Link winning is fun though. I was excited enough to do trend projections for yesterday's match, and Link ended up over 63% there. Watching Link gain 5000 votes with the ASV against Snake in the 2008 final was fun.

Crono and Link are my two favorite characters, and I probably wouldn't bother following the contest at all if Crono wasn't in the bracket. There are a lot more Link superfans out there than Crono superfans. If, at any point, more than 50% of the voters decide they don't want Link to win anymore - guess what? He'll lose.

Yeah this is the first time Link alone has been quite so far ahead of everyone else. At least before he was only getting like 54% on Snake, etc. He's really accelerated away from the field.

I mean he did get BotW and everybody else got basically nothing. Some of them even being actively hurt by their devs just putting on a shit show over the last few years. I'd also assume that the less outsiders we get, the more it favors Link too

This is also why it's a good reason to retire him.
No one could make a serious argument he can be beaten.

He is clearly not fun for the board (just look at the board vote against Zelda).
People less interested in the contest or who just pass on Gamefaqs from time to time won't notice, but it's boring for this very board

If you wanted to make Link fun, make his votes count half and he would still beat most of the field.
That's how hideously and ridiculously too strong he is

we need a new GREAT MGS game and the FFVII Remake and then Link will have some competition once again.

as much as I dislike Link's dominance, removing him from the contests is just not right and would make our votals even worse than they already are.

It will never happen but the contest I'd be most interested in would be one with some sort of handicap like how Vegas odds work

I don't think it would change the votals much.
Actually, look how much our votals are declined, for all we know it could be due to Link !
I'm joking of course, but I'm pretty sure if he hadn't been in the bracket, nothing would have changed.
We are actually getting lower votals in legends than in the main brackets so he is clearly not drawing votes.

Im not sure how even the biggest Link fanboys can look at his performance and be like yeah knowing who is going to win before the contest even starts is much more entertaining. Selfish.

The notion of a popularity contest with the most popular characters removed is such a silly idea.

We've done this in many brackets, and each time in resulted in a better contest than if we hadn't. All these late game matches are 1/3 as exciting as they should be because the final winners spot isn't on the line.

So give Link a bye to the last two rounds.

Removing him totally because he always wins us just stupid. Its a *popularity* contest. The most popular character *should* win.

I dont get what these matches have to do with Link being removed? These matches arent that interesting because they are losers matches. It would be different if they counted.

In actuality one of the reasons Link is less interesting now is because of the anti-votes. Watching him smash turbofodder used to be fun. Now he cant reach those heights anymore.

I think removing Link altogether would just be dumb. If you want him to not take everybody out, either:

-Give him a bye to the semi-finals

-Put the entire Noble Nine plus Zelda plus Pikachu on the opposite side of the bracket from him. This way he doesnt prevent any interesting matches between elites.

Very possible. Zeldrones proxies and so forth. She might win on natural strength, but remove Link altogether and she should boost.

Samus would be her main threat probably.

Pokemon would also be a lot stronger today than we saw in 2006 - a top 3 series in strength now.

With an expanded field of 64 game series, we could fit in some more series that were introduced after 2006 such as Mass Effect, The Witcher, and Dark Souls.

This actually looks good for Cloud! he is not letting Mario run away with the match. Cloud will need to build a sizeable lead during the night though, a 400-500 votes lead would be good.

Monkey Island should be significantly stronger than Guybrush due to respect factor. Many people that would vote for Monkey Island due to reputation have probably never even heard of Guybrush.

I do feel a lot of people underestimate respect voting factor from people who have played neither game.

MI/Guybrush should be like SOTC/whatshisface but to a much lesser extent.

I am not convinced Pokmon is clearly above each of Mario Bros., Smash, and Final Fantasy.

I think weve passed peak Mass Effect.

I would be interested in a Best Series or Villains sequel, or a Best Console contest for 2019.
