yea, I only majored in it (philosophy) because I initially wanted to go to Law School.

I changed my mind about half way, but since I no longer had much direction, I stuck with the major.

Yes and No. I love some aspects of mechanical engineer (drafting, hands on practical work, management of projects, working with people on projects, managing with clients and travelling), but I DESPISE the other things (EARLY FUCKING MORNING, WHY DOES NO ONE FUCKING TELL YOU THIS BEFORE YOU SIGN ON FOR THIS FUCKING CAREER PATH??!? Also thermodynamics and stress, truss and bending are literally hitler).

I sometimes wish I went with my passion, Astrophysics and Theoretical Cosmology, but math is boring and I enjoy not working my ass off for little to no pay.

My degree was a waste of money, like most degrees are. The real education comes after you graduate.

And whoever is majoring in philosophy... it's never too late to change majors or quit and go to trade school. Why are you wasting time and money on that useless major?

I have a criminal justice degree. I only got it as a prerequisite for Law School because my occupational experience gave me all the elective hours I needed if I went that route. If it weren't for that I would have got a business degree instead.

I don't regret it at all because it saved me a shit ton work and money. However, I don't really think a criminal justice degree is particularly useful by itself.

Im sure I would have regretted it if I didn't change my major. I'm pretty happy with my current one.

Same boat, but law enforcement (at least in the major departments in Nebraska and some county sheriff departments) are starting to put more stock in a CJ degree for folks wanting to join the force without a military background. I dunno if that's a national trend, but all the captains and sheriffs I've spoken to have said as much.

I went for a tougher engineering (CSE) major then I had to when my school had a program that was more specific and relevant program to what I wanted to do with Web design. It would have saved me a lot of grief and let me focus more on getting a internship/job and acquiring career relevant skills rather than just trying to fucking graduate lol

my GPA would have been a lot better too cause math and physics are what tanked it lol and I also might have been able to go abroad

No and I'm a Communications major.

Having a degree of any kind has let me shoot up the ladder faster than my peers without one. It might as well be an easy to get piece of paper.

- A 32 year old mom who I was in three English classes with. She became the student senate leader and was one of my best friends at the school at that time. She now goes to Boston University.
- A 40+ year old "wife of a veteran" who was in Phi Theta Kappa with me. She's completely devoted to veterans and never seems to stop helping.
- A 60 or so year old mother of a girl I was good friends with in the previous semester. I took a class with this girl named Meghan.... speech class. She skipped out on her final speech due to stage freight and the instructor said he fails people who don't do their final speech. I stayed after class along with three nuns and another classmate who was awesome and the five of us with the instructor gave her a small audience so she could pass. In the summer, I took a nutrition lab and had her mother as my lab partner.
- A 25 year old who just went back and was in my government class last semester. After talking to her she said she overcame alcoholism and now she's a runner and wants to be an LPN.

In addition, I have a 27 year old friend who was so sheltered by her parents that she never got a job, learned to drive, or stand on her own two feet. She herself is looking into a GED program right now and almost has bartending school complete. One of the first things she'll ever achieve in life, as sad as it sounds.


These are some people who prove you can do this and be happy. I went back under my circumstances and I am absolutely proud of myself for it. All of the above women were proud of themselves too. I feel like more people who dumped high school are returning and going back to college now. Don't get to be 50 and regret it. If you go back now, you could have a doctorate before you are 42. Seriously. You could still be doing things you love and feeling good about yourself. You could make a network of friends to hang out with. Hell you can use the experience to get out of Indiana and try a campus elsewhere.


It's a massive opportunity Dready. Take it. Try. Apply for financial aid and see what happens.

Yes. Turns out they don't actually teach dick in the Finance major. I'm almost done and they're still assuming I don't know what financial statements are, in my senior level classes. I wanted to get into equity research/analysis, but it turns out companies want Physics majors for that, because it's the same math.

I just pray I can actually learn something useful on the job once I'm done.

I love my major. I'm getting my degree in Biology and getting my masters afterwards. Sometimes I regret not going into something more in demand, like engineering, especially as a woman. But I know I'll have a career anyway and I'll get to work outside, so it'll be awesome.

Yes because I should've majored in web programming because I enjoy that more and am all self taught for it. Now all I can use is examples of my work instead of having a degree as well.

It's a fun major that legitimately makes you a better thinker. That might sound like nonsense coming from other fields, but with philosophy it's definitely true. It's probably better to double major if you're going for philosophy, but some of us enjoy it so much that it's hard to resist the temptation.

I also didn't know what I wanted to do with my life when I was in college and didn't want to major in something I wasn't sure I'd like.

Philosophy is hobby, not a major. You can pick up a couple well-known philosophy books and read it and you can feel like a better thinker.

Unless you're using it as a bridge to get to something else, it's as useless as they come. You can always become a Philosophy teacher, I suppose.

I really don't like the way it is, that's all. I feel so out of place in this major, it's so annoying.

I'm 2 classes away from finishing it, so I guess it doesn't really matter.

Yes.

I got my Bachelor's in Psychology because I planned on using it for law school. I did end up going to law school, but I dropped out after the first year and found that my B.A. degree was useless.

Regret computer science? No way in hell. Sure I learned most things in my spare time, but the directed study was valuable and of course the resulting job and loads of money. Plus the degree didn't cost much (Canadian school) and I paid off my student loans within a year of graduating.

Everyone here seems to think that. You just have to be committed. I was depressed. I was anxious. I was lonely. School solved that. Now I am all ooooooooover the place and getting degrees. You seriously cannot beat that.

Sort of, yes. Got my major in plastics engineering, but should have done chemical engineering. I love engineering but being a chemical engineer would give me more job opportunities

Why'd you drop out of law school?

The main reason was that I hated the work. It wasn't anything like I expected. We had to read case law and write non-stop, but almost never had debates or mock trials.

The other was that it would have cost me $80,000 more to finish the last two years. I would have been stuck doing work I hated to pay it off and would have had to deal with too much competition.

I went to a tech school for 9 months to be a welder, no way in hell I was gonna do four more years of that shit. Plus the money isn't bad

I hope they allow her to do that as a former addict, I know some medical licensing and things are really strict when it comes to any past substance abuse because the nurses get access to all kinds of drugs.
