There's nothing else useful under Prime besides shipping so why pay $100 when 'free' shipping can be free. Even BB's program was a joke because you have to pay to get discounts and that's absurd.

That's not what I said, though. Brave Fencer Musashi, Ape Escape, Point Blank, Twisted Metal (the last game on PS3 wasn't that bad), Jet Moto, Lunar, Jumping Flash, Startropics, Earthbound, Guardian Legend, someone mentioned Warioland in another topic... Sure it does. Unsafe software doesn't tell you that it's doing that.

Whether it exists or not is irrelevant. Being more recent by a factor of 15+, my recollection is automatically considered more credible than yours. The only way you'll be able to offset that difference is with proof. If you can't provide proof, you're just going to have to accept that you don't have a credible recollection.

For that matter, proof should be easy for you to produce. You could very easily record a video of you downloading Steam, installing HL2 and not being able to play it. That is, provided your experience can actually be recreated, which is precisely what nobody but you believes.

You can disable automatic updates.

Obviously you wouldn't sit at the computer and wait for a fix. You'd go do something else for a couple weeks until another patch came out, checking periodically. You wouldn't exactly be wasting any more time.

I linked you to a set of patch notes for HL2, which included bug fixes. More recently, DotA 2 sees extremely frequent patches that fix bugs (too many, really, but that's another issue). That's just plain false.

If you can't be more specific, then you shouldn't have brought it up. A vague "Valve totally sent me something that sounded like they were messing with my account even though I don't use it so they're evil" isn't going to convince anyone of anything unless you can provide actual details.

You are absurdly paranoid.

Hmm. True enough. So Steam is just bad software that wanted to be honest for a minute.

A few years hardly cancels my experience. How do we know you're not lying? Or worse you don't know what it's doing to your parent's PC. A lot of kids walk away during installs and miss all the fun messages. Furthermore there's nothing you could say that would convince me I need proof badly enough to reinfect and reenact what I went through. Letting myself get burned twice would make me look bad for a change.

Wrong. I would have if it was allowed. Then again you also claim it works offline. I'm thinking you've never touched Steam.

I like to finish games before moving onto more. Maybe I'll start 2, 3 tops if they're different from each other. A couple weeks doesn't fit my schedule. They're probably adding ways to dodge virus scanners.

That's great and all but I think HL2 on its own wasn't the problem. It was dragged down and destroyed by the 'other stuff' that came with it. I mean if that bad update wasn't forced to go through I'd have missed the glitches.

They're already a miserable bunch of goons. Tampering with my account is merely further proof they can't be trusted. And that's what you want is proof.

Again, one burn was enough. I learned my lesson. It's not paranoia if the threat is true.

Of the choices on the poll, Wario Land by far. I never got to own any of the games when they were new (although I did try out one or two of them for a few minutes each a long time ago) but I've gotten my hands on 1, 4 and Shake It! in recent years and wow was I missing out. Seems like the series took a back seat to the WarioWare Inc. games and, while I love me some WarioWare, I don't see much of a reason why both couldn't co-exist. They're unique, funny and, most importantly, fun to play through. Hopefully, I'll come across 2 and 3 soon and, if I ever find a Virtual Boy for cheap, the Wario Land for that system will be on the top of my list.

So agreed. I've always liked platformers and trying to find all the hidden items made this series special. Normally you only find such gameplay in 3D styles. The VB Warioland is a big reason why I own a VB. Good luck finding one for cheap. Might have to get a clunker and fix it since working ones turned into collectors items.

I see you're still not getting it. So hopeless. Oh well here goes another try.

It was during the main install that it was snooping for software. Safe software doesn't do that.

Funny how you'll deny the millions of problems Steam has by asking for proof you know doesn't exist. The drive was wiped and refreshed. You want the game and box to prove I tried the physical option?

Whatever you want to call it. I didn't willingly DL anything. It was forced. Coupled with the fact it was bad is another checkmark of malware. Steam doesn't offer rollback. Wait longer? Nah I wasted enough time on that shitty thing trying to play a single game. Besides, I told you I asked for help and got none. Valve doesn't fix their stuff.

Compromised by them. Sorry I can't be more specific but again it was some time ago and being from Valve I didn't spend much time reading the note just in case one of their links was infectious. Then if you think about it, since Steam was one of the worst gaming experiences I've gone through do I really care whether it was a spoof or stolen? Any potential thief will end up with Steam and I'm gonna laugh. Serves 'em right.

