What would happen if someone just threw the stones hard AF? Is that frowned upon?

That's actually a valid strategy if the area around the button is a mess and you have a strategic need to clear the area.

If aimed well, a strong shot can take out 3 or 4 stones at once, though it usually gets knocked out of the house as well.

No. You 'clean' the ground to melt the ice in front of the stone to lessen friction and reduce the rate the stone is slowing down, preserving the stone's speed.

There's nothing you can do to slow/stop the stone once it's going, besides letting it slow down on its own.

No and we wouldn't be friends anymore.

That's not what Jesus would do.

Jesus would get all preachy and tell his friend that that's not the right thing to do, and continue to convince him to not do this. The friend would get all offended because Jesus is now butting into his personal business and telling him about how he should deal with his love life.

As a result, they wouldn't be friends anymore, but the impetus of this result wouldn't be on Jesus. Or it could be, depending on how you see it.

There was this occasion where I had to put my foot down when a casual conversation turned to politics and the air started turning volatile. Good thing I could play the (comparatively) senior card at the moment, being the second-oldest of the group(was 29 at the time, rest was mostly at the 21-23 years old range, the 31-year-old was snoozing in the corner) and demand a change of subject.

They later thanked me, said it was a stupid, pointless topic to get mad over and that it was a good thing I stopped them before it got all heated and stuff.

She was generally the odd (wo)man out of the group. The other five's lives touched on each others', and they interacted with and influenced them.

Phoebe was just... there. She was a character who'd provide short laugh bites a plethora of times, but in the end, was just someone whose sphere didn't interact that much with the other five and pretty much did her own thing most of the time. Resulted in a character who one would think was absolutely hilarious when one was young, but when looking back years later, turns out to be surprisingly shallow, uninteresting, and unmemorable.

She probably could have been written out of the show and there wouldn't be any huge problems in the overarching plot, whereas all the other five would have opened up giant gaping plotholes or story changes if you just got rid of their roles.

The one ring was created by Sauron to enhance his powers. Sauron above all else had the power to dominate the wills everyone in middle earth.

The lesser rings were created to help bend people to his will even more. Look at the one ring as a buff to Sauron psychic stat and the lesser rings are psychic debuff.

The elves found out about this and took the rings off. The dwarves didnt care about anything but gold and jewels so they couldnt be controlled. We know what happened to the men who were given rings.

Even Sauron didnt know that he was the only one that could wield it. Which is why Ford/Sam were able to succeed. Sauron was sure that everyone would use the ring not destroy it.

Is it ever mentioned what happened to the Elves' rings? Were they destroyed or are they still out there?

The Elves' rings were never influenced by Sauron. Elrond, Galadriel, and Gandalf were in possession of them throughout LOTR.

Half right. The rings worn by them werent created by Sauron. They were created by a elf named Celebrimbor in secret.

Basically magic, in the Tolkien universe, is a function of time. As time passes, the power of the elves diminishes. Celebrimbor created rings of power to slow this process. Which is why Elrond and Galadriel each had one. Gandalfs I THINK belonged to Gil Galad. The elven king from then last alliance of elves and men.

The 16-17 lesser rings created by Sauron were either destroyed or they were reclaimed by Sauron. Forget which. They were useless without the one though.

Gandalf's ring was originally the ring of Cirdan the Shipwright, who gave it to him when he first came to Middle-Earth. Gil-galad's ring passed to Elrond when he died.

Does the ring make anyone invisible or just Frodo? It didn't seem to make Sauron invisible.

It makes every mortal who wears it invisible.

It made Bilbo invisible, for one thing. He used the Ring that way a ton of times in the Hobbit, and his final use of it is how the Ring is first introduced to the reader in LotR.

It also made Gollum invisible, which is why he was able to subsist so long in the mountains slaying Orcs and eating their flesh, or catching fish with his bare hands.

It made Sam invisible as well when he was on his mission to rescue Frodo from the guardtower of Cirith Ungol.

Finally, lore-wise, it made Isildur invisible during his attempt to escape the Orc attack at the Gladden Fields, but the Ring slipped off from his finger on its own volition, revealing him and letting him get shot to death by Orc snipers.

