D3 is has generic gameplay but it's still fun Nier has a bunch of different gameplay styles...none of which are done incredibly well but you've got twin stick shooters, standard action game, even a resident evil homage section. Automata has much better gameplay. I'm personally not that impressed by it but it's better than anything else in the series. Story wise they tend to do better when you realize the relationship between all of the games. The Nier games have the best stand alone stories.
