Banning generic staples would actually make deck variety less diverse, because it would mean only the decks with the best in-engine tools would see play and other decks wouldn't have the options available to deal with them. Not every archetype has a handtrap to play on turn 0 like Tearlaments Havnis or the Labrynth furniture. Not every archetype has a way to out an Expurrely Noir with its protection active. Not every archetype has a way to clear backrow. So the archetypes with the most/best tools will see play, and the archetypes that don't have those tools and were using generic staples to make up the difference will fall by the wayside.

Plus, what criteria would you even use to determine if a card is a "staple" to ban it anyways? Ban cards with high usage rates? Ban decks from using a certain number of cards from outside their archetypes? What about cards like Tri-Brigade Mercourier, who are part of one archetype but also support another? What about decks that aren't even based on specific archetypes but are just piles of good stuff like Dragon Link or Pendulum decks? Can extra deck staples like Accesscode Talker or Borreload Savage Dragon that are also part of an archetype only be used in the decks of their own archetype, or are they banned entirely? It would be way too complicated.

It uses staple handtraps like Maxx C to help weaken the opponent's first turn, it uses staple boardbreakers like Lightning Storm and Evenly Matched when going second, and it uses a staple extra deck monster like Accesscode Talker to help finish games. That only describes like more than half of the remotely playable decks in the entire game right now.

Okay, going by pure anime deck standards what exactly is the game plan of the Sky Striker archetype?

Go second, break the opponent's board, then control and out-resource your opponent's comeback attempt and slowly chip away their life points. The deck can sometimes OTK after clearing a board by using Linkage, but usually the gameplan is to slow the game down to a grind game until the opponent's LP are low enough to finish them with Accesscode Talker or a series of repeated attacks with Linkage. If you're forced to go first by another blind second deck, then just summon Shizuku, search Engage, and pray to whatever god you pray to that your handtraps and backrow are enough for you to survive.

There are 3 solutions that Mikanko regularly uses for that:

1) Use Fire Dance to summon one of the opponent's handtraps from their GY to their field, then drop a Kaiju over it.

2) Summon Ashura King. If you make it with 3 materials and attack 3 times with it, it leaves your opponent on 500 LP (2300+2500+2700=7500) if they're at their starting 8000 LP, and then you turn it into a Zeus to deal with their attempted comeback. If you can somehow make it with 4 materials (unlikely but not impossible) or the opponent has lost/paid 500 LP already, then it OTK's.

3) Equip Double-Edged Sword to one of your Mikanko monsters and attack with it. The opponent will take 4000 damage from the attack, both the 2000 ATK hitting them and the 2000 damage the DES would normally do back to you being reflected by the Mikanko to the opponent. That lets you kill over 2 turns, or OTK with a combination of Mayowashidori (to return the first attacking Mikanko to your hand and send DES to the GY) and a summoned Ohime (to equip DES from the GY to herself and then attack for another 4000 and game.

Mikanko is pretty much my emergency "switch to this if I get frustrated" deck at this point. Decks built to blind second are often good for that since you're not at the mercy of the coin flip (except for the much rarer times where you run into another blind second deck and lose the toss) and Mikanko are a much more consistent blind second deck than most others, including my beloved Sky Strikers.

That being said, Mikankos are currently craft-only due to their selection pack being expired and them not having a secret pack yet. If you really want a blind second deck but don't already have the Mikanko cards from when they were in the store, it would probably be more resource-friendly to build Numerons instead.

I've heard that was a pretty good Spright variant for a while, though it's not one I ever tried. I'd guess that Bystials coming into the game really hurt that variant in particular though, and I could see a lot of people playing Bystials in this format to deal with Mathmech.

So what's everybody using in the DC so far? I'm using my old faithful Sky Strikers on my main account and Vanquish Soul on my side account. I'm starting to really like VS, it feels like how Ultra Athletes used to play (with the tag outs on the opponent's turn and using almost no extra deck monsters) but waaaaaaaay better.

Welp, just saw a comment on Reddit with some trigger warnings that already made me remove one of those six shows from my plan-to-watch list for next season, and it wasn't even one of the three shows I was scared would have a gore problem either. Goodbye, Sasaki and Peeps.

