Their influence arguably spread beyond music, too - there's a lot of proto Monty Python-style humor on display in 'Help' and 'Yellow Submarine,' and I don't think it's any coincidence that Paul and George were big fans of MP when they were just starting out. I think Paul McCartney and John Lennon's solo stuff was often more enjoyable than their Beatles stuff. The only Beatles song I truly like is Strawberry Fields Forever. I get that it's a different era and a different style of music from what I'm into. I make no pretense that my preferences are better or worse. I always use the Beatles as an example of changing trends. There will likely never again be a band with that much combined talent. And no record label in the world is worried about that because bands don't write Beatles songs anymore. Just like no one in Hollywood is competing with films like Casablanca or Citizen Kane.
