https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/ubisoft-has-rebooted-skull-bones/

Announced at E3 2017, Skull & Bones is the first title lead by Ubisofts Singapore studio. Heavily inspired by its work creating the naval battles for Assassins Creed: Black Flag, Skull & Bones was set to expand the concept into a full game with customisable ships, PvP multiplayer battles and a large ocean to explore either alone or with friends.

Ubisoft had big plans for the Skull & Bones IP and had even started developing a female-driven TV show with production company Atlus Entertainment.

The game was originally scheduled for a late 2018 release. However, its since been delayed in three consecutive years, most recently slipping to Ubisofts financial year beginning in April 2021, and it was notably absent from this weekends Ubisoft Forward event.

The pirate adventure hasnt been seen since E3 2018, when Ubisoft promised to launch a beta test which ultimately didnt take place.

According to development sources speaking under the condition of anonymity, Skull & Bones had been struggling to carve itself a unique position among Ubisofts existing portfolio of open-world games, which also includes Assassins Creed, The Division and Watch Dogs, which led to a succession of delays as Singapore attempted to refine its concept.

Last year the decision was made to reboot the game entirely and move away from the premium box model of Ubisofts other open-world games, sources said.

VGC was told the new Skull & Bones has moved towards a live game model. The game will now feature a persistent game world with quests, characters and storylines that will drastically evolve and change over time based on the collective actions of the community.

This is unlike GaaS titles like The Division 2, which receive regular updates, but relatively static worlds, stories and content.

One person with knowledge of its development said that the social and live storytelling elements of Epics Fortnite had been a strong inspiration for Skull & Bones new direction. They said the rebooted Skull & Bones would have a stronger focus on collaboration, as Ubisoft is keen to appeal to audiences beyond the competitive action fans who usually play its other series.

The reboot also brought big changes to the games leadership, including the departure of creative director Justin Farren, who later joined Wargaming.

As part of the reboot, Skull & Bones creative director was replaced by former editorial VP Elisabeth Pellen, VGC understands.

Florida is legitimately closing the gap on California in terms of confirmed number of infections from a straight-up numbers perspective.

4 straight days of 10k+ in Florida meanwhile California's highest single-day total was "only" 9.5k back on the 2nd.

Only July 1st California had 249.6k confirmed cases. Florida had 159k, about 90.6k behind.

Now Florida is only 53.6k behind 13 days later.

https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/jul/13/donald-trump-jrs-new-anti-biden-book-misplaces-apostrophe-in-title

Donald Trump Jr appears to have forgotten one of the cardinal rules of the apostrophe: it comes after the s when the possessive noun is plural.

The American presidents sons forthcoming book, Liberal Privilege, is subtitled Joe Biden and the Democrats Defense of the Indefensible. Unless Trump Jr is referring to only one Democrat, then the apostrophe needs to shift one place to the right to make the title grammatically correct.

The book is out in August. Trump Jr said on Twitter that he had been working on it during the last few months of quarantine, and that he was blown away by what Biden has gotten away with.

Libs, he added, are already triggered by the book.

But Trump Jr was careful to share only a small portion of the books cover on Twitter, after Axios broke the news about the title, and he was mocked for the grammar error. His previous book, Triggered, was a New York Times No 1 bestseller, but sales were reported to have been boosted by bulk orders from the Republican National Committee.

According to Axios, Trump Jr is self-publishing the new book as a shot across the bow to traditional publishers, and partnered on it with the Trump Victory Finance Committees chief of staff, Sergio Gor.

His girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle, an ex-Fox News television personality who is a senior fundraiser for Donald Trumps re-election campaign, will read the audiobook, and also helped him work on it. Guilfoyle tested positive for the coronavirus last week.

Thats how we came up with the idea for her to do the audiobook, Trump Jr told Axios. We would take turns reading the chapters out loud for flow ... Love in a time of Covid.

Bidens national press secretary, TJ Ducklo, told Axios that Liberal Privilege was the latest in a series of desperate and pathetic attempts to distract from the presidents historic bungling of the coronavirus response.

Is there anything more on brand than Donald Trump Jr trying to cash in on a book filled with disgusting lies and smears about Joe Biden? Ducklo added.

TopicFox News achieves peak gaslighting, says Trump never called Mexicans rapists

https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/fox-news-achieves-peak-gaslighting-trump-never-called-mexican-rapists-1027329/

When Donald Trump announced that he was running for president in June of 2015, he made it extremely clear what he thought about immigration and, in particular, Mexican immigrants. But if you tuned into Fox News on Friday, you would have witnessed a gaslighting for the ages.

Most of the panel on the Fox News program The Five either shook their heads no or voiced an objection when co-host Juan Williams spoke the easily searchable truth that Trump called Mexican immigrants entering the country rapists during his presidential announcement speech.

And if youre talking about who likes division, President Trump pushes buttons of division and polarization, quite regularly, Williams said. I think youll remember he started his campaign by going after Latin immigrants. He said Mexicans were rapists and thieves.

