I'm late to the party, but people griping about Bloodborne amuse me. Playing Bloodborne is like watching plants grow in a garden. The first few days you're going to be staring at dirt, but when when you stick with it, it blossoms into something incredible, giving you a sense of accomplishment for sticking it out.

There's a reason that gardening isn't for everybody.

Days? They can piss right off then. If a player needs that much time to figure a game out to make it good then it's not made properly. Just for reference when I'm off work during the winter I'm here trying to finish at least one game every week.

your other post up there makes it sound like it's because the glue just falls apart from wear

that's not what it is. that doesn't do anything to cause or prevent disc rot.

disc rot is literally what its name is: rot. the glue literally starts rotting.

Ugh. If you don't get it then don't bother. The glue has nothing to do with discs exploding. It's just there to hold the layers. The plastic and the data is still intact. Usage does not put stress on the glue. Moral of the story is if you had a disc break then there was some other defect involved. Or negligence if it got brittle from laying in the sun or if a dog gnawed on it.

As for the main topic if you guys doubt me then look up my trophy card. I finished Demon's Souls. Completed Furi, TxK (Vita), Gungeon with 2 characters. Been through a lot.

Perhaps where my skills are better on reflex games or platformers, those who thought BB was good had the extra experience from the 3 Dark Souls games. I skipped those and wouldn't know the clues (if any) they put out. Then I'll be honest and say I started BB without waiting for the patch to finish in case that added some extras like missing boss characters.

You're taking this way too seriously. RE isn't a simulation. I'm going by the gameplay from the original titles, that's what I'm looking for from RE.

Oh ok, so you want every game to be just like the first 2 and for nothing, even the world building, to go beyond that.

How many people think RE4 is one of the best RE games in the series?

"Just like"? No. Games do change a little over time. What I'm not fond of is a radical departure from what the series is known for. RE4 wasn't anywhere near 1/2/3. Jak 1 was a great platformer. Jak 2/3 were weak action games. Doom 3 was closer to Fear than D1/2. Stuff like that.

Probably just the people who started on 4. Granted, if you went backwards then the tank controls are going to suck. You'd have to have played them in order to know what I mean. Then like I keep saying I have high hopes that RE7 is a return to its roots.

You're trying to take this in a different direction. You seem to be forgetting that this whole thing started because you admitted that you're terrible at the game and seem to blame your complete inability to figure the game out - where others have figured it out just fine - on the developers and "poor design". It's not the game. It's you. If you weren't completely awful, you could find a boss within the first hour, easily. If you're halfway decent at the game, you could find a boss in half that time. Funny you bring up how you wish the game were more linear. It's not exactly a maze with branching paths. Some of the routes you take circle back to earlier areas, but it's not hard to figure out where you need to go, if you have any sense to you.

Stop trying to protect a bad game. It's not my fault. I have years of experience with a huge variety of games so trying to blame me isn't going to work. The part of the game that was unlocked wasn't hard at all. It wasn't until I was partway into GTA that someone said the first boss is literally an easter egg hidden behind some secret blocked off side path. I probably walked by it once or twice. If I need to waste days scouring for a tiny path or rush to a walkthrough for the first area then yeah I'm going to blame bad design.

It's like giving people a word search and not telling them the words to look for. Big difference between 'challenge' and 'vague because we can and F you'. So when I weigh my choices between BB or moving on to better games like UC4, MGS5, Farcry 4, Doom, Last Guardian, or other major games I've not gotten to yet like Horizon, RE7, Hitman, Dishonored 2, Breath of the Wild, etc, it was easy to dump BB to the dud pile.

That's just it. Everything led back to the same point so I knew I wasn't missing anything. A few gates opened, important ones stayed locked. Still, if I was at least earning something for my repeated trips through the campfire area then maybe I'd have stuck around longer. I saw it all in the first hour or so. The remainder of the 3 hours was stuck on repeat.

All I'm saying is RE lost its touch when we gave up the residence and item management. Now you blast away at everything that moves and we already have too much of that.

Alright, so you're saying that even though in this game's universe they won't have contingency plans in case another Racoon City happens?

And you're no longer playing as people who just happen to come across a situation. Now they can and are actually prepared for things.

I type FPS way more than TPS, so I think given the context we know what we're talking about.

You're taking this way too seriously. RE isn't a simulation. I'm going by the gameplay from the original titles, that's what I'm looking for from RE. It was almost replaced with Dead Space until EA pulled the same crap by going all shooter with it. This is why I say RE has boiled down to your generic zombie hunting game and if you want something creepy you need to look elsewhere.

RE4 was too much a departure, kinda like Doom 3 compared to the first two. Plus it annoyed me because there was a lot of shooting and I HATE using analogs for those kinds of games. I didn't get my Aimon until the PS3 gen where RE4 was on GC.

tbh, googled it to learn a bit more and discovered that DVDs have a projected 20-200 lifespan. I'm still a little surprised that they can wear at all, considering that they require physical contact to be read (well, other than the part being spun)

20-200 year lifespan is so laughably broad. It's like saying the human lifespan is 10-100 years.

I don't even know how they could come up with a 200 lifespan since DVDs haven't been around anywhere close to that. The oldest DVDs are like 30 years old, so how could you possibly know that they may last another 170 years? Do they have a time machine that allows them to go 200 years in the future to confirm that there will still be working DVDs 200 years from now?

