I don't have terribly strong feelings about the CT cast as characters, besides Magus > rest > silent main. Gameplaywise the balance is pretty good besides Frog (and even Frog isn't terrible, just clearly worse than the rest).

hero medal keeps Frog decent for a while, but if we're talking endgame, yeah he's way down there, both him and Marle.

All are pretty good characters though. Gotta dig out my SNES this summer, and try to get my daughter to play it. Especially now that I've found my copy. Though maybe I'll just get her the DS version. Is the DS version worth it if you have a working SNES copy?

Marle would be just as bad as Frog except she has Haste which is huge for action economy. She's pretty much the MVP in boss fights. Otherwise yeah she has low offence and isn't actually a good healer (though Life 2 is nice if someone who isn't her drops I guess).

Hero Medal? CT basic physicals are pretty weak (everyone gets techs which do more damage at a pittance of an MP cost), and you can't stack it with Berserker anyway. That said I agree Frog is relatively better earlier - Ice Water in particular is an incredibly powerful double tech in Magus's Castle.

Marle is great at single target heals. Cure is the most MP efficient heal in the game and eventually makes Cure 2 redundant at higher levels.
