Yeah I didn't post in that topic, but there are definitely some scary elements to the game. It's not designed to be a "horror" experience from top to bottom, but as you can see, you're going through a dark, largely abandoned, underwater city where the active population are unhinged and want to kill you.

Im honestly shocked you think so highly of people.
I think people ultimately look to the path of least resistance. If a vaccine can mean they still have a job and aren't scrambling for employment, they'd accept it by and large.

https://www.npr.org/2021/10/07/1043332198/employer-vaccine-mandates-success-workers-get-shots-to-keep-jobs

While I'm sure there will be (and there was in the case of the police) people quitting over it, it wasn't anything that put so heavy of a burden on the work.

Testing requirements arent there to force people to get vaccinated, they exist so a business can do contract tracing and make sure infected people arent working.
I agree with MZG on the idea that by far the less expensive proposition between the two presented in the ETS is for the company to institute a mandatory vaccination policy. While not "forcing", it's still just good business sense.

Of course, by this point, a considerable number (I don't have the data, just anecdotal) of large businesses are already doing regular testing for tracing. Having these already in place means that the company has already assumed the burden.

I would be upset at my child for making a foolish decision, not at the system for not forcing a medical decision on my child.
And being their parent, would you attempt to correct your child on this?

That's the point I'm making. As a person responsible for another person's life, you owe it to them to give them the best information and direction they can get for their own decisions, and if you knew they were making poor decisions, resort to discipline when all else fails.

MasterZeldaGuy posted...
Osha can control what I do while at work
OSHA regulates your employer, not you. Unless you have a controlling stake in your place of business, believing you will shoulder these regulatory burdens is fallacious.

So in that sense, your employer is the parent and responsible for your health and safety while present at the workplace, and that includes making sure you don't willfully go against their safety policies. Doing so can result in disciplinary action up to and including termination, and that's true of every company in the US that OSHA applies to.

Unfortunately for your argument, the best you can do is present a scenario which I honestly don't believe is likely. I personally work at a firm that required the vaccine when the first doses were coming out back in early 2021. Everyone took it. They even had the carrot of having a big barbecue once everyone's vaccination was complete.

I don't feel this concern of people walking out and causing your own work to pile up holds.

Of course you're being facetious, but honestly that underlines your general attitude with regards to your own living situation. You've found you just can't get up the energy to care about others anymore.

And ultimately it's your right to choose whether to care, and your privilege to be able to not care, but I don't think there's much of a place for you in these kinds of discussions if you're trying to play the "not caring" angle.

When I said essentially fining them, I meant through the cost of time, needing to pay people to administer tests, testing materials, etc. They were essentially told that if the individual company didnt make vaccination mandatory that the company would be burdened with a whole slew of hoops to jump through.
Yes this is the burden of compliance with regulations. For the goal of worker safety. Which is what OSHA was created for.

My only problem with it was that it was essentially fining companies that didnt require vaccines.
No that's not what the ETS was for. Reminder here:

https://www.osha.gov/news/newsreleases/national/11042021

Companies had the option for a mandatory vaccination policy or a combination vaccination and regular testing policy.

As far as death numbers go, the vast majority are unvaccinated, correct? Sounds to me like theyre making the choice that the risks didnt outweigh the benefits, which is the choice I think everyone should have. And to be frank, if you choose to not get vaccinated and end up dying, thats on you. You also should be at the bottom of the list for medical care.
As has been talked about in this topic, this is a selfish attitude that goes against why people are in medical care in the first place.

To try to frame this in a way that hits more close to home, if one of your children refused the vaccine on personal grounds, would you accept that and leave them to die if they got infected?

If youre at risk of death from catching Covid and arent willing to accept the risk, you shouldnt be putting yourself in situations where you might catch it.
This "should" of yours hasn't worked, as the recent death numbers have shown.

Issuing mandates wont change the fact that people who are at risk will continue to be at risk
That was never its intention. It was to mitigate that risk by reducing the potential exposure people had.

What's your opposition to last year's OSHA ETS?

Well...yes. That was my entire point. You 'knew' that it was Luke about halfway through the scene, but seeing his face erased any lingering doubt. And you may not think so now, but you would have been left at least slightly disappointed if you hadn't seen his face.
I remember distinctly. I was literally... LITERALLY during that scene saying under my breath "don't show his face don't show his face don't show his face" because I know it'd be a CGI truss-up. I have a Facebook post from that date to corroborate.

So please don't tell me what I would think.

Luke only needed to be in the story to save the day and collect Grogu, and I still say they could have avoided that if they wanted to. Trying to turn him into a recurring character is going to increase reliance on this technology and I don't think it's good for the series, for Star Wars, or for live action media in general.

Here's the thing though, mandating this vaccine is wrong because you're still a spreader regardless of your vaccination status. Yes, a less severe infection means you're sick for a shorter period and it shortens the transmission window which is a good thing. But you're still contagious to other people. You'd still need to quarantine yourself.

Because of this, I don't agree with government-wide mandates of the vaccine because while it's somewhat effective, it's not effective enough to warrant a full mandate of it.
I feel you've literally just given a good reason for mandates in general.

But honestly let's drop the vague references to mandates that only exist in your imagination.

What is your opposition to the proposed OSHA ETS of late last year?

Even if the CGI was janky, once he took off his hood your brain still got that immediate confirmation that yes, this is 100% Luke Skywalker who just swooped in and saved the day.
Did you need to see his face to confirm that?

Was the black outfit and the green lightsaber not enough?

it's invariable that a lot more people would be complaining online about the casting choice than the janky CGI.
I have a particular finger for those people. They've sunk up to their eyebrows in the muck of comfy nostalgia.

Or to put it more specifically, they've seen a technology that could maybe give some passing semblance to a person who no longer exists anymore (Mark Hamill has not looked like that in twenty years, charitably) and selling them the lie of a comforting youth that they've lost.

Honestly it's starting to scare me how fixed I've seen some fans on this. They're mostly on Twitter, but God, it's almost horrifying to see how heavily they latched onto this.