Regarding the physical contact part of your post, the layers of DVDs are held together by glue. Glue is going to deteriorate over time regardless of whether or not you actually use the DVD. I really doubt there is any glue in the world that is going to hold together for 200 years. That would be some super strong glue. lol

Thinking about this in reverse, 200 years ago was the year 1818. Is there anything built in 1818 that still works today?

It's like you're scratching for excuses. Of course we haven't tested how long plastics will actually last but it's not like we're seeing them degrade so fast that 100+ years is an unreasonable guess. I mean vinyl records are maybe twice as old and they're still in use.

This isn't Elmer's glue. What's more is there's no stress on the glue to pull it apart. Optical discs don't require physical contact. The glue holds the layers together but the force from spinning is on a different plane. That's all on the spindle and the disc.

Well duh, what kind of answer do you expect? They didn't have electronics back then and there are standing structures that are centuries old.

Bah, you're a looney. Disc rot is a fairy tale used to scare people into buying inferior digital goods. I have carts that are 30 years old and disc games nearing 20. Plenty of CD's too. None of them are going bad. While I agree nothing lasts forever, these items with minimal care are going to last for decades.

Disc rot is not a fairy tale at all. Just because it has not happened to you doesn't mean it can't or won't happen. That's like saying cancer is a fairy tale because you have never had cancer.

How often do you actually check all your discs? I do mean ALL of them. Most people with really old discs don't check them all that often and don't check them all either. If you have 1,000+ discs, it's fairly safe to bet that at least a few of them will have rotted and you may not even know if since you haven't checked them in years.

Two totally different topics...

It is a fairy tale. A properly pressed disc (meaning you didn't pirate a bunch of games on cheap CDR's) will last way longer than you'll have a need for it.

Now what could be said is how you care for them or that they're being used in the machines they were designed for. Throwing a disc for PS1 speeds into a 50x PC drive isn't exactly the disc's fault.

I rotate through my CD's since that's all I use in the car. The games are mostly packed away because I'm busy with current gen stuff but when I had everything out for pics or to reorganize, they were fine. They don't just go bad all of a sudden, and certainly not this soon.

DPsx7 can't figure out a game that millions of other people have figured out: "It's the game's fault!"

I didn't want to sit through an online walkthrough. Besides, having a lot of players doesn't save it.

Point wasn't how many people played BB as much as how many people played it and figured it out for themselves. Many played BB without a guide and got on just fine. But please, tell us more about how developers should tailor their games to fit snugly around your inadequacies.

'Many' isn't a very clear number. If you want to waste days trying to figure out a game then great. I have way too much else to play to fart away a week on 'world 1'. If I wanted a puzzle game I'd have chosen something else.

Don't get me wrong it's not that I support the extra hand-holding some games offer. I started on the NES and can appreciate tougher games. However I'm not going to write excuses for a poorly designed game that decided to be vague not for challenge but just to be annoying. At least if it was linear then I'd have something to work with. Here you just go in circles, not making ANY kind of progress for my effort. All I managed was buying armor, stockpile potions for a game that never started, and earn ammo for a gun that did absolutely nothing. No maps, no items, no NPC's, no online, no levels, no fun.

My guess is this game launched during a time where people wanted to brag about it versus what XB had. XB never had anything and BB wasn't good enough to ever brag about. And it takes a special kind of dud for me to put a game away before seeing the credits. I'm talking like less than 5% of games I start.

BB was just poorly designed by locking so much of the game behind finding a boss. I mean you couldn't even go online when you start out. It felt like a friggin demo.

I played Demons but not the Dark games so that might have something to do with it. BB looked better on the box by claiming to be more action oriented. Oh well.

That's wrong. It's more about bad design. I had no problem with the villager zombies. After clearing them out at least twice I found I wasn't gaining levels. Nothing new was appearing in the shop. Locked paths weren't opening. I was wasting my time on something totally overhyped. And since I'd made up my mind that GTA was on the backlog too long I switched games and GTA was great.

So I flipped up the table, underneath was the electrical schematic. I used an EC meter and identified that the solenoid for the broken flipper was bad. I ordered a new one, replaced it and that's how I fixed a pinball machine without any training.

That was lucky. A good portion of the underside is easy to fix. If something isn't moving it's either stuck and dirty or a switch/solenoid is broken. Bulbs and rubbers are simple. My biggest concern are the boards in the backbox.

I'm sure, with the multipliers and keeping score, the backboard is more complicated.

I surprised myself, at the time, that I fixed it. Maybe I'm a genius?

Both types have their issues. Electro Mechanical like the baseball game doesn't have all the fancy electronics the Solid States do. Clean some coils and switches and for the most part EM's will work. Anything else breaks and it takes some time to track down, where a SS has reports to tell you what is broken. But like I said before, my SS has several major electronics boards in the box and if any of those go down, well, I doubt replacements will be easy to find let alone cheap. They aren't anything I'll be fixing myself.

Maybe. Ha. Common sense is a good thing. When one flipper stops working there's only a couple things you need to check. If the mech part can swing freely then check the switch or coil. Something I learned is a coil either works or it doesn't. Any machine with weak flippers needs to have the coil sleeves replaced or the mech part cleaned or adjusted. Don't use oil as that tends to collect 'pinball dust' and turn into gum.

I translated the directions once for a Spanish assignment. One of the few good grades I got. Even I can make this stuff so yeah.
