Hunahpu is a god-tier tribe. The fact that it has Keith Nale, Jeremy Collins, Natalie Anderson, and Kelley Wentworth ALONE is great, but then you throw in glorious trainwreck Drew Christy, oblivious Disney Prince Jon Misch, and the Evil Stepmother in Missy Griffiths-Payne and... yeah, that's one of the greatest tribes in history that did the light-blue color quite proud. Reed Kelly also adds something. Quits McGee does not.

So what is the greatest light-blue tribe in history? Kucha, Drake, or Hunahpu? That is a brutal decision. We have Skupin, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Varner, Kentucky Joe, and Alicia Calaway. We have Rupert, Queen Sandra, Christa, Jonny Fairplay, and Burton. And Hunahpu per above.

Also wut at that bolded statement, this has been going on since HvV, and has been in absolute full force since Worlds Apart.

Game Changers is when it really started having a major impact on the gameplay. Before then, it was just one or two gimmicks or advantages per season that weren't idols (which is an essential part of Survivor). I refer to this new era of Survivor as such because of how impactful it has become on the approach to the game.

I still think "old school" goes to 12. I mean, yeah, 1-8 could be called the "Golden Age" with All-Stars being the ending point. I think Vanuatu was the season that started to put people off (don't ask me why), which is what caused the steep drop in popularity. The thing with 11-12 is that idols were such a new thing that nobody, including production, had any idea what to do with them, so it still counts as "old school" to me. With Cook Islands, the gimmicky way to divide tribes, the ability to react to the idol (Cao Boi of all people!), and the final three reshaped the game, which is makes that the first season that's not old school.

You've already failed as a parent if you really did name her Sofa and that isn't one of your typical lies. A name like that is going to get her bullied to no end. I fully expect her to change it to Sofia when she is 8 y/o just to stop the teasing.

What kind of parent wants their kid to be bullied like that? Is "Sofa" going to be the new Winry?

You're welcome. Glad it's not an issue - it's quite the habit of mine to polish the hell out of everything more than I need to, sometimes to the point that I make grammatical errors in fixing only half of one sentence. English major habits, everyone.

I enjoyed my first two hours with Stardew Valley - I played until I needed to go to bed. Just easy tutorial stuff so far, but I know it'll get better. My character also needs a hat... lol.

I like the broadness of your assignment since it lets students decide how to approach it. For a high school level, that's appropriate (I took Young Adult Lit in college; it was Cont Lit in high school). It's a good way to gauge how serious of students some of them are. And I presume the book covers that issue, so it's good to get them into the mindset.

I don't have the time to do this in detail or polish it until it sparkles, but here's a brief version (something that should be expanded - I would ordinarily go for two paragraphs):

Good friends always have your back. If you suspect something is going on, it is your responsibility as a good friend to make sure everything is okay - but doing so without prying. "Just making sure - is everything okay at home?" If there are warning signs, follow that up with "Hey, just want to make sure you're okay. You've been acting weird lately." It does not matter how close you are to that friend. Good friends always try to make sure you're okay and don't act in self-interest. If you suspect things are really bad, calling social services is not out of the question. Making sure your friend is okay takes priority, but you have to make sure they know that - if they're someone who will play the victim to you, then maybe they're not really your friend after all. But for their sake, do it anyway, especially if they'd do the same if the roles were reversed. Be a good friend. It's about them, not about you, and trying to resolve the root of their problem is the best thing a friend can do.

Keep in mind it's been eight years since I took Young Adult Lit so I'm a bit rusty! I tried to keep it all in second person as best as I could. As an English major myself, I'm picky with grammar. I like this prompt.

Consider this a partial return favor to your husband hooking me up with Stardew Valley last night :)

what

Yes, it's been a decade as of this month. In December 2007, @pikaness was exposed as a man who was manipulating the likes of @GuessMyUserName and @The_Utility_Man (sorry, guys), utilizing a false feminine charm to solicit sexual amusement. The single biggest nuclear bomb in Board 8 history went off, causing a day of arguments and dramas. Pikaness quickly exiled himself and, to our knowledge, has yet to resurface.

I must confess that Smurf tried to approach me first with all of the intelligence he had gathered. He told me to keep it quiet, so I did. He then ran to Warning_Crazy with the same info, then it all went down. It was a joy to watch.

