emulators are not a 1:1 thing.

they use different tricks in order to play the game. the whole reason he was found to be using an emulator is because his screen did not refresh and display new things like the proper arcade or console would do.

you also cannot be sure they aren't using a modified version of the game, or what settings are on the emulator that could potentially make it easier

again, there is a reason they are not allowed and are considered cheating.

I'm aware. PC monitors/hardware can run the same code but not function exactly the same. Yeah I think I heard about the discrepancy with the refresh.

I kinda like him more now after hearing some funny stories. Like how he wants to mail a CD copy of Elton's 'Rocket Man' to Kim, and then the story he told about testing someone he calls Pocahontas. I wish I had the links.

You fools will say he is doing bad. I prefer someone with a sense of humor.

Why? It's the same software, just minus the hardware which has likely seen better days. Like I said, not cheating, more like unverified or unofficial.

Oh okay

Is there like a source?

There's a detailed source on the twingalaxies site which hosts video game world records that explains that Billy was using an emulator and not a regular arcade cabinet to cheat his way to an unobtainable score.

If else a guy on Youtube named Apollo Legend is the one who compiled the evidence and put it all together to bring it to light and is now apparently in a lawsuit because of Billy.

In case you want to see it:

Despite my fondness for gaming and all its trivia this isn't something I've paid attention to. Figured it's just a pissing content between some guys who will do anything to keep the high score.

Anyway my understanding is emulation uses the actual files from the arcade. It's not 'cheating' but I can see why people call it unofficial because they can't verify if everything was left at defaults.

Sort of? I'm not wealthy or anything but have a bit of free spending money since I'm not wasting it on phone bills, travel, eating out, etc. If there's a game on sale I'll get it. Otherwise no there really aren't a lot of things out there I'm willing to spend full price on. There's nothing wrong with saving it for later. Honestly I say the whole 'planned scarcity' rumor is BS. It's an excuse people use when they underestimate the popularity of Nin's products. Those who want it most will get it first. History has shown us that Nin doesn't need tricks to sell their products. Their quality reputation is plenty.

First advice - Steam sucks. Run, run far and fast. Second I have Nep U but haven't tried it yet. Just Cause is good as long as you're ready for a lot of travel time. I was too cheap to buy the jetpack DLC. Rogue was a fun game if you're into platformers. Like other roguelikes it'll take some time to get a feel for the game and build up your character a little in between runs.

Wait how is your Game Gear still working? Is it the Majesco re-release? I found two original Game Gear handhelds a couple of years back for super cheap and they both need their capacitors replaced. I'd have done them myself but I'm too much of a clutz to trust myself with a repair job such as such.

On topic, no I won't be buying either any time soon. Almost all of my money is being focused on my out of state move happening in about two weeks and I'll be pretty tight with my money once the move is done until I can find myself a job. It's no huge loss though since I already own an actual NES and SNES and have a pretty good amount of games for both.

No, mine was recapped and the backlight redone. I bought it used a while ago. I'll also admit I sent my VB screens out to be retouched because the glue wears off over time and they get glitchy.

Many jobs can be done at home if you take your time and have the right tools. Just cleaning the dust out occasionally goes a long way. A few specialty jobs you may want to have someone else do especially if you're not handy with a soldering iron. In any case these consoles are very durable and are totally repairable. Modern consoles (ones with fans and HDD's) get a lot hotter than retro systems so it's even more important to keep them dust free if you want them to survive. There are a ton of videos online so there's little reason to be afraid of some maintenance.

No. I still have my originals. Hooked up, too.

Thats cool, surprised they all still work

Simpler technology usually means fewer things that can fail, tbh. I expect my Gameboy will probably outlast my GBA-SP which, in turn, should outlast both my DS-L and 3DS (and, technically, if you count that I broke the chassis on my first DS-L, it kinda already has -- although that wasn't mechanical failure, that was just clumsiness).

Even the older consoles have all sorts of things that go wrong with them. Good luck finding a secondhand atari or nes that actually works. Its possible, but most of them need components replaced.

Why would it be hard? I still have my original NES and easily replaced the 72 pin connector to fix any potential blinking screens. I have systems going all the way back past the Atari and the only one to break beyond my ability to fix was an original PS1 when the laser board broke. Granted I haven't used them all recently but still. Retro systems are way more bulletproof than modern platforms.

I have a working Game Gear, VB, and launch day PS2 and PS3. Just gotta take care of 'em and clean them once in a while. Maybe replace a battery too.

There's practically no incentive for Prime unless you want 'free' shipping in 2 days instead of about a week.
