Supposedly it was really common early into DC, but it's already been falling off once people realized how inconsistent it is. Ratpier being at 1 is the biggest problem. There's currently no reliable way to do Chakanine's effect to potentially do Draco Future into Drident without putting too much cards into your deck

Also hilariously, Dark Ruler No More + a Zoo into Zeus is objectively worse than DRNM + Evenly Matched due to the significantly less required cards needed to execute the latter.

My only difference compared to yours is a Wraithsoth instead of 3rd Unicorn (because I just happened to get it).

It uses staple handtraps like Maxx C to help weaken the opponent's first turn, it uses staple boardbreakers like Lightning Storm and Evenly Matched when going second, and it uses a staple extra deck monster like Accesscode Talker to help finish games. That only describes like more than half of the remotely playable decks in the entire game right now.

Banning generic staples would actually make deck variety less diverse, because it would mean only the decks with the best in-engine tools would see play and other decks wouldn't have the options available to deal with them. Not every archetype has a handtrap to play on turn 0 like Tearlaments Havnis or the Labrynth furniture. Not every archetype has a way to out an Expurrely Noir with its protection active. Not every archetype has a way to clear backrow. So the archetypes with the most/best tools will see play, and the archetypes that don't have those tools and were using generic staples to make up the difference will fall by the wayside.

Plus, what criteria would you even use to determine if a card is a "staple" to ban it anyways? Ban cards with high usage rates? Ban decks from using a certain number of cards from outside their archetypes? What about cards like Tri-Brigade Mercourier, who are part of one archetype but also support another? What about decks that aren't even based on specific archetypes but are just piles of good stuff like Dragon Link or Pendulum decks? Can extra deck staples like Accesscode Talker or Borreload Savage Dragon that are also part of an archetype only be used in the decks of their own archetype, or are they banned entirely? It would be way too complicated.

I've been flipping between Vanquish Soul and Branded Tearlaments on my side account for the DC and doing pretty well with both. I only ran into a couple of Bystials, and somehow I managed to win a game despite getting Dimension Shifter'd, which normally kills GY decks like Branded and Tearlaments.

On my main account, I'm still rolling with my old faithful Sky Strikers.

So while this isn't YGO, thought it might be interesting to mention Shadowverse is getting a sequel. It's an 8 yr old game, and once MD came out, I quit it. That's the Vellsar era going into the hotel ppl or whatever.

It was long overdue for a big update, but the core gameplay is mostly intact, except for 2 of the clans being merged together, which was already introduced as a concept in their physical card game. Shadowcraft and Bloodcraft are being merged. They don't have too much in common except for the ability to do dmg to yourself or your minions. It's weird that 2 of the more complex clans are being mixed, but it makes sense in that they're thematically too similar.

They're doing a super evolution, which adds yet another layer of text to nearly every units. It'll use 2 Evo points but only after turn 6, which worries me a lot. First off, rotation has always aimed to end the game at turn 6~8. It almost never goes beyond that, and some decks that are broken ends before that. So now they're just like putting a hard cap on when you actually start playing the game, and I feel like it's heavily favored to whoever reached turn 6 as their turn.

Their totems now also have active effects. Previously the totems have automatic effects that activate on some condition or destruction, as well as a fanfare effect that happens when they enter the field. So this is a really small change that's undeniably different.

They've also teased some new panels on the bottom left of the UI, which is very unclear as to what role they'll play, as the presentation never directly addressed it. But my speculation is that it's similar to the Extra Deck in YGO or Vanguard.

And unrelated to the card games, for some reason, they just added a bunch of mini games you can play together with friends, including mahjong and soccer lmao. But they have confirmed that doing so will result in obtaining some cards.

Summer 2024 I guess

That's nice of Shadowverse, but I'm still not going to play it. There's only two card games out there that I'd ever consider dropping Yu-Gi-Oh to play instead, but the chances of either of them ever getting a decent way to play digitally and in English are basically slim to none at this point.

I'm gonna check it out. As to if I'll play long term is suspect mostly due to me finding the gameplay inadequate compared to YGO.

People love saying it's a coin flip to win in YGO, but at the highest level, it's like the coin flip matters, but even then, the deck building and crucial decision/response making is far larger in YGO than most of the other TCGs I've ever played. If you're good enough, you can win more than you lose, and that can't happen if it's a win rate based on a 50% coin flip. It's because YGO was already made with user responses in mind. Comparatively any games like Pokemon or Hearthstone or Shadowverse that's made with automated "break my board" situations in mind, it's inherently far less interactive or fun compared to YGO.

But imo it's not a bad card game to try and to be a little bit competent at. It's fun once you understand how to win, but then after it requiring like 200-300 duels to reach the actual ranking and then realizing there are even worse duelists there because they've done that climb ages ago, it's not a great experience.

Current Shaddolls can go a lot of ways. Tearlaments are probably the best option right now with them. They mill the Shaddolls and can also fuse with them to summon stuff like Winda. Shaddolls are usually a smaller engine in this deck, but you can use more of them and the in-archetype ways to fuse to go Shaddoll centric. People usually don't do it because the Tearla and the generic fusions are a bit stronger

I have a lot more luck with my Branded Tearlaments build than I do with just standard Branded Despia, both in setting up better boards and playing through interruptions better. It's hilarious how many times I bait an Ash or Imperm with Reinohart so my Branded plays go off safely.

Branded is the same for me. I always draw like shit and end up with a handful of handtraps, Albaz, and branded traps. Been playing non blind second Mikanko and its fun if nowhere near as good. Nadir giving you even more ways to Ohime means you almost never miss it and you get to actually use the less common cards. It was funny watching a Vanquished Soul / Kashtyra deck go through their entire hand and never learning how Hu Li's protection works.

