| pyresword 09/17/18 11:39:34 PM #206 | Yeah this is pretty much my thoughts on Your Name. I can sort of see why it's so popular because it is sort of...easily digestible, if that makes sense? Also I do think the characterization in the movie is fantastic, which is a good way to get people invested. I've said this before (like, every time I've talked about the movie), but I do agree that the beginning of the movie is much better than the end. The drama was somewhat good I guess, but I really enjoyed the body-swapping stuff at the beginning. I also like Garden of Words better, which is definitely my favorite Shinkai movie. Didn't care much for Voices of a Distant Star actually though. And then, I guess to round out all the Shinkai movies I've seen, I also watched 5 Centimeters per Second but pretty much hated it. --- Congratulations to BK_Sheikah00, this year's guru to achieve contest enlightenment! |

Stuff I'm going to be watching: --RErideD Hadn't heard of this show before today, but it looks like it's got a lot going for it. PV looks really good, concept has potential if done well, and it's got the same director as the original Steins;Gate anime. Also I couldn't tell by looking at it, but it seems Yoshitashe Abe is involved in this series somehow? I'm taking that as a good sign though it may not actually mean much --SAO:Alicization Aw yes more SAO. Since this is SAO there's a chance it ends up sucking, but I'm at least going to watch it to find out. This is supposedly one of the best arcs of the LN's also? We'll see how that pans out. --Bloom Into You Overt yuri series by the studio that did Re:Creators? Not sure how that's going to work, but hell fucking yes I'm going to watch this. Shows I'm interested but will probably wait to see what others say first: --Goblin Slayer Mostly here because of White Fox and some cool looking character designs. Might be good, but I can't tell at all what type of show it's even trying to be from the PV or the synopsis (which is a bad sign). --Irozuku Sekai no Ashita kara Will this be a good PA Works show or a bad PA Works show? If I had to guess now I'd guess bad, but I'm at least going to keep this on my radar. --That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime Ok with a premise like this I'm pretty sure it's impossible to not be interested. It also seems like it would be very easy for this to end up boring though, which is why I'm taking the "wait and see" approach here. Ok I think that's it? I will say there's also a lot of really bad looking stuff this season. Reading the synopsis for CONCEPTION was a bit of a roller coaster ride to say the least, and there's plenty more where that came from. Watching the movie right now and I can say that aspect hasn't changed at least. On a more positive note at least, holy shit is this movie good from a technical standpoint. Well, rereading, sort of--I first tried to read through it about 4-5 years ago, but I ended up hard-dropping it about halfway through chapter 3. (By this I mean that I closed out of the VN and actively made a choice that I wasn't going to read any more.) I'm pretty sure I've talked about my feelings on Umineko in this topic before, but in brief I really liked most things about the VN but really really hated the logic battles...which unfortunately are a rather large part of the story. Anyways for various reasons I've thought for a while that there's a good chance of my enjoying it if I attempted to reread it, so I finally bit the bullet and did it. An interesting twist this time around is that shortly after dropping it the first time, I spoiled myself on nearly everything about the remainder of the story. I've forgotten a lot of the details (such as Anyways I don't have much to say about the readthrough itself at this point--I started chapter 1 and read up until everyone gets to Rokkenjima, which at this point is basically just introductions to characters I'm already familiar with. I am looking forward to reading more though, which is nice.
