Given the earlier discussion of Redsox (essentially the equivalent of the non-racist division of Fox News on this board), its really hard to give a shit about Dems taking a page out of the HILLARY SAID SHE WANTS TO KILL COAL, AND THAT ALL TRUMP SUPPORTERS ARE DEPLORABLES playbook. I mean, again, its what I said about conservatives earlier. It said that Cuomo selectively cropped quotes from an oped to make it sound more favorable to him than it actually did. However, it turns out that the NYT Opinion twitter account had itself made the misleading partial quote, and Cuomo was accurately quoting that tweet:

This is just speculation on my part, and my pessimism tells me that it wont matter much...but I have to worry if internal Republican polling is showing a more dire situation than regular polls show with regards to congress. I mean, this Kavanaugh situation reeks of desperation. The guy is incompetent in his hearings, and Republicans have had to seal a FUCKTON of his documents (for no reason, as leeks have shown), not to mention dropping a bunch of those documents less than a day before the first hearing, to ensure proper review. It feels like theyre just rushing this confirmation as fast as they can because A. They dont want to risk angering Trump for vetting his candidate or *gasp* denying the nomination, and B. The senate deadline is tight and theyre legitimately worried that they could lose that majority. It just seems like they could insist that Trump nominate another judge without the corrupt baggage, yet they refuse because, for the same reason they rushed through their broken tax bill, they have a time crunch that terrifies them.

Because I have watched liberals over and over talk about dogwhistling racism with made up racist signs in meetings or comments, claim anyone who isn't on board with every aspect of LGBT agenda is a phobe, anyone with anti illegal immigration stances are racist, and thousands of other things.

Hell, it wasn't too long ago people were calling for jobs based on accusations from decades ago while also saying James Gunn should not be held accountable because the things happened years ago and he could have grown since then.

It is just silly at this point.

There was reporting that McConnell warned Trump that Kavanaugh would be the most challenging nominee to confirm out of the at-the-time short list. So it's not like this should be a surprise to them.

My take on the rush is a combination of factors: Trump wants Kavanaugh because of his views on Executive Power/Investigations/to protect him. The GOP doesn't really care about that too much because they'll still get what they want from him. However, they either know that if there's time to thoroughly examine the documents, bad things will come out (why they've prevented many of the documents from being released and given almost zero time to review the ones that have) which could either sink the nomination or at least make the votes even more politically damaging for their vulnerable members. Or they're worried about the midterms and the possibility that the Democrats return the favor of Garland. They can't get Trump to change the nomination because he's him, they're scared of alienating his base, and they simply don't have the time to start over now.

I tend more towards the former idea (though it could be both) simply because I have zero doubt that even if they lost the Senate in the midterms they'd confirm a nominee during the lame duck so in reality they have more time than most assume when they think the midterms are the deadline.

In this country if you want to attack someone's character you have to do it publicly. We don't convict people based on anonymous accusations in sealed letters. Congress should just end this farce and confirm Kavanaugh without any more hearings. Hearings were not held for nomineee until the 50s, the Senate just voted.