Not sure why it doesn't work on Sauron himself, but I guess that's just because it's his Ring and thus he can limit its effect on him in certain regards if he so chooses.

As a South Korean whose father was a professor in neurobiology for decades, this is hilarious. He's half-dumbfounded and half-furious that something like this could happen.

What kind of dumbasses thought this would be accepted? How could they think this would work? A middle school or high school student authoring a scientific paper? Co-authoring with a parent no less? Seriously? Kids have no place in a paper except a passing mention in the acknowledgements section.

Fire those researchers' asses and put a black mark on each of their names so their careers are finished. People with that kind of stupidity don't deserve to work in science anyway.

I like the system in Cthulhu Saves The World, where every area/dungeon has a limited number of random encounters and once you exhaust them, the place becomes squeaky clean with no enemies apart from any yet-unbeaten bosses. If you still want to grind, you can 'look around for a fight' to trigger an encounter at your whim.

Sure, it doesn't work in the overworld because the limit there is a ridiculously high number, but in this case enemies scale to your level to keep things interesting, and the encounter rate is comparatively lower than dungeons.

I don't see how this is different from the 'outright ban all guns NOW' idea that's thrown around nowadays, which, while it worked for the world, wouldn't work for America since guns are already widespread.

There's no way this can be properly enforced, what with the tons of guns already in circulation and hidden away somewhere. Antique guns, smuggled guns and jury-rigged guns will still cause problems and they won't be decreasing, at least not in appreciable levels.

If Anakin got rejected like that, his soul would be crushed. And Obi-wan is too much of a goody-goody to go against the Council and train him regardless. A dejected, disappointed, possibly angry Anakin would be the perfect kind of apprentice a Sith Lord would swoop in and take under his tutelage. Sidious would possibly intervene before Anakin was even sent back to Tatooine, simulating mock outrage that a boy is about to be sent back to slavery and that as Supreme Chancellor he could not possibly allow that.

After that it gets iffy. Possibly Anakin would be hidden in plain sight like Palpatine was, maybe as his errand boy, growing up to become one of the Chancellor's most trusted political aides. He'd be trained well in hiding his Dark side of the Force from the outside, so the Jedi would still think nothing of him, merely believing his continued presence on Coruscant as an act of charity from Palps. Since his identity is hidden, the subplot of Anakin approaching Padme with romance in mind could proceed as well 10 years later. Padme might possibly have doubts about Anakin since he's been influenced by the Sith for a long time by then, but she never really suspected Palpatine as more than an ambitious, power-hungry politician to the end, it's likely she won't see more from Dark!Anakin either. Possibly Palpatine would pick up Dooku as a placeholder apprentice since he might be required to spark off the Clone Wars, but only as a placeholder, nothing more. Though he'd live longer since he won't have a fatal confrontation against Anakin until the latter was fully trained and prepared, whereupon Dooku would probably be easily cut down from an unexpected attack.

The elimination of the Jedi is a more tricky issue. Without Jedi!Anakin to reveal Palpatine's identity to Windu, it's doubtful that the Jedi would attempt a pre-emptive strike first on their side, which means Palpatine would have no valid pretext to execute Order 66 in the first place. Most likely Palpatine would have tried to stretch the Clone Wars on as long as possible to thin the ranks of the Jedi, which were already quite depleted at the start of the PT in the first place(only a mere ten thousand in the entire galaxy, IIRC). Which would mean the eventual extinction of the Jedi and the formation of the Galactic Empire would take much, much longer than the sudden denouement that occurred canon-wise in RotS.

Extrapolating further from this point into the OT and beyond is difficult since there's now possibly many years of difference with canon lore, plus there are many possibilities as to how the Anakin-Padme subplot might proceed. There would possibly be a Rebellion, sure. But with the possibility of having no Luke nor Leia to aid them(and consequently no Han/Chewie either, likely), the first Death Star might just blast them to bits in the new ANH. The End.

That's one old ass Harry Potter

On the other hand, we'd have a Frodo who's actually 50+ years old in the lore but looks and sounds pre-pubescent, right up to the trials in Mordor.

Yeah, imagining the switch might get weird. And stretching it.
