In fact, I think the writer and artist did a very good job of depicting the abuse that can come from these situations. That doesn't mean I can't be upset at the situation, because I believe it is a depiction that feels real and true to life. Like I feel it's good to have an emotional response to this. And same to the later panels. The situation as a whole is left ambiguous but it can be read many ways, as I stated. One was saying how the gap to getting where we can be effective with this tech is Brobdingnagian, to the point where learning how to create our own wormholes would be easier. The other, and more important in my mind, is about how people like Musk are gating science and advancement by controlling it with their money, making sure they suck all the oxygen out of the room for media coverage, and making sure they own every step of new technology so that no one else will ever be able to contribute to it (unless they worked for Musk). Science should be a global effort, especially nowadays, not the province of a few rich egomaniacs. --- CyricZ He/him |
