What are you all knocking the first game for? If Darksiders did everything just like Zelda then you'd be bashing it for being a clone.

Ugh, that game. Never beat it on the NES but did complete it years ago through emulation (before I fixed the 72 pin connector on my NES). One thing always bugged me about that, how it could be so linear for the first half and then expect you to go ALL the way back to the beginning to find world 4 I think it was. Who would even think of that?

Oh wait, wasn't there a small map in the manual? It's been a long time. One of the first 5 NES games I owned.

Basically I'm referring to any ol' game where you get some powerup that affects the number of locations you can go to... which is kinda general and could apply to almost any game, but if you don't get pedantic then we should be ok.

Man you're making it tough. By that logic you could include a lot of older games. Hell, modern ones too such as R&C.

I find it a challenge to discuss genres because it's so hard to define specifics, and then on top of that so many games are a blend of genres. Long ago I heard Zelda referred to as an RPG. Nah, RPG's have a lot more stats to track. Oh but Zelda gives you new items and areas, still it's not Metroidvania.

I'd rather buy another GB than a phone. Yeah the advancement in tech is neat to watch but there comes a point where costs outweigh usefulness. I mean I kinda want a 3D printer, just not quite enough to invest in one. 4K TV? Meh, the sizes I've seen don't have optical out. My car is an 03 and I don't know how much longer it'll go. But I don't want BT, satellite radio, or other gimmicks.

Meanwhile I have hundreds of games and a pinball machine because those will get use. Yeah maybe I'm not like everyone else.

Why would you even refer to them as Zelda-styled? Not seeing much connection for least a few of those. Putting Darksiders in the same camp as Battle of Olympus is also just weird.

I've heard so many times that Darksiders is a Zelda clone...

The first one maybe, not so much the second. There are some similarities in the gameplay and progression but not to the point I'd call it a clone.

Pssh, why would you feel weird? People playing 'games' on their phones are the ones who look stupid. Get a real platform for games. I have no problem playing my Vita on the rare occasion I have to wait somewhere. Thing is most people won't know what it is and will just assume it's some odd mobile device.

I have 2 GB's. The rechargeable packs don't work but otherwise it's all good. Then again I'd use the SP for the backlight.

I'm the opposite. I'd rather jump into another game instead of dragging one out longer. Years of playing has given me a good eye when buying games. Rarely do I end up with a stinker that I don't finish. Because the backlog keeps growing I'm not trying to make any particular game longer so I'm not likely to get DLC. Maybe the free stuff if I can use it along the way.

I know I skipped a lot. Batman, Bioshock, GTA, Farcry, UC, TR. The base game is plenty. DLC is why I can finish a game and end up with just a 60% completion rate. Good thing I don't need 100%.

The only way this would make sense is if I say I'm not a fan of fighting games. A long time ago I bought a DC for just a few games and believe I traded it in (for decent credit) towards a PS2. Some time later I got another used DC. The reason it bugs me a little is I don't have an original box.

Other than that, I've kept every other platform whether I got it new or used. I'm glad I did if you check out the going prices for everything. For as often as you see people bashing on the VB that's become an item especially if you have the full set. I actually liked it. Warioland, Panic Bomber, and 3D Tetris were unique at the time.

Like the rest of ya, all about what I'm in the mood for. I have a large enough backlog that I've something to cover just about anything. Long games, short, stealth, shmup, FPS, puzzle, platforming, racing, RPG, VR... It's not always easy to pick the next game and sometimes when there's a tie I'll go with the one that's been on the backlog the longest.

There are other factors at play too. It's the summer and I don't have AC in my room. Meaning I won't be likely to dig out Rock Band or the PSVR. If my schedule is wonky I'll try some shorter games. Then on top of that I have smaller backlogs on the Vita, 3DS, PS3, Wii U, and Switch. The games from previous gens that I never played, well I have to draw the line somewhere. Maybe if the market goes full digital and I stop buying new stuff.

There will always be free content, some people need their daily 15 minutes of fame. The quality may suffer when they have to host it themselves. Still, the advertising market shot themselves when they turned invasive. Plus it's a security risk since some ads can deliver malware.

