I don't think anyone was trying to say 2B was properly seeded (strength-wise) as a 1-seed just because she exceeded all expectations. Honestly, she should have been a 2-seed (not in terms of strength, though).

Yeah, the surprise was that she wasn't hilariously bad fodder.
She was still overseeded but beating Ness was way above what was expected from her (let alone her score against Bowser)

That's a good match for #1 as Link/Cloud 2003 is the true worst match of all times.
Sure Draven/Link/Shepard "ruined" one contest, but had Link won , he would have been removed way earlier and not have "ruined" 10 more contest !

16 hours and 40 minutes into the poll, Mass Effect 3 had a 9252 vote lead. It lost by 1056 votes.

This result -- I don't know what the second biggest comeback in contest history is, but it's probably not even one third as big as this one -- gets short-changed a bit because of where the site was (we were pulling in only about 35k votes a match), and because of what we had already seen (namely, Draven). Once the comeback started, you knew it was going to be fast enough. The comeback would oscillate to whatever was needed to finish it.

Still, this wasn't some joke character. This was Undertale, a heartfelt single player indie game with a huge presence with the touchy feely indie crowd. We weren't talking about a game with 57 versions like Tetris or with 70 quadrillion concurrent players like League. You could kinda get behind this one in a way that you couldn't with Draven.

Unfortunately, the Draven stuff, and even the L-Block stuff for some, brings us to our most nihilistic place the second we see interference. This match had 18,000 more votes than the previous day which is quite a lot when you're only averaging 35k. Undertale pulled in 66% of the votes in the afterschool block, with some single updates reaching as high as 84%. That's wild.

Unlike Draven's comeback over Chie, you knew this contest was over the second you saw this. Board 8 had just been burned by enough rallies to know, in the age of low vote totals, that we were about to get washed. There wasn't going to be some mythical game that could shut it down like Pikachu did to L in 2008. The only response here would be a counter rally response, and there wasn't any faction out there that cared as much as the Undertale crowd.

This contest hit at the perfect time when that game was just exploding out of the corners of the internet and people were out looking for anything Undertale. Gamefaqs just ended up in the middle of it.

Im not gonna say anything else about this piece of shit except this.

This game sucks, and its fanbase is the worst humans in the world.

And I cant think of any way to show more how worthless the Admin is then 1: allowing it in, and 2: not disqualifying it.

This game nor its fanbase deserves no more of my words

Zelda used rallies to push ahead of Mario but Samus couldn't quite do it against Mario under the same circumstances (I'd even say people were pushing even more for her than Zelda in the rematch) so I cannot justify her being above Zelda or Mario.
I will chalk up the Snake match as lol non-transitive x-stats.

Man I remember when we constantly got over 100.000 votes per match! However myself and I guess most other people will never leave here as long as the site exists.

As recent as 2015 we were getting those epic vote totals. Granted it was due to Undertale, but still.

Undertale vs Melee was actually the second most popular match ever.
Of course, it involves a mega rally against the strongest "normal" rally we have had in a while (probably still weaker than Starcraft run back then I guess ?).

I think it's more Gamefaqs being obsolete.

In the golden age, even a boring blowout would probably have one/two whole stats topics for the matches. There, even hilariously close matches barely got one topic and half. I won't even talk about the votals as it's self evident.
The fact that everyone already knew Link would win also ruined Cloud/Mario and Cloud/Zelda.

Everything else is mostly in the air (and when yo usee Cloud Zelda Samus and Mario being so close, there is a lot of luck involved).

Back in the mid-2000s, I would have confidently taken Batman over Link. Batman has more fanboys than any character ever.

So obviously Batman could rally past Link, but at this point, we get back into takeover territory (which get easier and easier, maybe in 5 years, the hentai rallies will switch 60/40 matches instead of 51/49).

I think GoT would be pretty bad because I'm not expecting Gamefaqs to care for new series, just like they don't care about new games.

Seriously, everyone wanting Link removed from the bracket - because hes too popular to be in a popularity contest - should instead be demanding a contest with Darth Vader and Batman and Spider-Man.

The reason is obvious. Then it's not a video game contest anymore. It's a random popularity contest, and it doesn't have anything particularly to do with GameFAQs other than being hosted by it.

Like, if we're gonna go with a "fictional characters" contest, why not add historical characters? Abraham Lincoln vs Batman would be one heck of a battle, no?

Votals are kind of low. We are 250 behind Link/Zelda, which had Mario/Samus spillover, and 100+ behind Cloud/Zelda, which had Mario/Cloud spillover. But we are also 60 behind Mario/Cloud and I don't know why that would be.

Maybe it's because it's the two who always wins ?

I don't like the idea of retiring Link outright. One match of Link is just not enough. I think the gauntlet is cool because it tests the theory of whether Link fatigue can ever occur, and it gives GameFAQs what it wants (more LINK)

It's gamefaqs.
If there was a troll contest with a Link match every single day against 128 entrants and if he lost once he would be eliminated, he probably would still win, even if people would have to vote for Link every day for 4 months.

It's funny how inactive this and the previous topic was in contrast to how "close" the matches were (Mario/Cloud and Cloud/Zelda for most of it).
Then again, Link is next and he already beat all of them easily (except Mario but it would be embarassing too) so this might as well be bonus matches

We just saw this yesterday. Zelda needs a much, much bigger lead to be safe here.

Zelde can rally though.
So Cloud needs to do a lot better than against Mario.

There is nothing fun left in his matches.
He won't even get ridiculous % anymore so we could just skip his matches by setting random values at 20-25 for fodder, 25-30 for midcarders, and between 35-41 for elites.

That's basically all matches Link will ever get until the votals drop so low he starts losing due to antivotes (votals around 5000 I would say)

Poor Link. With another close match today, and no one looking like they have any chance of beating him, how is he supposed to summon up any excitement for tomorrow? Winning these contests used to be fun, but now it seems to be either crushing everyone with over 60% or getting demolished by an outside rally.

Link will never get a competitive match again.
Either crushing victory, overwhelming rally or contest designed to make him lose (and at this point I'm only picking Cloud if it's something like Link vs Ganon vs Zelda vs Cloud).

Mario vs Sonic should be super embarassing.
At least 40/60 I would assume.

Actually, look how much our votals are declined, for all we know it could be due to Link !
I'm joking of course, but I'm pretty sure if he hadn't been in the bracket, nothing would have changed.
We are actually getting lower votals in legends than in the main brackets so he is clearly not drawing votes.

This is also why it's a good reason to retire him.
No one could make a serious argument he can be beaten.

He is clearly not fun for the board (just look at the board vote against Zelda).
People less interested in the contest or who just pass on Gamefaqs from time to time won't notice, but it's boring for this very board

If you wanted to make Link fun, make his votes count half and he would still beat most of the field.

And this match is still not decided right now which is far more than any of Link's matches
When Link is involved, you can turn off your analysis, not even read the stats and pick him to win easily. You could find reasons for both Mario and Cloud to wins in that match.

It's more about the interest of the contest.
In sports, there is always the chance to an upset , there, there is none.
Do you think the NFL would be as successful if they told you the winner before the matches were shown ?

Even if Zelda somehow wins the rematch, it would have to be on the back of ridiculous rallies far bigger than the site can handle (and so while it would be far more appreciated than Draven, it would not be a "gamefaqs" result).
And let's be honest, in sport there is a interest in seeing how the top players play.
Is there any interest in Link's 60/40 matches ?