I felt it was appropriate to create this topic for the month it went down. It is truly amazing that here we are, a decade later, still remembering it like it was yesterday.

Is Lauren the first Hermit Arcana contestant to actually show strategic chops? We don't get many Hermits and players like Zoe Zanadakis and Lunch Lady Denise tend to make very bad strategic decisions. Who else have we gotten for that Arcana? Trying to figure that out. Farmer Ralf, who found an idol? Most Hermits are terrible at a social game like Survivor.

Samsung Mobile. I may give them another chance if I hear enough about their QA testing and customer service improving. Big IF, though. I'm fine paying $400 for a year-old model that competes with the best of the best, like the ZTE Axon 7 I got in September.

EA. I don't need to say why.

I'm not at that point with EA yet but I have zero interest in Battlefront 2 because of how much they're milking microtransactions. They have to be cheaper. EA isn't listening, so they're getting to the point where I might not buy any new games from them.

Apple actually makes decent products, but they charge over twice what they actually are worth. If an iPhone X was $500 and not $1000, it would be a fine phone comparable in price to other phones with similar specs. The problem is the company and the shit they pull, not the product. The iPhone X is comparable to an Android circa 2014 with twice the price tag, though, so yeah.

I boycott four, in total. Three of them are never coming off that list.

Samsung Mobile - After I had to send in my GS4 for what turned out to be a hardware issue and went like ten days without a phone, it started acting up again very quickly. They did not fix it and would not replace it outright due to their failures. Because of the horrible customer service, I'm never buying another Samsung phone or tablet.
Apple - The root of all evil in the tech world. Inflates prices while decreasing quality, steals technology from others and tries to claim innovation themselves and sue whoever they stole it from, pays off media outlets to glorify them, and brainwashes the masses using all of the above. A company bent on world domination will not see a dollar from me.
Konami - You guys all know about what they've done to Metal Gear, Suikoden, and their developers. Legal games, career-ruining, blackmail, cover-ups, you name it. It's troubling how an entity this evil can get away with so much of it. I have never seen any corporation do things that duplicitous and not face any major backlash in its home country.
California Cheese - Yet another pure evil entity - see a trend here? I live in Wisconsin and I have seen ads by California Cheese that are scathing attacks on my home state... in my home state. I take great delight every time I see that a California dairy farmer kicks the bucket (I actively look those up) because they should not support someone that takes political games into a realm they should absolutely not be involved in. You do NOT insult an entire state in that manner and expect anyone in that state to give you a dime.

Before the fire in the Bangladesh factory, I also boycotted Walmart for their globalist enterprising and horrible treatment of their employees, but that incident was a wake-up call that improved their corporate mindset substantially. That said, they had nowhere to go but up, but still... I was lenient enough.

What about you guys?

Adam a year ago was a "false decoy" winner - I was starting to suspect that around this time, too. David was the actual decoy (and the best player), but Adam was built up as the top contender, then fell to pieces at the merge, then picked them back up. Ben might be editorially similar.

But the edit this point has been great in that we can't truly rule anyone out 100%. Just like Ben withered for a while, several of them are withering now and my blossom again. Ashley, for example, got to explain her back-to-back UTRs at the early merge by saying it was strategic, so that means those ratings don't rule her out, especially with her returning to CP.

I think the editing team is doing their own Edgic with the intent to make it confusing and inconsistent. It's working. This is way better than Game Changers when the obvious winner won, simply because everyone else had too many UTRs to be considered. Not the case here. At least this season is way better than last.

JP's blindside was anything but epic. It was clear that something like that was going to happen, and sending home an underwhelmingly edited sheep made it anything but satisfying. It was not that I don't like JP, but that the move itself was boring and a waste of a blindside. If Ryan or Chrissy had been sent packing there - as in one of the two people strategically capable of shifting the tide - it would have been far more awe-inspiring. But nope, it was just taking out the lone purple edit this season.

I just don't find this season to be very interesting because there's so much sloppy or unexplained play due to the odd edit. Mike's Statue of Liberty Play last week was horrifically edited and came off as making zero sense (seems like this was done because Ben, the winner, would do the same later on).