Its definitely one of the hardest top tier decks to pilot which is why its not very common until higher ranks in MD I think.

It took me a week to self learn the deck and I still learning new things after a month. Learning what each spell does is mandatory more for it then most others not just for the xyz to summon but for using the spells individually for protecting your monster and cards.

Theres also dropping the habit of just trying to summon Noir and pass. As youre need to rely on the other xyz other then plump to beat better opponents or when you just drew suboptimally.

No you don't. That's working as intended, unfortunately, which means you cannot ss the balls as long as you have any tuners in GY/field.

Hence why it also states 'Visas Starfrost'.

I heard Branded/Despia synchro stuff is pretty based. At the very least, it's not the usual Mirrorjade pass nonsense that made the deck die off after a lot of spins and face down banishes came into the meta.

You can run more Shaddoll stuff and use the Tearlaments just for the fusion aspect. Most of the other builds are simply gonna be worse than the Tearlament focus or be too slow. The problem is that all the modern decks simply do grind games better AND put up way better first turn boards. Tearlaments basically get you there in terms of first turn power, but they got hit so hard that if they're ever outed, it's pretty bad.

I can see here, a Shaddoll Mathmech. Mathmechs are a deck with some real legs. People will use this fucking deck long after it's gone out of the meta, so it wouldn't be a waste to build something like this. Not sure what the logic is behind the deck, and you'd need to modify it quite a bit if it's truly meant to go second, like with Triple Tactics Talent or Thrust.

You know what's cool about the TCG side decks for backrow heavy decks? You run Lord of the Heavenly Prison in the side deck. Might sound obvious, but you do this because people aren't really running backrow hate in the main deck. Meaning you can go backrow stack freely game 1, take the losses when somebody runs a fringe one-of harpie's or something. Game 2-3, you slot Lord in and feel safe when you draw it, cuz the opponents are inevitably going to be slotting in backrow destruction. Does nothing against Evenly, but that's about it

Been testing a for fun draft format. Scrounged up a ton of leftover sleeves >.>

Basically, you split generic non-draw centric cards into ~200 monster 50-100 spell ~50 trap, ~50 ED

Draft and game are played in 3 rounds:

R1 Draft:

You don't have to show your opponent your drafts.

You take turns taking 2 pairs of 2 cards from the Monster pile first, choose one pair and add to your deck, opponent does the same. You repeat til you have 20 monsters and put them in one pile

You take turns doing the same for Spell then Trap but take 10 spells and 6 traps.

Then you take 2 pairs of 3 cards from the ED pile and take one pair

You should have 20 Mon, 10 S, 6 T, 3 ED, and you keep them separate

R1 Duel:

Choose who goes first by any means. 4k LP each. Each player draws 3 Monsters, 1 Spell, 1 Trap. Turn 1 player can choose to draw 1 card from one of the 3 piles. Turn 2 and on, the turn player draws 2 cards total in any way they wish (e.g. 2 monsters or 1 mon 1 spell etc)

R2 Draft:

Winner takes 2 pairs of 2 monsters and adds one pair til they got 10, loser takes 3 pairs of 2 monsters and adds one pair til they got 10. They can make a 20~30 monster pile and dump the remainders back into the pile.

Do the same for spells and traps til both players have 4 more of each, and you must add all of them to the pile.

For ED, do the same til you add 6 to the ED.

R2 Duel:

Loser gets to choose turn order, rest of the rules are the same

R3 Draft:

Do the same as R2 unless it's a 2-0, but add all the cards chosen in draft. Same split, 10 mon, 4 s/t, 6 ED

R3 Duel:

Same as R2.

It's pretty engaging. I have a pile that's predominantly Dark/Earth/Light with Zombies, Dragons, and Warriors. I have Vampires in there that are really strong in draft with the Vampire lvl 4. I have a lot of Blue Eyes and some generic normal/dragon supports thrown in there as well.

Of course I have stuff like Goblindbergh, some Yuma stuff, Tour Guide/Sangan, Summoner Monk, all draft favorites. Monk is op cuz you can guarantee to draw spell in your hand. If you're aiming for it, you can keep choosing to draw monster/spell for your turn

I just reaches 15 myself after swapping to Ancient Warriors.

Too bad. I really want to use Mikanko but learning it with limited time might not be a good idea.

On my 13kth gems for Selection Pack, I got my 2nd Calarium and my 7th Riumheart.

I can make the deck with the surplus UR. I am not ready for it just yet.

Man I really want to build a new deck irl but I'm so undecided lol. I don't want anything too tryhard because I feel like a lot of my recent decks have been, so no Swordsoul Tenyi or Flood. Of course I also don't wanna build anything budget. I was looking towards Penguins but it just ends up being an engine for synchros. I'm also kind of over long ass combo decks and don't wanna build cheap floodgate.dek lol

My rank up duel to DLv15 on my main account was against one of those kkwut FTK bots, but I won by Widow Anchoring the Utopia Dragonar before it could summon the other Xyz that changes LP gain into damage so the bot surrendered.

So yeah, I made it to my usual Duelist Cup goal of DLv15 on both of my accounts.

To those who use any cards that discard a random card from your opponents hand, what program do you use to make sure it discards the best one? It seems every single time that effect gets used on me, the card I need to get out of the situation is the one that gets discarded.

I finally made it to a Duelist Cup Max! My vanquish souls leading me to something that has eluded me till now. I faced way too much Kashtira but I got pretty good at playing against it. With how I have been feeling health wise I am just glad I had a chance.