I have both Steam and a virus scanner active, and I don't recall Steam doing any searching for installed software the last time I installed it. You would lose that bet.

Sounds like a broken installation. Something got messed up somewhere, whether it was a PEBKAC error or otherwise. A clean reinstall would probably have been your best bet there. It's nothing inherent to Steam or HL2 in general, since I can tell you I installed HL2 from a physical copy of The Orange Box without any issues.

They've pretty clearly been fixing the game, not refusing to do so. As for the profile updates, I still don't know what you're talking about because you're being too vague and paranoid, but it wouldn't surprise me if there were some feature or other they added (to everyone; they aren't personally tampering with your dormant account) and they sent out an email to people that were likely to have missed it (which isn't exactly uncommon practice for customer retention). Not exactly something to be scared of.

You don't recall is not proof it doesn't happen. I say nearby during the install. I saw it. The damn thing took 3 hours from disc to main menu. Such time includes whatever it was DL'ing.

Now we're getting somewhere. Steam was broken. HL2 looked normal before one of the several times it was blocked. A forced update then broke the game. Why did I need this update? Because level 2 of the virus was installed.

It's not on purpose. The message was sent a while ago. It wasn't 'please update'. Instead they sent 'we've started tampering'. Wanna say it was a phone number or something was changed. Malware does like to collect data you know.

A presumption you're basing on what?

Not really. One crash a decade ago doesn't really amount to enough undesirability to avoid it forever.

I'm not sure what you're talking about, but if it was within the last couple months, that'd likely be in response to the new privacy laws enacted by the EU in response to the whole Cambridge Analytica thing. Pretty much every account-based service has sent out a message like that to all of their users, since a major element of those new laws is a need to be more transparent about what's being shared in profiles and to offer users the opportunity to remove that information if they don't want it shared. It is in fact not suspicious at all.

Easy. When I first put the disc in and Steam started shitting all over the place I distinctly remember it saying it was searching my drive for installed software. That was the first red flag and I shoulda flipped the switch then and there. I'll bet they were trying to disable any virus scanners. I let it proceed though as this came before the events that led to its removal.

It wasn't a crash. More a series of increasing problems. From DL'ing for hours despite installing from disc, to blocking its use, to DL'ing an update that corrupted the game. The ammo counter was moved to the center of the screen and the backgrounds became multicolored.

I explained it in the previous reply. It was at least a year ago. They refused to fix the game or ship a clean version, but hey why not tamper with dormant accounts because Valve gives a big 'F you' to their customers.

How the hell did you play for 80 hours yet get only 30 boxes? You get one every level-up. Even a casual player can easily get one a day via quickplay playing for, like, an hour or two at most. Nevermind if you go to arcade.

Also, special modes don't vanish after a week. The event stuff usually lasts quite a bit (month or so IIRC) and even when nothing is going on you can get some via arcade which keeps multiple modes in constant rotation.

And even THEN I find it very difficult to believe you went through 30 boxes and got 0 skins. Maybe if you were referring to an epic skin, but the more common ones? You should have gotten at least, like, six or seven over 30 boxes.

And even THEEEN... With 800 coins you weren't too far away from being able to basically buy any skin you wanted.

AND EVEN THEEEEEEENNNNN... Overwatch has been getting a constant stream up updated content. We've gotten six new heroes since launch along with six new 'normal' maps and all the specialized maps for other modes such as arena.

So really? Your complaints sound less grounded and more like you just didn't like the game and are trying to badmouth it to justify your dislike despite not having played it a lot. If you don't like it or weren't good at it, that's entirely fine... but complaining about a lack of new content (despite frequent champions and skins and events) and not getting any skins in their lootboxes (which sounds awfully suspicious) doesn't help your case.

It was a little over 30 for ranks. 36 I wanna say? I dunno how many freebies were there but they didn't give anything special.

The modes (or events I suppose) didn't last long at all. They could have kept the game interesting longer. Rocket League kept their new modes. Blizz dropped the ball.

I'd have to look but don't think so. Was stuck using defaults for the characters I tried. It's possible they changed the costs. 800 wasn't very close from what I recall. And that's all I received, it's not like I spent any coins. They're too rare.

Already stated they took too long and I quit playing a while ago. 6 characters now doesn't fix the broken promises of content back near launch.

Lol no skins are buyable with coin, not only that but you can earn 3 lootboxes a week from arcade and one from every level up.