Yes, I just said Ben wins. I am not spoiled. I feel it's obvious at this point since he's still around despite all the buildup. I see it unfolding as follows:
7th: Likely Devon, by way of Ben's idol (reasons same as last night)
6th: Lauren, as "the ringleader" and for "being a jury threat"
5th: Dr. Mike, because "there are three Healers on the jury who would all vote for him"
4th: Most likely Ryan but the new F4 format throws a wrench into things, so it could be Chrissy
3rd: Most likely Chrissy given how three jurors so far have trashed her (Joe likened her to Chaos Kass; JP will likely just be "and things like that"), but could be anyone
2nd: Ashley
1st: Ben

The edit last night was not good to Devon (too cocky), Ryan (too clueless), Chrissy (both too cocky and too clueless), or Dr. Mike (dodo musak). I really only see Ben and Lauren as major contenders. Ashley might be a dark horse now.

Because the loudest visitors decided that SALT and MEMES were more important than actually being part of a community. This place was an utter shitstorm during that contest, and it's more than understandable why most people(women or otherwise) wouldn't want to join the community after all of that.

Worst part is that we haven't gotten a contest since then because of that drama, which in turn is killing the site. I'm just glad I hid in a storm shelter for most of that >_>

I know the two you're talking about as you've posted such thoughts before. After all of it has taken time to sink in...

Michelle isn't THAT bad. I mean, yeah, she gets egotistical at times, but she wasn't off-putting. She was pretty similar to a lot of arrogant jocks we've seen, even though she was anything but. Fascinating character arc, even if she was one of the less likable people. She was a spoiled brat and she knew it.

Tara can fuck off, though. I found her hypocrisy intolerable and to have to put up with her in every single episode got annoying until she started growing up down the home stretch. Even then, I still didn't like her. Such a spoiled brat and she didn't know it.

Unless - and I have no confirmation here, as this is just a theory - she figured Anneliese was targeting HER after the whole (epic) "I'M SORRY ANNELIESE" ordeal. I don't buy games at full price very often, usually only for a series where I adored the previous game. That has led to a few letdowns.

Saints Row: The Third - big letdown compared to 2, was worth $40 at most, not $60
Pokmon Moon - S&M were the biggest turds Game Freak has yet released, with handholding taken to extreme levels and zero requirement of brain cell use
Dissidia - I got bored with this quickly.

Just the first few to come to mind.

Reynold's first (NOT the "Hold up, bro")
Adam at the F5 of MvX (just for telling Hannah he had it)

Then there's expert manipulation like...
Alex in Fiji (that's probably #1 because it's so legendary)
Kristina in Redemption Island
Troy in One World
Spencer in Cagayan

This does not count the "oh, it's the final 5, last chance to play it" idol plays. There's no reason to hold onto it unless you have individual immunity and/or are very confident and want a souvenir.

It's circumstantial.

Jonny Fairplay was far from a dud in Pearl Islands, but he should have said "no" to Micronesia after all that happened, with getting his girl pregnant, him being on narcotics, and the Danny Bonaduce alteraction. I consider his return to Micronesia to have been a wasted cast spot. So does Probst.

Jeff from Palau is a dud no matter how you look at it. He added nothing to the show.

Jimmy Johnson had himself voted out? That's not how I remember it. I remember them considering going for something else, but vaguely. Nicaragua is a bad season, though, so I'm trying to not remember it, lol. I don't believe I've referenced it in my blog at all.

Jenn refused to quit outright, so I don't see her as a quitter. There were moments after the Hali boot where she showed she had a little fight left in her. While it disappointed me to see her lose her fight, she still added a lot to the show with her idol. Note how the sig on my main account still references her idol find >_>

Brandon Hantz on Caramoan was a mercy kill. The guy needed his Adderall, but then again I don't know if that helped him or not. He clearly has issues. His contributions to the show were not good ones. Him and Shamar should not have been there - Phillip as animosity generator is enough!

I don't see Ian as a quitter, just as an idiot whose sanity eroded out of nowhere. On Day 38, you're very deprived. Some decisions like Ian's or Woo's stand out because they're extraordinarily dumb. Even when malnourished and lacking sleep, nobody should do something that stupid.

Outright laying down your torch shows you never should have gone on the show in the first place, though. If you can't take it, you're a dud.

