But it's an empowering, "I was born bad." Society's at fault for not respecting her divine magnificence and superior attitude. The dogs are at fault for growling at her. What works for Harley Quinn doesn't work for a character whose only motivation is to kill animals in the name of fashion. |

And even if he wasn't, he still orchestrated an attack on the capitol with the intent of stealing an election he knew he'd lost. Nobody should be going to bat for this guy. I'm not given to hyperbolic allusions which turn everyone I dislike into Hitler or Stalin. I hate that side of politics. But the truth of the matter is that Trump is empowering those who believe in Nazi ideology and that he's shown he's willing to give democracy the middle finger so long as he wins. Either side of the political equation should be above that. |

Once you condition people to dislike practical effects, that makes it impossible for low budget movies to hold their own. |

So did a lot of the effects in the Star Wars prequels. It's kind of embarrassing how long it took animators to realize CGI characters needed shadows that were consistent with the other characters. I mean, Who Framed Roger Rabbit? took note to make sure the 2D animated rabbit had the same shadow effects as the humans surrounding him and that was the 1980s. |

That said, I will concede that digital effects have come a long, long way in the past 15 years. They look less and less like video game characters every year. A general rule is that practical is better for texture and appearance, digital is better for motion. |

The malware stuff is a bit suspect, but I don't blame them for using it to catch people who exploit children. Even the name of that website, "Playpen," is gag-inducing. It's alarming to think that there were 150,000 people on that site. It's a shame that the person who put an end to that mess is no longer with us. Child predators are the worst of the worst. |

If a fictional female character kills a child with an axe, she was exhibiting her power as a strong free-spirited individual and society can piss off for thinking she's wrong for having done it. I have nothing against strong female characters. I'm in favor of more and better female representation. But dammit to Hell, sometimes a woman simply has to be the villain and not have some underlining tragic past which makes it okay for her to do the evil that she does. |

You can't buy realistic Beatles action figures, but you can buy toys based off of the Yellow Submarine animated movie. |

I think Paul McCartney and John Lennon's solo stuff was often more enjoyable than their Beatles stuff. The only Beatles song I truly like is Strawberry Fields Forever. I get that it's a different era and a different style of music from what I'm into. I make no pretense that my preferences are better or worse. I always use the Beatles as an example of changing trends. There will likely never again be a band with that much combined talent. And no record label in the world is worried about that because bands don't write Beatles songs anymore. Just like no one in Hollywood is competing with films like Casablanca or Citizen Kane. One of the reasons we have changing trends is because it's easier and more profitable to be different and set a new trend than it is to try and best whoever is on top of current trends. |

| FortuneCookie 02/16/21 12:18:25 PM #1 |  It's so uniquely Mario. The flying power-up in Super Mario World was likely changed to a cape solely to make the game different from Super Mario World. Since then, Mario has had wings on his cap, bunny ears on his cap, a cat costume, a cap with eyeballs, and so forth. It might've been better in the long run. I feel like Raccoon Mario would've been difficult to pull off in Super Mario 64 with the early limitations of polygon-based graphics. And the fact that they keep changing the power-ups means that they can keep changing them instead of returning to older ones. (Though consequently, once they return to an older power-up, it pretty much shits all over the power-ups they opted not to bring back.) Even so, I still can't help but wonder how it might've been different had they stuck with it. Who knows? Maybe the inability to render 3D raccoon eras on a cartridge game would've convinced the higher-ups at Nintendo that they really needed to go to CD based software like everyone else did. |

It's that there likely would've been more lenient restrictions had the lead been Japanese. You're reading way too much into that statement and in the wrong direction. There's plenty of Japanese media which presents Chinese characters in a positive light. |
