anywhere close to the same amount of hdd space. So maybe he had 29,000 hours of footage, of maybe he had 58 hours of footage. Either way it's obviously bad, but it's also not good reporting.

I read that most of the shit being made now is from the kids themselves on cell phones and computers. So at least these kids are most likely not being abused.
