Coronavirus is the type of virus. SARS COV 2 is the name of the virus. COVID 19 is the name of the disease.

There no reason to say China virus or kung flu other than bigotry.

How is it bigoted to point out the virus originated from China? Its not as if there isnt near universal agreement from scientists that it originated there.

If you look at the contest archives under Gamefaqs Features, youll notice that contests used to be held much more frequently. This included the later years of CJayCs ownership, as well as the early years under CNET/CBS.

The character battles used to be an annual thing, and there were something like a dozen contests in the 2000s decade. But only 5 contests have been held in the 2010s, with 2 years between contests on average.

With corporate overlords controlling Gamefaqs, contests are about return on investment. The motivation for having contests in the first place was attracting new users thanks to offsite rallying & media attention, and I joined this site specifically as a result of Character Battle 1, held eighteen years ago. With more users & traffic, advertising revenue also increases, helping pay for prizes.

After Nintendo and Zelda series fans threw hissy fits in prior years when Draven and Undertale stole their respective contests, Allen was forced to change the rules to calm their butthurt, effectively putting an end to offsite rallies because their voting power has been halved.

With minimal new traffic coming to this site in every post-2015 contest, and Link/Zelda winning every single contest, the CBS corporate overlords have also reduced prize values & the frequency of future contests. Which is ultimately bad for the Board 8 community. If you want more contests in the future, you should embrace offsite rallies & more unpredictable results.

I see it the other way around. Typically the blowout 6x-3x% matches are Nintendo vs other, and because this site has such a massive obsession for Nintendo products, they rally behind the brand.

But BOTW vs Smash is Nintendo vs Nintendo, and Smash attracts casual players who are into (relatively) accessible party games. Some people played BOTW for 100 hours; Smash pros have played it 10,000 hours or more. Wasnt Majoras Mask vs some smash iteration nearly 50-50 a few years ago?

Whats with the popularity of Persona 4 Golden. Its not even an original game. Why are remakes/ports/expanded editions allowed in this contest again?

And lol smash beating SMO by an even bigger margin than expected. As I said in an earlier stats topic, this site has a fetish for multiplayer party games. Im confident MK 8D would have won a hypothetical matchup against smg1, smg2 or SMO.

The previous discussion had nothing to do with what the outcome of Witcher/Skyrim would look like, if the match takes place. (I would guess Witcher wins it, but I also wouldnt be surprised if Skyrim won.)

It had to do with people writing off Skyrim as a 3rd-rate game that wouldnt even pass Round 3 , instead losing to Nintendo annual rehashes like MK8 (which its not) and Heart Gold, etc.

I dont think its performance is that weak. This board just has a hate boner against it for some odd reason, and voted heavily against it in the first hour. Its recovered during the time frame when nintendos target age group is mostly asleep.

does anyone know how the second chance contest is going to work?

there are only 15 matches left, and some 32,000 possible outcomes. there are going to be multiple perfects for sure, so it'll all come down to the tiebreaker?

even in the last contest with the crazy losers bracket, the winner ended up missing only like 3 of the last 40 matches, which is insane.

uncharted 4 is probably the weakest uncharted game. FFXIV is an MMO. MK barely got 60 on them. Games like Galaxy and Odyssey would destroy it

odyssey more so.

don't get me wrong. smg2 was probably the last nintendo game i really enjoyed before giving up on nintendo in favor of sony/pc/mobile in the current gen. but fans criticized it for being linear & too derivative of smg1.

smg1 is likely more popular than smg2 because it at least took the series in a new direction. and this was how it did in similar contests:

in 2010 gotd smg1 beat annual pokerehash ruby/sapphire/emerald by a 59-41 margin, then lost to zelda:tp, a game that received decent critical acclaim upon release but isn't particularly popular among the fanbase due to being too derivative & having too much padding. (edit: thanks tre for correcting me on smg1-rse margin.)

in 2009 smg1 lost to cod4. yes, cod4.

mk8 beat uncharted 4 60-40, winner of 200+ goty awards. it has a shiny nintendo logo on it.

smg 1 & 2 have never performed well in these contests. they were critically acclaimed upon release but seem not to have lasting appeal on this site. smb3/w/64 beat them by huge margins.
