This would be worse than Portugal's Euro win and Real Madrid winning 3 CLs in a row. It would even be worse than a hypothetical Portugal World Cup win in the future with a 37 year old C. Ronaldo.

So glad I stopped watching tennis after Federer won his 8th Wimbledon. That was the perfect ending for a sport I absolutely loved watching but was becoming increasingly toxic with Nadal guaranteed at least a Slam and 2 Masters a year because of that disgusting red surface.

I played this game kinda recently and I don't remember what it was. But yeah the game had lots of charm but was soooooo draggy and slow.

The final dungeon is not even quarter as bad as the Tower of Temptation. That dungeon is a strong contender for worst JRPG dungeon of all time. The only upside is that it is optional.

Absolutely terrible. And to think I thought SMTIV's (both lawful and chaos) was bad in an underwhelming way.

Inferior to Nocturne (especially the atmosphere and boss battles) in almost every way but still a decent SMT game. I personally didn't like most of the new Demon designs though and the story while more plentiful than past (non-Persona) SMT games is still not that great.

I think the reason why I'm questioning whether I should drop it or continue is because I hear the plot is actually quite important for the setup to KH3.

I've already beaten the mainline games multiple times, BBS, CoM, watched the cutscenes of Days and Coded. So this is like the last remaining relatively important piece of KH media before the 3rd game eventually hits.

I guess I made this topic in hopes that people would tell me that the games gets a lot better so that I have some motivation to continue.

Should I just restart in Beginner difficulty and coast through the game just for the story? Because I am not having fun at all. It is not difficult by any means (hell I loved my Proud mode playthroughs in the mainline games) it is simply a slog.

Also Notre Dame has possibly been the most soulless Disney world ever in the series. They didn't get it right with BBS' Disney Worlds making it too small but they went the opposite direction here in the worst way possible. Shame because this is actually one thing I was looking forward to in this game.

Does Square Enix just have like 1/10th the budget of the mainline games or something because this is kinda unacceptable so far.

So I've been in the mood to play a Kingdom Hearts game after all the E3 KHIII hype.

Having played both 1 and 2 multiple times on multiple consoles (PS2, PS3 and PS4), I thought I'd play the one KH game that I've never tried before.

My track record of completing the spin-off games are terrible though, mainly because they are inferior to the mainline games in every conceivable way.

CoM/Re: CoM is one the worst Action RPGs I have ever played with a plot that may as well not have existed. I did agonizingly beat both versions though (I was younger so I was more tolerant of these things)

358/2 Days was so boring with all its filler missions and I actually fooled myself thinking it would get better and played on for a while before I said no more and dropped it. I watched the cutscenes in 1.5 + 2.5 HD and that was more than enough.

BBS is easily the best one I have played from the spin-off games but it is not a very good game either. Everything felt like a poor man's KH1 and 2 and not to mention having to play as 3 different characters really dragged and soured the experience for me. The Disney worlds had a lot of potential but felt very limited and small.

Re:Coded is probably one of the weirdest and most unpleasant games I played. Didn't take long for me to drop it.

Given all that I have gone through with the spin-off BSes I'd say putting off from playing DDD till now was warranted. So then here I am, after all the E3 KH hype and giving the last remaining KH spin-off game a shot and abhoring every minute of it like always.

Here is my take on the game from playing for about 3 hours.

+Absolutely stunning graphics for the 3DS
+Great use of 3D function on 3DS
+Dream Eater system looks like it has potential but I can already see it has a lot of unnecessary fat that could have been trimmed to make the system more enjoyable to use.

-Camera ****ing sucks. The first boss fight against the Hockamonkey (or whatever) had me fighting the camera more than the boss.
-Enemies are HP sponges like in 358/2 days and that makes the battles a drag and not fun.
-Drop System is annoying. I actually got dropped right in the first boss fight and had to do it again.
-Maps are unnecesarily big yet devoid of any soul. I thought no way can Notre Dame turn out bad. Boy was I wrong. It was worse than Traverse Town.
-Character models are terrible and even more so when I'm forced to play as KH1 Sora and Riku.
-Most importantly, I hated almost every minute of the game I've played so far.

So should I continue and fool myself like I did with the previous spin-off games thinking it would remotely match the mainline game or should I just axe this playthrough and just wait till KH3 shows up at my doorstep next year?

KH3 > RE2 > Spider-Man > Sekiro > TLOU2 > DMC5 > Death Stranding > Smash > DQXI > RDR2

All of these are day one purchases for me. KH3 and RE2 is in a tier above the rest though.

Give me FC, SC and 3rd Evolution along with the two Cold Steel games on PS4 and I'd pay any price.

While we are still on the subject of Trails games. I would like to emphasize how much Cold Steel's gameplay is better than Sky's and that made the games more fun for me to play. Like it is not even close.

Sky overall has the better story and more fleshed out characters but Cold Steel has better group dynamic and bond between the main party. And more importantly the sub arcs are way more interesting in the Cold Steel games.

Also CSII is the best Trails game because it has by far the best gameplay in the series, has much better pacing than CS1 and my god that final dungeon and the boss fights there was epic. Not Reverie Corridor. I mean Infernal Castle.

I have been reading since the start of the topic but I barely post these days.