Co-hosts Greg Gutfeld, Jesse Watters, and Jeanine Pirro all shook their heads in disagreement, while some repeated, No, [Trump] didnt. And Watters tried to downplay the severity of the presidents past racist remarks by reminding the Fox audience that Trump also said, some [Mexicans] are good people.

https://twitter.com/brooklynmutt/status/1282084505961013249

Fox News hosts angling for Trump during campaign season isnt surprising. What is surprising, however, is where the Trump-supporting hosts have chosen to plant this particular flag and how their off-the-cuff dishonesty seemingly comes so naturally when they are defending the president.

The infamous clip of Trump degrading Mexican immigrants while announcing his bid after descending from the Trump Tower escalator in 2015 was a viral moment at the time, and the media and Trumps detractors have referenced it ever since. Trump often doubled down on the racist claim and only weeks later tweeted that Mexicans are not our friend. Theyre killing us at the border.

But if Williams wants to follow-up with his sycophant co-hosts and attempt to prove to them that Trump did indeed say what Williams (and the rest of the world) knows, maybe he can refer them to 2018 Trump.

While discussing his stance on the possibility of caravans traveling from Central America to the U.S., 2018 Trump remembered his own 2015 racism very well.

Remember my opening remarks at Trump Tower, when I opened, everybody said, Oh, he was so tough, and I used the word rape. And yesterday, it came out where, this journey coming up, women are raped at levels that nobody has ever seen before. They dont want to mention that, Trump said.

And because this article is stupid and didn't actually include his original quote, here's what he said:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2015/06/16/full-text-donald-trump-announces-a-presidential-bid/

Thank you. It's true, and these are the best and the finest. When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. They're not sending you. They're not sending you. They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.

But I speak to border guards and they tell us what we're getting. And it only makes common sense. It only makes common sense. They're sending us not the right people.

Some other context to this:

There have been 0 new COVID cases in Okinawa since April, US military numbers have never been included in this figure because the US military refuses to disclose COVID information.

New reports show 60+ US military infections this week. This information was leaked to the press and not disclosed voluntarily. It is suspected that this sudden spike is related to several large July 4th parties last week and military related personnel breaking their mandatory two-week quarantine.

It is currently impossible to perform tracing, quarantining, and monitoring for Japanese citizens who have come into contact with infected US personnel. This is because the US refuses to disclose the necessary information to local health officials.

Japan currently bans Americans and other individuals from high risk countries from flying into Japan to avoid COVID spread, but this restriction does not apply to US military and affiliated personnel.

US military officials have repeatedly assured the public that all new arrivals to Okinawa are subject to their own thorough quarantine procedures. However, it was leaked recently that many of these quarantines were held at rented apartments or hotels in local communities that were never informed that buildings in their neighborhoods were being used as COVID quarantine centers.

TLDR: After a small initial outbreak in march, Okinawa prefecture has been extremely successful in containing COVID and brought down daily new cases to 0 for a period of several months. However, the US military is now responsible for a huge spike in infections that threatens to put all of this progress at risk, which is made worse by the US side's refusal to cooperate with local health officials.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jul/12/okinawa-demands-answers-from-us-after-61-marines-contract-coronovirus

The governor of Okinawa island in Japan has demanded that a United States military commander take tougher prevention measures and have more transparency after officials were told more than 60 marines at two bases have been infected with the coronavirus over the past few days.

On Sunday Okinawan officials reported 61 cases, 38 of them at marine corps air station Futenma, which is at the center of a relocation dispute, and another 23 at Camp Hansen since 7 July.

US military officials have told them the two bases have been put into lockdown.

The disclosure of the exact figures came only after repeated requests.

Late on Saturday governor Denny Tamaki spoke on the phone to Lt Gen H Stacy Clardy, commander of III Marine Expeditionary Force, and insisted the US increases its disease prevention measures to maximum levels, stops sending personnel to Okinawa and seals the bases.

It is extremely regrettable that the infections are rapidly spreading among US personnel when we Okinawans are doing our utmost to contain the infections, Tamaki said.

We now have strong doubts that the US military has taken adequate disease prevention measures.

Adding to Okinawans concern is quarantining an unidentified number of American service members arriving from mainland US for staff rotations at an off-base hotel due to shortage of space on base, officials said.

The marines said on Friday that the troops were taking additional protective measures to limit the spread of the coronavirus and were restricting off-base activities.

The statement said measures were to protect our forces, our families, and the local community, without providing details on the infections.

The marine corps installations Pacific said on its Facebook page on Saturday that this week it had had two localized clusters of individuals who tested positive for the virus. It said those who tested positive were in isolation.

Okinawa is home to more than half of about 50,000 American troops in Japan under a bilateral security pact, and the residents are sensitive to US base-related problems. Many Okinawans have long complained about pollution, noise and crime.

Okinawans also oppose a planned relocation of Futenma air base from the current site in a densely populated area in the south to a less populated area on the east coast.

