Has anyone here beaten the Valkyrie Queen on GMGoW difficulty?

If so I give you serious props.

I beat her by the skin of my teeth on Challenge and cannot even imagine what she would be like in GoW. Her stomp attack is ridiculously hard to predict and dodge consistently. Not to mention it glitches and prevents you from using a resurrection stone.

Probably the toughest boss battle I had in an action game in a long time and I consider myself pretty good in the genre.

I managed to do it but man its fucking ridiculous. Not being able to interrupt or get out of range of the blind AOE is stupid unless I was doing it wrong the whole time

Having a massive HP Pool, having what? the entire arsenal of all the other Valkyries. Having to perfectly dodge and guard all her moves and then having to be on your toes for the hardest to predict and dodge move that ****ing glitches, stops your Rage and prevents you from resurrecting.

She seriously puts Orphan of Kos, Nameless King and all the other tough SOBs from Souls to shame.

I can confidently beat the toughest Souls bosses on a consistent basis after learning their moves but I still feel that the last 10% of the Valkyrie Queen fight really requires for things to absolutely go your way to win in the end.

I honestly think that I would require as many tries if not more to beat her if I ever face her again.

She is that ridiculous (or more specifically her one move is that ridiculous combined with the already dire situation) and I'm proud to have her beat once even if it is not on the highest difficulty.

I hope the sequel doesn't shy away from Super Bosses like this because the experience was fantastic.

Yeah she's brutal and the last 10% can be tense though a lot of her moves are relatively easy to read once you figure out her pattern and some are just free hits like her air dives

I don't think she glitched me with her stomp move on attempts where she killed me with that

Even then though sometimes she just does some moves out of nowhere that can fuck you over pretty hard if you are in a bad position (doesn't help that she has a fuck ton of health). That and blind AOE on GMGOW seems unblockable and can't be dodged meaning auto damage and can fuck you over for her incoming moves if you are too far from her (which is why I saved wolf summon and possibly time slow for those moments)

Sucks there wasn't something special for beating her on that or just better rewards in general. The GMGOW rewards were kind of crap (unless the sparta shield gives infinite meter or something, don't think I tried that)

My issue isn't so much with it being hard as it is with it being monotonous and repetitive

In general I've never been a fan of procedural generation in games because it usually feels like a lazy way of filling game time without real content. Especially with the structure of this place:

Fight random enemies to get mist echoes to get armor that helps you fight more enemies to get more mist echoes to get more armor to...

if you aren't going for the platinum and you already completed the story, there's no point in going through niflheim or muspelheim for that matter.

i enjoyed my time in both realms, but yeah, the grind in niflheim got to me a bit near the end even though i was getting 7-8k mist echoes a run. got into a comfortable loop of managing cooldowns for my buffed up runic attacks that i was finishing most encounters quickly through monstrous instant damage. the mist became a non-issue over halfway through unlocking every chest and realm tear.

didn't bother me too much, but i definitely understand why the place turns off a lot of players.

So I got enough to buy the Talisman, Pommel, and waist armor for the mists. Hopefully that'll be enough to get me through the Valkyrie fight

Maybe when I'm done the Valkyries and the story I'll come back and do more to sweep up the realm tears but this place is kind of low priority for me otherwise

Beat the game on GMGoW difficulty yesterday. Man there are some tough fights in this game. I haven't even seriously tried any Valkyrie fights yet either.

Overall I really liked the game. The new style is nice and the narrative level was something I didn't expect in a God of War game at all.

Yes.

You have to throw your axe at them as soon as you see them about to do the attack, which will interrupt it and knock them back to the ground

I think you can also interrupt it by shooting her with an arrow? Not sure though because that fucking kid always misses when I need him not to

Oh Kara's your first Valkyrie? Well there's your issue; I think people typically fight the Valkyrie near Thamur's Corpse (since that's the first you run into after getting the chisel) and I think that one's generally considered the easiest.

Yeah, I fought Kara first as well. Fought Gunnr as my sixth and yeah, she's definitely supposed to be fought first. Only Valkyrie I beat first go.

Yeah OK, I just beat my second Valkyrie (the one in the poison area before the mountain) and I can definitely see that Kara was way tougher.

the kara fight became manageable for me when i realized how few kara's moves actually are. simple enough to clean out the draugrs when i just had to watch out for a couple of attacks from a distance.

Took down my third Valkyrie, I forgot he name but it was the one in the mountain itself. That might have been my favorite one so far. I'm glad I've been able to avoid the temptation of dropping down to medium so far for these fights.

I managed to beat two Valkyries so far, the easiest ones. Only took one try each. That was before I beat the game, every Valkyrie I've tried since then has been quite a bit more challenging.

Defeated the Niflheim Valkyrie just before I ran out of time.

She was honestly one of the easiest Valkyries too. Defeating her without the mist bar running out was more of a challenge than surviving the fight was

Not liking this Olrun Valkyrie fight (the one in Alfheim). A lot of her attacks have the same windups, so it's impossible to tell what she is going to do next. Feels like the fight has more artificial difficulty than an actual challenge.

The attack do have tells I think? They're just more subtle than I was expecting. And she did the offscreen jump attack way more often in the first few times I fought her compared to now.

that's the worst feeling. I did that a few times. A day later I finally decided to watch a youtube video and got enough tips to beat her in my next sitting.

One of the tricks that helped me that I don't hear mentioned a lot is to not use your rage in one go. Activate it to stun her, then deactivate it. You get more uses out of it. Also, use the rage resurrection stone.

When she's down to her last bit of health, though, it's impossible to not get a little panicky.

This was the worst part about the fight for me. I would do everything almost perfectly till she has about 10% health. Then I somehow get caught in her ridiculous stomp attack and panic mode seeps in. Not to mention she is a damage sponge on Challenge (or above) so whittling down that last 10% of her health will feel like an eternity.

and holy shit of course he's Loki. Makes a lot of sense in retrospect (extremely smart, half-giant) and looking into general Norse lore I think I'm really starting to get a grasp on where the story is all going.

I think Kratos 100% dies next game, maybe even early on, because this is really going to be the story of Loki (funny enough it won't be about the god of war anymore) causing Ragnarok, becoming an enemy of Odin/Freya/Thor/Heimdall and ultimately going all God of War III on their ass. Curious if it'll promote Kratos as the main character or if Atreus will take over? I think Atreus is too young as is, but at the same time it said Ragnarok is really close because of Baldur's death, so he might not be old enough to be the main playable character by the time Rangarok hits?

The fight with Baldur was awesome though the end was a little anticlimactic (aside from the Loki reveal). The story seemed unusually close-knit for a God of War game (small main cast, and very few supporting characters outside the main cast).

Definitely an excellent game and there's a good chance it'll end up being my game of the year, but I still hold God of War III as the best game in the series so far.

I'm leaning to Kratos still being a player and that Atreus sorta fakes his death. They did seem to talk a lot about "Screw fate" when such topics came up. The snake seemed to be created around the same time so maybe Kratos will get sent back in time with it since that is a thing (and with how time moves differently between the realms that could explain things too)

Alternatively if Kratos does die, wouldn't he just end up in Valhalla?
