Swampert
Torterra
Samurott
Greninja
Decidueye
Inteleon
Skeledirge

5 Water
3 Grass
1 Fire

Very similar trend to my favorite base forms for me. Water is always king as far as quantity, but the Grass types I do pick are usually close to my overall favorites. Feraligatr, Venusaur, and Torterra are my top 3 in that order.

Mudkip
Piplup
Snivy
Froakie
Rowlet
Sobble

Water nearly sweeps. I don't feel too strongly about Gens 4, 8, and 9, but the other Generations are absolute locks as far as my favorite goes. Fire starters are the definition of always second place to me. I I like every single Fire starter in their base form. It's just that there's always a Water or Grass starter in the same generation that I like more.

There are two answers. The first is simple: I find it beyond dubious that either would ever be popular enough to ever be high on a "favorite Pokemon ever" to the point that their inclusion at all is a product of the way that the polling was done. By having it be based around Pokemon that are just directly surrounding one another you end up with "hot spots" and "cold spots" where there are a lot of popular, or unpopular, Pokemon all in a row and thus the poll is going to be filled with either several Pokemon that probably should show up or ones in which none of them should. My argument stems from the idea that this is in the latter case.

Then you have the answer in the way that things were seeded in that you end up with the seeds largely being based less on the Pokemon in question and more about who the Pokemon is surrounded by. As an example you have Chandelure as the #1 seed, and while I would agree with its inclusion it being the number one seed is based almost entirely from who it's surrounded by: NFE Pokemon. The polling highlighted pretty hard just how disproportionately against NFE Pokemon people were time and time again, and having a Pokemon surrounded by them in the polling pretty much acts as a "natural" complete centralization of the voting. This will have the inverse effect on the parts where there are multiple popular Pokemon or ones in which there aren't any major players in that they will gravitate towards people having random "I likes" and causing the polls to be even just from lack of any real enthusiasm. My argument is that both fall into the latter category, something backed up pretty hard by the overall polling data *heavily* favoring Scolipede as the "high seed" (with 37% of its vote versus Donphan's 27%) in polls that largely didn't inspire larger topics surrounding their specific Pokemon (something that you can point at for basically every "there is a Pokemon who can go all the way" topic).

This leads to a competition between two Pokemon that, in my eyes, just aren't compelling at all in the first place being matched up against each other. It is the awkward cross section of the two flaws in the way that the polling was done. Mind you, I am not criticizing TMOG as it was one of the only ways to get this all done in a reasonable fashion. It's just one of the things that is going to happen every once in a while no matter how you poll.
Obviously the process is flawed, but there is no process that isn't going to be flawed when you're ranking or voting for over 1000 Pokemon. Even in official rankings and polls you'll see Pokemon decently high that seem out of place as far as their popularity goes. If there was an objective way to find the 128 most popular Pokemon for a tournament like this, I don't think it would be that much different.

Personally, I consider this to be the most compelling matchup of this round for a couple reasons that aren't related at all to how popular they might be. One reason of course is just personal opinion. I think they're both almost equally great designs, though I'll give the edge to Scolipede on this one. The other is that they're both similarly themed Pokemon despite one being a giant centipede and the other based off of an elephant. They're quadrupeds that share a number of rolling moves with each other. Perhaps that's not interesting enough to most, but this particular matchup stood out to me because of that.

It's going to be incredibly taxing for PC players, which isn't too surprising. I don't mind so much because I built my PC 6 years ago and I'm at the point where I want to build a new one anyway. I just don't know if I'll be ready for February 28th, and I would like to play at launch.

Thanks for the video. I didn't watch anything from the state of play yesterday. This looks awesome.

I'm so glad that I was convinced to give this series a shot many years ago. It quickly became a favorite and I'm very much looking forward to this one.
I first tried it with MH4U because some friends were playing that. And the idea of whacking monsters with giant sticks was more than enough to get me interested. I couldn't really get into it though and I blame the 3DS for that. It just felt like too complex of a game for a pitiful handheld.

But I did try the Rise demo when that came out and loved it. Poured 600+ hours into Rise and Sunbreak for Switch. And this year I've put 300 hours into World and Iceborne. I only have Alatreon and Fatalis left for Iceborne.

It's a great series, and I wish I could have gotten into MH4U back then

IIRC he did have the power of invulnerability and there was a prophecy that no man would ever kill him, and he really took that to heart.
Although when Eowyn did reveal herself to be a woman, it made him briefly hesitate in doubt. Ultimately, it's less that "no man can kill me" and more that nothing could kill him under normal circumstances. Barrow Blades aren't easy to come across, and virtually nobody had the courage to stand up to the Witch King in combat like Eowyn did. But that's what ultimately did him in.

So I don't think Treebeard could kill him, but maybe he could fuck him up a bit? Maybe getting stomped on by an ent could at least briefly put a Nazgul out of commission? I have no idea.

I think all the Pokemon based off of inanimate objects get a lot of unfair hate. And usually the likes of Voltorb and Grimer are brought up as a counterargument when people are critical of newer ones like Klefki, Garbodor, etc.. But honestly I think Voltorb is absolutely brilliant in its design. I like the more complex Pokemon, but Voltorb's simplicity makes it so effective as a Pokemon design.

Also, I think regular Weezing is one of the best Pokemon ever made. I don't think it's that unpopular because it is a Gen 1 Pokemon after all. And it had a significant presence in the anime. But I think even then, it's pretty underrated.