Okinawa has had about 150 cases of the coronavirus. In all, Japan has had about 21,000 cases and 1,000 deaths. Tokyo reported more than 200 new cases for a third straight day on Saturday.

https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2020-07-11/commuting-roger-stone-s-sentence-should-get-trump-impeached

By commuting the prison sentence of Roger Stone, President Donald Trump has made his contempt for the rule of law plain for all to see. Clemency for a crony convicted of interfering with an investigation of presidential malfeasance is a flagrant abuse of power. President Richard Nixon wasnt willing to pardon the Watergate criminals who broke into Democratic Party offices in the run-up to the 1972 presidential campaign because he knew how bad it would look; the evidence that Nixon hinted at clemency for his convicted associates was part of the reason he was eventually forced to resign or face certain impeachment by the House of Representatives and conviction and removal by the Senate.

Stone, Trumps friend and a longtime Republican political operative, was sentenced to more than three years in prison for lying to congressional investigators and witness tampering in matters related to inquiries about Russian interference in the 2016 campaign. The investigation by Robert Mueller, the special counsel who conducted the probe of Russias activities, concluded not only that Stone had behaved improperly, but that Trumps public actions praising him were part of what amounted to obstruction of justice**. The decision Friday night to commute Stones sentence comes after other presidential actions taken after the impeachment acquittal by the Senate that include the firing of several inspectors general, retaliation against officials who testified truthfully to Congress, and of course Trumps continuing refusal to submit to normal oversight by Congress. All were abuses of presidential power, exactly what the impeachment and removal power of Congress is designed for.

No more investigations are needed to establish that fact. Trump simply has given up on even the pretense of respecting the rule of law and honoring his oath of office. Rather than follow his oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, Trump is trampling on that document and all it means.

The only question is what to do about it.

And that comes down to Republicans.

The oddity of the situation is that the Stone clemency gives them a last chance that they dont deserve. At this late date, with people starting to vote in the 2020 election in only a couple of months, the incentives for the party to stand behind their leader are extremely strong. Harsh criticism of a president from highly visible members of his own party would make the president less popular, and given high levels of partisan polarization, that would hurt House and Senate candidates given that ticket-splitting is rare. So however outlandish Trumps words and deeds, whether hes suggesting that it might be a good idea for people to inject bleach to cure a coronavirus infection, or attacking a popular Black Nascar driver who found a noose being used as a garage pull, or excusing any number of corrupt actions taken on his behalf, its hard for them to criticize the top of their ticket.

But if Republicans wanted an escape hatch and they should, given how hes dragging down the party and is apparently unable to do much these days other than feel sorry for himself now they have one. As we saw during the winter, theres no strict protocol for impeachment, meaning that if both parties are on board, it could happen very quickly. Indeed, if Republican and Democratic leaders wanted to cooperate, they could do the whole thing in a week or two. Republicans would of course be stuck with Trump attempting to avenge himself through November, but if they stuck together, and if Republican-aligned media backed them, a twice-impeached and once-removed president with a Twitter account and scant institutional support might turn out to be a mild nuisance at most. Republicans would be left with a relatively unblemished President Mike Pence, who might even manage to win some popularity just by showing normal human empathy for those who have been stricken with the coronavirus and others whose lives have been upended.

Will that happen? Of course not. South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham has already spoken in favor of the presidents action. No doubt other Republicans will follow, and the rest will avoid reporters until the news cycle moves on and nobody asks them about Stone anymore. There are no leaders among Republican senators and within the Republican Party overall both willing and able to solve the collective action problem they have. Opposing Trump and getting rid of him at this point can only work if theyre all in it together; but if only some of them speak out, then they will all suffer.

A united Republican Party finally ending this lawless presidency would be the best thing for the nation and for the party. It isnt going to happen, and chances are that the failure will be punished harshly in November.

Here's how Quinta Jurecic put it in her report in Lawfare last week about the release of the unredacted Mueller report: "Trump had direct knowledge of Roger Stones outreach to WikiLeaks, according to multiple witnesses interviewed by Mueller. He encouraged that outreach and asked his campaign chairman to pursue it further, those witnesses said. And Muellers office appears to have strongly suspected, without putting it in so many words, that Trump lied to the special counsel in his written answers to Muellers questions about the Stone affair."

It seems like remarkably quick turnaround for a branding decision of that magnitude

They've probably been sitting on it for 5 years waiting until they were essentially forced to do it.

link?

fucking Cruz has spent 1/3 of his life pretending not to be Hispanic and 1/3 apologizing for being Hispanic and assuring the bigots he is one of the good ones, and now he says he ate Goya? Lmao

lol no not him, his grandparents

https://twitter.com/tedcruz/status/1281679899607142400

Goya was founded in 1936. Cruz' dad's parents died in 1991 (dad) and 2004 (mom), and of course spent most of their lives in Cuba.

So not only is Goya still not even 90 years old itself, it had only been around for 55 years and 68 years, respectively, when his grandparents died.