So what's everybody going to be watching next season? I only saw 6 shows that I'm interested in, so it's looking like a light season for me:

* Chained Soldier
* Delicious in Dungeon
* Gushing over Magical Girls
* Metallic Rouge
* Sasaki and Peeps
* Sengoku Youko

Unfortunately, half of those (Chained Soldier, Metallic Rouge, and Sengoku Youko) have a decent chance at being beyond my gore tolerance based on what I know about them so far. I really hope Metallic Rouge and Sengoku Youko are watchable for me, because I'm really excited for those two in particular. They both sound amazing and look hype, plus Metallic Rouge is an original anime and Sengoku Youko is confirmed for a three-cour airing that will most likely adapt the entire manga (and that manga seems to have a pretty high rating on MAL) too so there won't be any "fuck you go read the source material" non-ending for either of those.

Oh, and in addition to those 6 shows, I also have Soaring Sky Precure and Apothecary Diaries that will be continuing into next season, plus next year's Precure series (the trademark already leaked, it's called Wonderful Precure) starting in late February.

I've had pure Zoodiacs built in MD for like a year and all they've been is Zeus turbo with a fuckton of handtraps and boardbreakers. I'm interested to see what possible turn 1 plays this stuff coming off the banlist opens up. Maybe I'll throw Zoodiac Tri-Brigade together too. I've been looking for an excuse to use the Tri-Brigade cards ever since the Nimble Beaver hit basically killed Spright Tri-Brigade.

I picked Farfetch'd for Normal for the same reason I correctly picked Sirfetch'd for Fighting: the meme factor. Miku has always had an iconic and memetic connection with leeks dating back to almost the very beginning of her existence.

I thought they would use that leek connection with both members of that line, but they ended up only using it for Fighting with Sirfetch'd. In retrospect, I should have expected they wouldn't have wanted to repeat members of the same evolutionary line. If I had known from the start that they wouldn't use both Farfetch'd and Sirfetch'd, I would have predicted Chatot or Exploud for Normal instead. I don't think they would have gone with Loudred, because, aside from Jigglypuff (who was chosen partly for coincidentally being #39 in the Pokedex, as the kanji for 3 and 9 can be read and pronounced as "Mi" and "Ku") all of the Pokemon chosen were final evolutions.

The theme of this collab was "pokemon that have some kind of connection with Miku", and in most cases that meant a Pokemon with a connection to music or singing, but not always. The reason I predicted Porygon for Normal ended up being the same reason Rotom was chosen for Electric: both of them, like Miku, are virtual beings that exist inside cyberspace. Miraidon was chosen because it and Miku are both associated with the future, and one of Miku's most famous monikers is "The First Sound of the Future". Plus, as I mentioned before, Sirfetch'd was chosen for Fighting because of Miku's memetic connection with leeks, though also partly because Fighting doesn't have any Pokemon associated with music or singing unless they re-used Meloetta again with its alternate Pirouette form.

The officiating is this game was an absolute travesty, but the Chiefs made enough mistakes this game that they didn't deserve to win this game the way they played anyways. Oh well.

I think I might end up dropping Black Clover M for the same reason I dropped Honkai Star Rail. It just takes too damn long to get stuff done in this game, and I simply don't have the time to put into it. It's a shame, because the game is really high quality.

It was a good run, but the Denver Broncos' lucha-feuled 5-game win streak has finally come to an end with their loss to the Texans today. Aside from that, I'm happy that the Dolphins and Lions both won in the early window, and the Jets and Patriots both lost. Now I'm waiting for the Chiefs tonight and the Jags on MNF.

Tidal is just one extra copy of Foolish Burial for water decks. I struggle to think of one that predominantly uses it, as Tears are largely Dark and Reinoheart Water. Not too consistent there, and dumping Reinoheart isn't anything too crazy. Good for Frogs but they fucking killed Frogs for good I think. Gishki? Icejade? Either way, nothing wild, just a decent addition

I want to experiment with Tidal in Marincess. Tidal being able to dump any monster to the GY opens up a lot of interesting targets to be revived with Coral Anemone, and it can special summon itself as a water extender too if needed. Plus, with an easy to summon level 7 like Tidal and an easy to summon water tuner like Fishborg Blaster or Crusadia Arboria, you can splash in synchros like Dragite and Chengying.

