The only one of those that might breach the top ten is Mega Man X, which looked not THAT much stronger than pre-leak TLoU. And MMX is the seventh strongest SNES game no? And Oracle of Ages? Come on.

Also 2019 RE2>1998 RE2, and that game still lost to possibly the weakest division winner.

Mega Man X got almost 45% on FFX.

thats smash. An iterative franchise that people lose interest after each release. Not a respected beloved Jrpg.

Witcher is gonna SFF Skyrim into a pile of dust and make Persona look like one of the strongest games ever in the stats

I think that's right. I'd also argue that there hasn't been one giant, game-changing event that caused Xenoblade to gain popularity, but multiple smaller, but significant ones. Xenoblade 2 was the first Xenoblade game to really take advantage of this (Xenoblade 1 got screwed over by many factors, and Xenoblade X got Wii U'd), selling almost 2 million and probably getting a lot of new people into the series, or at least interested in it, which the Xenoblade 1 remake should benefit greatly from.

I was meaning that there were two games named Resident Evil 2 and we know which one is in this contest. No offense taken towards feelings on any of those games and I get your point overall, but I wouldn't call the RE2 in this contest and adding Super Mario Kart into this contest as the same thing toward your point.

Hype leads to a permanent strength when the hype is delivered upon. It's mostly when the hype fails to live up to expectations that the strength boost becomes a temporary, artificial one. Xenoblade HD looks fantastic so far so I'm confident it brings in at least some new fans.

Leon will like the game but I doubt it lives up to the unrealistic expectations Board 8 has built up for him. That's okay though, one more sale for Monolith Soft baybeeee

4-6. Enough for the rest of the top ten to slot in that 5%. Honestly all this talk is just highlighting that the upper reaches here are actually pretty good haha.

Also Xenoblade is not the only Nintendo game confirmed for the rest of the year.

There was also Lightning who put up her best numbers before people got to play her game. I want to believe Xenoblade will live up to the hype and people like the game to still support it after they can finally play it.

However my biggest surprise is that people might put Dark Souls to win over Skyrim, i know Bethesda is Shit right now but Skyrim was still an amazing game, really surprised really.

Innocent games do get penalized for their companies going bad all the time, hell, I suspect that has been the main reason for Final Fantasy 7 getting so much weaker over the years, because the game itself holds up damn well once you get past the graphics.

I wish there was a way to put annotations for when the 2020 stats go up on Ngamer's site. People in Games Contest 2025 will be asking why the xtstats seem unreliable (more than usual) and I'll be like, there's a reason for that.

I mean, it's by all accounts a very faithful remake/remaster of the first game, with much better visuals, a remastered soundtrack (with the original soundtrack also being available if you prefer that) and a bunch of nice quality of life changes, so I don't really see how it could receive a Brawl-like backlash unless the Epilogue they're also adding pulls a TLOU2.

Yeah, if it can't blow out Persona 5, it probably can't trade truly blows with Breath of the Wild. Then again, it's too early to conclude anything yet, Witcher 3 could keep extending its lead more and more throughout the upcoming 22 hours, especially if Persona fans get demoralized and stop rallying.

I think Symphonia would still be decent because it's got nostalgia behind it now and it's basically considered Nintendo.

Zelda Witcher was always a 60-40 match at best for Witcher.

i think Witcher Skyrim (if Skyrim wins..seems like its a coinflip right now) would also be close to 60-40 for Witcher. but that one's because of SFF.

I'm going to need to long to to workout what I think of all these results. Western SFF sounds absurd when it reaches as far as games like God of War. But if Witcher 3 looks like a god against every Western game and is mortal against every Japanese game, what else am I supposed to think?

the new god of war appeals basically to the exact same group of gamers that loved witcher 3. story driven, semi open world full of sidequests, getting gear and abilities as you play to upgrade your character, hell, even down to the main plot hook relying on a bond between the main character and a protegee of sorts (Ciri / Atreus)

i said this before but this result pretty much confirms it. (unless you just think Persona 5 is a monster and would also curbstomp GoW)

For niche action games? Maybe. But Skyrim has far more influence on the mainstream AAA space with every game becoming big open world and trying to emulate Skyrim. Even Breath of the Wild said Skyrim was a huge influence.

Dark Souls is used as a point of reference so often that it literally became a meme to see things being compared to it in reviews.

"this is like dark souls" "that game is the dark souls of xxxx" "it feels like dark souls".

Skyrim had that going for a while ("skyrim with guns" etc) but it died down fairly quickly. DS is still maybe the single game used most often by mainstream gaming media to describe other games.