Did they change that? I'm damn near certain the fancy skins could be traded for if you had an asston of coins. That was how they encourage you to give them money, by dropping the odds. I will never pay for loot in any game, so the fact I couldn't change the colors on my character was another reason why the game stunk.

Peterass posted...

You must be unlucky with OW because I've played probably twice as much as you since launch and have almost every skin. As you play more, you get more coins from loot boxes duplicate items give you coins..

They release new stuff pretty regularly and it's almost always pretty good. Might not be the perfect game for your taste but tons still play it and it's still very heavily supported. I still play and have a lot of fun doing so. As for COD...not my thing.

Probably. I wasn't planning on sticking around long enough to see if things get better. The maps and modes at the time got stale. I heard duplicate items would change to coins but that's another way Blizz screws you - each new update gives more stickers so you don't get dupes, don't get coins, and maybe get frustrated enough to pay up. They had their chance and from what I've seen Blizz is overhyped.

No votes for F-Zero or Starfox? What's wrong with you people?

There's probably more I'm forgetting too. You can't go wrong with SNES.

I think so. We didn't have G4 long enough for me to learn the shows before they closed up. I miss that channel. There's barely enough worth watching on TV the way it is. I mean there's Discovery, Adult Swim, the Weather Channel, Boomerang, Science, and some reruns on Comedy, FXX, and TBS.

I've never asked/been asked for a date yet so the whole couples or marriage thing hasn't even crossed my mind. I know a few friends have been married and a couple of them divorced already. That's not encouraging.

Geez, last time I was AT a wedding I was still holding a Speak n Spell... Been a looong time.

Are those the sale prices? I won't touch a digital purchase if it's over $10. I figure without a disc/case/manual then I shouldn't have to pay more than that.

Huh? What the hell are you supposed to tap? It's a card with a chip.

I'll keep hoping for a clean, playable copy of HL2.

You have one. Give it a try, your computer won't explode.

Where is it then? If it has Steam then it will.

There is an offline mode. It always works. Forever. You said something false. You are a liar.

The root of the problem is Steam users live in ignorance.

R oh effing L either the worst troll ever or actually borderline 70 iq.

There isn't or HL2 would have worked. Like I told the other person this is a serious problem and if you're going to act stupid then why waste the time. Steam is trash and I don't know who is paying you to lie about it. I've seen what this software does.

blizzard doesn't force people to buy loot at all, why is that one of your biggest complaints about this game?

and i'm sorry, but even if you don't like this it's still better than all the generic CoDs and battlefronts and what the fuck evers, the only other thing somewhat similar it is over a decade old now. i'd much rather they keep with this tbh. other than a select one or two, the companies with experience suck at their jobs at this point.

You can't be serious. Of course they do - if you want a skin you gotta buy it. They never show up randomly and like I said it would take several years to earn enough coins to buy one. I forget how long I played, maybe 80 hours? Only got 30 some odd boxes and a pitiful 800 coins. They should have worked on non-loot content. I wanted maps and modes. Got one map and the modes vanished after a week.

Oh I absolutely agree. I wouldn't devalue my collection with a CoD game. Not even once. However I wouldn't call OW good because they compare themselves to the slime at the bottom of the barrel. There are way better games with lots more content.

Lol, this is how I got rid of Steam back in the day. I wiped my drive and started fresh to be sure there weren't remnants in the registry.

Yeah basically you want a new HDD or to format the old one and reinstall the base software.

-In the case of more obscure or older games, it makes finding matches easier and increases the variety of people you play with
-It allows you to play with friends who have different systems (this is especially important for games like Minecraft where multiplayer with friends is so much better than multiplayer with randoms)

On the consumer end, the only downside is potentially bringing in more hackers if PC's included in the crossplay, since PC's a much easier platform to hack games on. That can be mitigated by effective anti-cheat policies from the developer. For the platform owner, the downside is that people no longer have to buy their platform.

Chances are those games won't boost their numbers even with crossplay. Too few people buy them.

Get new friends. If they don't have the same PS4/Switch that you're using then they're doing something wrong.

A good point right there. It's not only money but security issues.

Tearaway, Gravity Rush, and Muramasa were good if you didn't play them on other consoles already. DJ Technika and IA/VT are music games. Dokuro and Stealth Inc are puzzle platformers. Then if you go back to the early stuff there's Hot Shots, Katamari, Uncharted Golden Abyss, Wipeout, and LBP.

I have a lot I haven't tried yet too.
