But that's not enough for Democrats, who snuck in amnesty for Dreamer parents in the form of 3-year renewable work permits in the "bipartisan" Graham & Durbin deal, which Trump wisely rejected. Why 3 years? I'm guessing Dems are confident about taking back government control in 2020. All DACA beneficiaries are older than 18, with the oldest in their mid-30s. Dreamers' parents are the ones who caused this "crisis" to begin with, and any form of amnesty they receive will lead to more waves of illegal immigration in the future. CNN polls show that a majority of Americans do not think DACA negotiations are worth shutting down the government. Then guess what the Democrats did? They proposed to grant amnesty to DACA parents - the exact people who caused this problem - in the form of 3-year work permits. Why 3 years? I'm guessing they're confident Trump will not be reelected, and a Dem president/congress can grant them a "pathway to citizenship" in 2021. They have donors to please. But it's a losing battle and a waste of time, because the next Democratic administration will simply vote to raise them again, and the Republican admin after that will lower, etc. it's a never ending tug of war. Tax receipts as a percentage of gross national product has been fairly constant over the past century. Yet half the time Congress is in session, they're debating taxes, while wasting valuable time, energy & political capital. If Republicans instead started with the border wall or anything else tangible, it cannot be undone easily by the next Democratic administration. Even if Dems are highly against the idea of a wall, if one gets built, they're not likely to just tear it down .
