the US has a very large population and more than enough voluntary enlistees to render a draft not needed at the moment, what in the world would be the point?

Practically speaking, in my ideal implementation, a sort of nationalized job training program that the state gets something out of too. Service members can learn valuable job skills in various fields. IT, aviation mechanics, nuclear engineering, cybersecurity, policing, electrical engineering, foreign language translation, paralegal work, etc.

I have to wonder how many who want this been in the military themselves and I also wonder if they somehow miss the age requirements as well. I usually see non veterans and/or older folks call for this sort of thing cause they know they won't be the ones forced into service, which is a horrible and fascist idea in the first place.

I'm in the Navy now and I like the idea of mandatory service for a few years after highschool. I think it can ingrain good habits and standards. It can also provide a good foundation on job skills for the private sector, depending on your rate.

As a reminder refusal to follow orders in a countries military is grounds for treason which carries the sentence of death, life in military prison and other unpleasant shit, so would a non politically connected or wealthy solider get away with refusing orders like that? Absolutely not, therefore the order is basically kill these people or we kill you/ruin your life so badly you wish you were dead which means self preservation kicks in and it's either you or them and most likely you have things to live for so you'd choose you. Then comes the justifications "They hate us anyway", "They probably deserved it", "I had no choice" and as you pointed out "just following orders"

No. Refusing to follow an order isn't grounds for treason. It's a violation of the UCMJ, but that only protects lawful orders. An order to murder unarmed civilians would be an unlawful order and you aren't obliged to follow unlawful orders. That said, CYA.

They'd probably do it by quota reseting at the fiscal year, and I imagine the Air Force would fill the fudge up fast.

To be honest the military doesn't really have the capacity to recruit and train *every* single person who turns 18. It would be a huge financial strain and would negatively impact readiness.

Not without more funding. Hell, the Navy seems to be having trouble funding some of its beneficial programs as it is. Meaning things like TA.

Most military positions don't involve direct combat, but I don't think you could guarantee they never see any kind of combat. It would also vary by which branch they join.

Speaking of which, I wonder how a mandatory service program would work. Would people select which branch they want to serve in or would they be assigned by lottery/need?

Ok. Tl;dw. Someone started questioning where a professor got the numbers for several big studies. The studies cited a massive survey with a high response rate. They started questioning the professor on that survey data, but he kept dodging the question.

Eventually they filed a formal complaint with the university, but the university squashed it by making sure it never got past the inquiry phase. Broke their own rules regarding unbiased panels by staffing the majority of the panel with the fraudster doctor's co-authors.

Talks about universities in general covering up for bad studies to avoid bad publicity and because big studies make them look good and get them a lot of money.

Edit: Oh. And the cited study supposedly came from an institute that had been defunct for several years. Basically, they seem to have invented a study to make up numbers for their studies.

That's being disingenuous and too generous to him. We aren't talking about being worried about interacting with a transperson, we are talking about whether or not they should let you know before you date them. And he said that, if you think they should, then you're basically saying you would want to kill them.

He isn't saying it's weird, he explicitly said it's the same mindset as someone who would kill them.

And things can be bad comparisons, like that one is. Idk why you're trying to claim it's intellectually dishonest to call it out. I followed up on their comparison, I just don't think they represent close enough situations to try to draw conclusions from them.

Anyone who needs to know upon first encountering someone whether or not they are transgender has the same mindset as the people who go into a "trans panic" and kill people.

You know what I would do if I went on a few dates with someone and then they revealed they were transgender? I would say that we weren't sexually compatible and end things. I wouldn't question my sexuality or worry about how close I had come to encountering a penis.

If that information is revealed before having sex, which is the time most people are suggesting it should be revealed by, what exactly is the harm that has transpired? That you've wasted some hours going on dates with someone?

There you go. You don't have to say you'd kill a transperson. You just have to no want to date one and that's the same as being okay with killing them. Truly the most exceptional of takes.

I don't think I've seen bootlicker used as an anti-trans insult, but I'm not going to pretend that everybody makes sense either lol.

something about being indignant makes many people think being infantile is acceptable though.

It's not an anti-trans insult, it's an insult thrown at people who activists want to accuse of sucking up to the people that oppress and abuse them. A communist might use it against a blue collar worker who defends corporate policies and a trans-activist might use it against transwomen who defend JK Rowling.

it's like you can be just as crazy as you want to be as long as you agree with them.

it's easy to spot the frauds and disingenuous. their energy changes when the narrative is challenged.

It's a thing that happens where some trans-activist-minded people resort to "you just want to abuse/kill them". Or, if the the person arguing against them is trans, to harass and abuse them with insults like "bootlicker" and telling them that the people they associate secretly want to kill them.
