I havent seen someone say what inaccuracies they are upset about, though Im not looking too hard

I stopped watching after the third episode, but the major inaccuracies that annoyed me involved Galadriel.

-She is absolutely nothing like her character in the lore from the 2nd age. She should be married to Celeborn by now and have given birth to Elrond's future wife.

-She was banned from going back to Valinor, and even if she wasn't would never have been convinced to go on that boat. She was interested in creating her own kingdom in the 2nd age.

-The show completely glosses over her powers as being one of the only Elves on middle earth to see the twin trees. She should be able to sense the desires and motives of all those around her, as well as communicate mentally. Her men betraying her in the first episode was laughable for that reason alone.

-She should be much much much older than she is portrayed, and would be taking orders from nobody. She is basically the 3rd generation of all elves, while Gil-Galad is 5th or 6th. The High King wouldn't presume to tell her shit. Nobody goes around ordering their great aunts. She is either a similar age to Cerebrimbor, whose actor looks 40-50, or even slightly older. They don't go into his age in too much detail in the Silmarillon.

Elrond's actor looks older than Galadriel, which is insane to me as well.

I didn't mind the Harfoots or Arondir. The change they made to their portrayal of Durin (the reincarnation aspect) was understandable. Elrond and Cerebrimbor showing up without an entourage is fucking hilarious though. There is no way they wouldn't have a huge host of escorts as befitting their station, but whatever.

A lot of it falls on Galadriel to me

Season 5 is probably the best season since 1 tbh. Less annoying teen drama. More open communication instead of fights started by simple misunderstandings.

I haven't read these books in 6 or 7 years, and in honor of a BRAND NEW Dragonlance trilogy written by Weis and Hickman coming out, I need to change that.

Personally Sky of Swords was my favorite. The story being more focused on the daughter and Durendal was amazing to me.
You seem to have read a fair chunk of fantasy, maybe you could help. I vaguely remember a series about magic Swords and each sword had a different type of magic.

I have read a probably embarrassing amount of fantasy, yeah lol. Growing up, every weekend I'd go to half-price books and spend like $40 on random shit. I found a lot of my favorite authors that way.

I've read the first 5 or 6 in that series. I liked them a lot, but I haven't read the latest one that came out a few years ago. I read his Man of His Word series as a kid and loved those too.

Both solid choices. I always preferred The Elenium trilogy over the Belgariad by Eddings for some reason. Probably because I just liked Sparhawk a lot as a character. You didn't see many middle age main protagonists at the time.

I recently re-read the Wheel of Time series to wash the awful taste out of my mouth that season 1 of the Amazon show left.

I'm currently in the middle of a Riftwar Saga re-read, but I'm probably going to drop it since I've already read the best parts imo. After the first generation of heroes (Arutha, Jimmy the Hand, Martin Longbow, Trask etc) pass on then it just gets a little repetitive. Their children and grandchildren just feel like cheap copies of their forebears.

Exactly! It also gives them massive headaches and shit. The gods where both aspects are similar are the least effected. There isn't a huge amount of this type of interaction in the series though, so if you're mostly hyped about that then temper the expectations a bit. There is a scene with Mars/Ares early in the 2nd series where he swaps between them in front of Percy unwillingly.

It's actually kind of cool how they deal with it. They are the same being, but different personalities. When Greek demigods and Roman demigods meet up conflict tends to happen. The Romans aren't in the first series but they get involved in the 2nd.

I was a pretty big fan of the series when it came out. The movies sucked donkey balls, and this teaser has earned a lot of goodwill from the fans as it's basically the prologue word for word. The cast is more age appropriate as well.

This doesn't mean he was "evil" by birth or race, which is what I'm arguing. A good person can be forced to do bad things. He was literally willing to kill Drizzt when he thought that he killed a young elf during a surface raid, and when he found out that Drizzt let the child live he broke into tears. He had principles and stuck to them. During battles he would focus on hunting and killing the priests of lolth because they were evil. In his own way he was cleansing the city of darkness every time he fought.

And again, he really wasn't the exception to the rule since there were more non evil drow than they thought running around the realms. Jarlaxle was one such, and he also recruited many to Bregan D'aerthe. It's not a recent retcon, although I know that WotC is pushing to eliminate the alignment rules for pretty much every race, there were plenty of non evil Drow from the start.