They only give sites a few cents per click anyway. It's not like you're supporting a site with a great source of funding. Screw advertising.

You haven't disproven anything I said though. The best you had was some vague crap about a few people struggling for the answers and everyone else looking up a walkthrough. For later stages that would be excusable. Not for a first stage. It's like they forgot half the game and then locked the rest of it behind finding a secret boss that isn't the fake first boss I heard about once. Yep, nothing like playing for a month to find a boss and it won't let you into area 2. Great programming, idiots...

Then I already gave examples of why products can still be trash even if large numbers of people buy them. You'll have to do better.

More inane stuff.

Nothing you've said makes this untrue:

When you claim that you can't find a single boss after hours of play, you're terrible at the game. You can't blame the game design. You can deny it all you want, but it's true. It's fine if you dislike the game. But claiming the game is designed poorly just because you're incapable of doing what thousands, if not millions, of others have done is just a s*** excuse. The game itself, while not perfect, is designed well enough to have earned accolades from critics and gamers alike. You're too inept to figure the game out.

Actually it does. You said a few people played it but never explained what they used for reference or how long it took. Nowhere did you counter the fact that a game that takes days to figure out is not designed well. "Some people figured it out so it must be ok" is not good logic.

You can't say "Some people" when the game is critically acclaimed by tons of people. Just because you can't figure it out yourself doesn't mean there is bad game design, you and maybe a few other people are not the measure by what good design is based on.

Everything I see your username I think of DSP, which is exactly who you're acting like.

Tons my ass. I said before it's pretty easy to 'buy' favorable reviews. So that excuse goes right out the window. Every time some fool tries to excuse a terrible product because 'everyone else does it' I laugh. Tons of people drink and smoke. Chia Pets. Body modding. CoD. Uh, I could name a bunch of things that prove large numbers can still be very wrong.

I have no idea who or what that is.

Nope. Wrong again. Your singular experience doesn't define the quality of the product. Even if there are others who are so inept as you are, to the point where they can't even find a single boss to fight, there is most certainly a majority who played the game and got along just fine.

Just admit I'm right already. How can you claim 'majority' when you have no numbers and no way to know how many agree it has one of the stupidest designs? Nevermind avoiding my questions. I don't care if a few people stuck around long enough to beg for tips. I'm talking any random player who picks this up.

Really, you're so focused on ignoring the problems and trying to blame me for something the devs did wrong. You're not very good at this discussion stuff.

Exactly what I'm thinking. While I completed Demon's I felt it was a bit too slow paced for me and didn't try the Dark games. Knowing they are sorta related, there most definitely were things added in the Dark games that fans would pick up on quickly. You'd spot a shiny and head down the dead end knowing there's a path or whatever.

BB was supposed to be faster, have more action. That's why I got a copy. Shame the devs forgot to add clues for those of us who didn't follow their previous games. It's not as if I rushed to leave either. I spent a good couple hours wandering around. In the end I was more embarrassed for not having played GTA so I looked at BB and went 'peh'.

I don't mind some long games although I cut back on RPG's because my backlog is out of control. How long did it take before the game actually started doing something interesting?

After so many years of gaming the one thing that bugs me the most is not making progress. Either failing and repeating long areas, going in circles, extended cutscenes, whatever results in my time not gaining anything.

Nah I have it so 0%'s don't show up. There were a bunch of VR demos that were taking up space on my PS4 list so I cleaned it out.

It's the same name I'm using here. I thought 'whoa' when I saw your 700+ games but it doesn't look like you finish much.

We've been over this. It's not me. The person above says it takes a few days to figure out. How is that ok? Again if you want to run to a walkthrough or waste days trying to sort out bad design decisions, then that's you. Sure I'm disappointed I spent money on a game that went nowhere but it's silly to suffer with junk when I have so much more ahead. Bad means bad.

Oh and not only that when I first had this discussion elsewhere there was a rumor there's actually more than one boss in the first level. Due to bad design again, this boss doesn't actually let you advance to the second area. How is THAT ok? It's seriously like they sat down to come up with ways to screw gamers over and keep everyone from getting into it. No items, no levels, fake bosses, the 'real' boss is hidden like an easter egg, and well I named these problems earlier.