I'm trying out Black Clover M. It'll probably take me a couple of weeks to judge it and see if it's worth keeping around, but I'm a big fan of the anime (and the game actually put in the effort to have English voice acting which is great because I preferred the dub) so I'll probably be a bit more lenient on it.

RIP Symphogear XD Unlimited, shutting down in January after 6 and a half years of service in Japan. We only got it for less than half a year before it died in the west (fuck Pokelabo) but it survived long enough in Japan to complete its entire story, and I've heard that story is amazing. But this isn't the end of the franchise, because a major announcement about the future of the Symphogear franchise is coming tomorrow and I'm excited to see what it is. Hopefully it's not something lame like pachinko machines...

worth noting both those alternatives dont scrub any metadata and have significantly smaller file size limits. Not discouraging their use, but its something to keep in mind. Freeimage seems to have the largest file size and cleans any uploads.

I know. I'm just saying if something happens to Freeimage (it shuts down, pulls an Imgur, starts giving everyone virus warnings, etc.) we have other options.

Ah yes, the days when basically every deck in the game had a plan B that was simply called "make Verte".

Small World is a nice consistency took to make up for the hits to the pots, being able to bridge through Crow/Chinook to any of the Floo birds. Chinook is pretty much only there for a Small World bridge, but in case of the rare chance that I draw it and can use its effect in the hand, I put a few Blackwing synchros in the extra deck. The extra deck is basically never used, so it's not like I need that room for anything else. I thought about trying to fit in Maxx C, but the deck is already tight on space and Shifter kills just as many decks while not being easily countered by Ash/Crossout.

Yeah, it's a rough one. Banishing face-down is basically the only place Floo can't recover from, and it especially hurts when Empen is at 1 and their only one gets banished face-down. Arise-Heart sucking up birds out of the banish pile also really... sucks. I've won the matchup before though, both going first and going second. Thrust into Harpie's Feather Storm when going first or into a board breaker when going second is still really stupid.

Kashtira as an archetype is just dumb and unfun to play against, even if the deck itself is underperforming a bit in Master Duel compared to how they did IRL. Personally, I hope they hit the deck by banning Fenrir and limiting Unicorn like the OCG did rather than banning Arise-Heart like the TCG did, because seeing Kashtira cards being generically used in other decks disgusts me.

All right. If no one else is having any issues, I'll keep using https://freeimage.host/ for the foreseeable future. While I was searching for potential alternatives, I also found https://postimages.org/ and http://pixhost.to/ as other options, so I'll keep those handy just in case.

I get this message whenever I attempt to download an image. I went back to the start of the topic and tried to re-download an image from earlier and the pop-up warning was still there.

All right, I understand. If those links are starting to causing trouble, I'll start looking for an alternative image host. I won't go back to using Imgur due to the crackdown on NSFW content and the deletion of old inactive image links, so hopefully there are other options out there.

Im so tempted to make Floo right now. I dont know why but the birds are calling to me. Doesnt help that in one of the free pulls on the newly added packs I randomly got a glossy Mist Valley Apex Avian. Felt a bit spooky.

They may be more bricky after all of the hits, but they're a lot more fun to play now than they were when they first came out and the deck was basically Barrier Statue turbo. Plus, it's refreshing to play a deck that gets to ignore the Maxx C minigame once in a while. I can get you my list later if you want.

That was the biggest one, and one of 8 penalties called on the Bills in the first half compared to only 1 for the Eagles.

Normally I would be cheering against the Bills because they're in the Dolphins' division, but seeing them lose this game to the Eagles after the absolutely horrendous officiating helped the Eagles stay in this game would be an injustice. The Dolphins were on the wrong end of a similar game earlier this season, when they were flagged for 10 penalties while the Eagles somehow didn't get a single one all game.

This is why I actively look for original anime to watch at the start of each season, because originals are where I find gems like this.