Zaknafein was good. Drizzt inherited his good nature. Zak just didn't have a strong enough will to leave the Menzoberranzan. Drizzt also had a sister who had a good heart and was grateful when she died to be free of Lolth.

I'd argue that Jarlaxle may not be fully altruistic, but he genuinely cares about Artemis and Athrogate. He was also a good friend of Zak and looked out for Drizzt because of that. Hardly someone evil by birth or race.

There are others as well, they just tend to get sacrificed to Lolth when their nature is discovered. It is cannon in the Forgotten Realms setting that there was a colony of Drow living on the surface who broke free of the oppresive regimes of their city and worshipped non evil deities.

Early on, Drizzt assumes that every other drow besides his father and himself were evil, but he was proven wrong over time.

At this point, I'd kill for a true Icewind Dale trilogy series on HBO, Amazon, or any streaming service willing to pump a lot of money into it. There is SO MUCH material for them to adapt after they are done with those three books, too. You could even have a Cadderly spin off series, and eventually an Artemis Entreri and Jarlaxle spin off too.

Whatever happens, Salvatore better not let them do to his baby what MTV did to Shannara. Ugh.

There are a few rules when it comes to survival in the wilderness when it comes to water. I'd say the two biggest are:

1. Don't drink stagnant water. In a pinch you can boil away the nasty shit, but you're probably better off looking for a creek or stream.
2. DON'T DRINK WATER WITH DEAD WILDLIFE IN IT.

The fish are a pretty good indicator that the water is fucked lol. I hope this is an elaborate joke.

There's lots of difficult JRPGs. FF13 hunts were pretty hard and it was on the same system. Admittedly it's all optional content but it's a lot of it not just one boss.

Idk, I haven't found a single FF boss difficult since Ozma. Penance from FFX probably would have been hard if I went in blind though.

As opposed to other JRPGs of the time where every boss is super easy? Ozma from FFIX was sort of difficult as an optional boss for the first time, and the SMT games have some difficulty, but JRPGs aren't exactly difficult.

When LO came out, a lot of people complained that the early game was too hard. It was a common complaint on the forums and it even still is for people just picking it up. I agree that later on it's pretty easy though.

I don't give a shit about the skin color of the actors. I care about the lore of Middle Earth, and so far this show is SHITTING on it.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Gil-galad having the authority to send anyone to the blessed lands at this point of the second age is laughable. Him having any authority over Galadriel at all is insane (she is either his great aunt or he is her second cousin, been awhile since I read parts of the Silmarillion)

She also should be married to Celeborn and have a daughter by now (who ends up marrying Elrond, which is weird considering the show seems to be hinting at romantic feelings between them). Elrond himself should have a higher stature as he is the son of Earendil. He's not a pure blooded elf but for him to be excluded from the meeting because he wasn't a "Lord" is ridiculous.

Galadriel would have never, EVER, been convinced to even sail for Valinor in the second age. She was too prideful and wanted her own kingdom in the West. In fact, at this point she was straight up banned from ever going back.

I would have been much happier with the show if they picked lesser known characters to focus on, or at least less important ones. Hell, create brand new ones to mess around with like they did Arondir and Bronwyn. That storyline so far is the only one that didn't annoy me.

I'm also irritated that they picked one of the most powerful characters on middle earth to depict and then just depowered her? Galadriel is one of the only elves to have seen the Trees and as such has powers that others do not. She can basically mind read people and sense their hidden desires etc. She would have known her soldiers were going to "mutiny" loooooooong before they ever did.

I'd like the show a lot more if they replaced Galadriel, Gil-galad, and Elrond with random elves.

Sigh, I really wish I could play it again. I am tempted to buy a console specifically to play that game.

Lost Odyssey has me convinced that jrpg fans don't actually care about the quality of a story, they just want to play as plucky little kids defeating an evil pope or something.

We're talking about a game made by final fantasy veterans, with an actual turn-based battle system that still includes an active element, with classic open world exploration, a cast of characters that involves adults dealing with real world adult problems, and a unique twist around immortals that hadn't been used in a prior game. As a complete package it should have been a smash hit, and I can't help but feel like if the game was called final fantasy and not Lost Odyssey people would be holding it up as one of the best examples in the genre.

100% agreed. I'd put it up there with the best of genre any day of the week. The storytelling and worldbuilding was top fucking notch.

A loser? He pioneered wedding crashing AND was a trailblazer in funeral crashing. He was a visionary.

This is the other way around. Naruto didn't deserve Hinata.