It was a good overall read and I have my fair share of disagreements but the #1 entry write-up was probably the best #1 entry write-up that I have read here on this board.

Trails in the Sky FC is easily the weakest game in the series from the ones I have played (FC, SC, and Cold Steel I and II very recently). Normally I would never even understand why anyone would have it as their favorite game in the series let alone their #1 game but your write-up made me totally get where you are coming from and even, dare I say, look at FC in an all new light.

You have to admit a write-up is great, when my initial reaction of "way too ****ing high" went all the way to " I can see where he is coming from. Maybe the game deserves more credit than I actually give it".

I myself enjoy great stories and characterization in video games but consider gameplay equally important, if not even slightly more so. An amazing game has to have the right balance of both IMO so I respectfully disagree with the Trails games being ranked at the top of the list even though I really did enjoy the games myself.

I can totally get on board with FFVII and Suikoden II as the very best the JRPG genre has to offer though. These two are still in my Top 10 after all these years.

Also, Cold Steel II is my favorite Trails game and I generally think Cold Steel is better than Sky. So you can take all that I have said with a grain of salt.

When she's down to her last bit of health, though, it's impossible to not get a little panicky.

This was the worst part about the fight for me. I would do everything almost perfectly till she has about 10% health. Then I somehow get caught in her ridiculous stomp attack and panic mode seeps in. Not to mention she is a damage sponge on Challenge (or above) so whittling down that last 10% of her health will feel like an eternity.

Learn Sloth, Weakness and Carnage spells if you are having a difficult time. Sloth in particular completely trivializes the difficulty because it slows every enemy (including bosses) to a crawl so I had to stop using it after a while. Also Stance matters... a lot. So make sure you practice each one since all three are very useful against particular enemies.

The game is awesome. Boss fights were definitely the highlight for me. It even has the hardest optional boss (or a certain duo rather) in a Souls style game.

Board 8's GotY so far. Go!

Having a massive HP Pool, having what? the entire arsenal of all the other Valkyries. Having to perfectly dodge and guard all her moves and then having to be on your toes for the hardest to predict and dodge move that ****ing glitches, stops your Rage and prevents you from resurrecting.

She seriously puts Orphan of Kos, Nameless King and all the other tough SOBs from Souls to shame.

I can confidently beat the toughest Souls bosses on a consistent basis after learning their moves but I still feel that the last 10% of the Valkyrie Queen fight really requires for things to absolutely go your way to win in the end.

I honestly think that I would require as many tries if not more to beat her if I ever face her again.

She is that ridiculous (or more specifically her one move is that ridiculous combined with the already dire situation) and I'm proud to have her beat once even if it is not on the highest difficulty.

I hope the sequel doesn't shy away from Super Bosses like this because the experience was fantastic.

Also I was Level 9 and absolutely destroyed the other Valkyries so I went in expecting not too much of a challenge. Boy was I wrong.

Mimir wasn't exaggerating when he said Sigrun being so much stronger than all the Valkyries you've faced so far is a gross understatement.

Yoy don't just get Smoldering Embers but other unique materials like Crest of Flame and Greater Crest of Flame which are required to upgrade the Mist Armors to max level (IMO the best equipment in the game). To do that you have to beat the Surtr Trials with a Gold ranking. Honestly it isn't that much more difficult than the Trials you have already beaten.

Just beat the Valkyrie Queen after trying for nearly 2 hours and what a tough mother****** she was (GMaChallenge mode). I don't think anything else in the game even remotely comes close in terms of challenge.

I can definitely see myself playing GMGoW in the future but I doubt I can beat the Queen in an even more difficult mode. I feel like the end part requires a bit of luck with all the chaos. I was literally shaking after having died against her like 10 times atleast after getting her health to about 10%. ****ing Stomp move is the one that always gets me. My Runics charged just enough for me to barely edge out a victory. Sheesh.

Anyway having done everything in the game I can say it is easily my favorite GoW game, my GotY so far (but to be fair I only played DB FighterZ and Ni no Kuni II this year) and I cannot wait for the sequel.

- Nioh is a Souls game and also the third best Souls game behind only Dark Souls and Bloodborne.
- Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams is the best game in the series by a mile and one of the best action games made.
- Xenoblade Chronicles 2 would be one of the best games ever if not for the rare blades gacha system and field skills.
- DmC: Devil May Cry is a very good DMC game.
- Shadow of Rome is ****ing amazing.
- Rule of Rose is unplayable.
- The old Tomb Raider games are terrible.
- Uncharted 3 is meh.
- Slice of Life in Visual Novels and basically any media sucks ***
- FPS is the laziest and most cash grab genre in gaming. Innovation be damned. The casuals are gonna buy our redundant **** anyway.

Well I had to catch up on reading the final few entries. Final Fantasy VIII at #1 is awesome since it is my #2 game of all time behind only FFVII.

I'm curious how the 3 Xenosaga games would rank here, if you have played those that is. I am replaying the series after a long time and Episode I and II has not aged well at all.

Campanella was so ****ing vague, I don't know how any one considers him better than Renne, Luciola and Walter. Loewe obviously the best and I thought Weissmann was alright as the main leader. I liked Bleublanc a lot as well but people seem to hate him.

MGS1's Fox Hound.