See, my rankings were "all things considered." That includes strategic presence, likability, rootability, impactfulness on season, etc. Do I actually like Chaos Kass? Not really. Do I root for LJ? Never. But Chaos Kass was a critical ingredient in the season's overall narrative and gave me someone to root against, which means I appreciate her. LJ was far more strategic and savvy than most of their other "boring hot guy" castings and played a major part in the emergence of Tony. Despite having a bland personality, he was critical to the season, unlike Jeremiah. I should've had him below Morgan tbh. You guys remember me liking Morgan at the time and that was probably just because of her papayas >_>

Perhaps I underrated Jefra. My big takeaway from her is how she entertained a flip, then welched on it. But she took her vote-out in stride and was overall likable.

Also Lindsey is the only dud, in my mind. Every single quitter is a dud. It does not matter what "entertainment" they offered to the season. They still quit, wasting a spot that could have been allocated to someone who wanted to play the damn game. Yes, this includes Jenna Morasca, who should not have played All-Stars given her circumstance and should have been invited back at a later time (Terry Deitz was more of a MedEvac than a quit). Worst quitters were NaOnka, Purple Kelly, Colton, and Quits McGee - two of them absolutely vile individuals, two of them sociostrategic nonentities.

Jeremiah comes close to being a dud, though. His best moment was when Tony tried to set up him the bomb with the fake idol clue, which Tony would've done with any alpha male. His second best moment, with the "I'm a male model, Google me." was funny. After that, he had nothing.

Please note the biggest reason I had J'Tia so low was because she had no hope for longevity in the game - something I've insisted since the season was airing. She was cast to be an early boot, plain and simple, and I'm not a fan of them doing that.

But yeah, Cagayan is their best cast ever. Top five (newbies only) also includes Borneo, Australian Outback, Pearl Islands, and China. Kaoh Rong and HHH are pretty solid too, but it's a shame those seasons didn't play out in the ways they could have with all the personalities. Unless of course HHH picks up from here... which it SHOULD.

And I never saw a single rant about how Kelley was the most deserving. Granted I don't exactly go out of my way to read social media related to Survivor, nor would I actively go seek out anything about Kelley. But I'm pretty sure I'd remember it if I saw it cause it'd be hilarious to read.

It wasn't that hilarious. It was typical "why did the best player get last juror again" stuff. Wentworth was one of the most rootable players that season and you guys all know I've been on #TeamWentworth for a long time, xD

does the "I get the girl I like to go out with me" only work once or is it reusable?

Interpret that the way you want. Does the "I" refer to me or to you? Does it sound like something that's going to work once or every time it would apply?

I'm just going to point out that the whole "Brian demanded an appearance fee for All-Stars" thing is actually BS and didn't happen. I remember Mario (the guy who does the Funny 115) explaining the situation and all that, and how it irritates him people still claim that, lol.

Source?

I remember reading a transcript of an interview with Brian and Sandra as to why they weren't on All-Stars and Brian said that he asked for money; Sandra said she was too sick from her first go and had to wait until their next such season. He was asked about that when he came out of the woodwork for an RHAP interview and he said he's "dropped that request." It made it sound like it actually was the case that he was demanding money.

I want Chris back.

lol at Brian being anything above 0%. Same with Chris.

And nobody was upset Jeremy beat Kelley lol. Nor should they be. The stupid casuals were upset he beat Spencer.

Don't be ignorant. Brian is only 50% because they wanted him back for All-Stars but he demanded the second-place $100,000 upfront. They laughed in his face and I don't believe they've invited him back since because of it.

There were rants on social media about how Wentworth was the most deserving winner. I saw many. To say "nobody" means you pay zero attention to anything Survivor-related on social media.

Would be my guess if hypothetically this were S36. For the love of God no Rob.

Too bad. Boston Rob is a lock. Because "everybody loves him" according to Probst. Did I get tired of him? Yes. but because of casuals, he's on. Period. They have to appease as many fans as possible. If there was no Boston Rob, there would be riots. I had no choice but to include him. My approach was more from a production standpoint.

I mean, I'd prefer Amber to him because it would be way more interesting to see her take another crack at it after all this time. She'd be a lot like Michele in the "underestimated" regard, too.

You also did not include Tony, which is heresy. Another Tony vs. Sandra bout would be hilarious. And Tony is a freaking Legend that 100% has to be included by any true fan.

Let's see... if we did an all winner season...

Hatch: 100% on. He has to be. He wrote the rulebook.
Tina: 100% on. She proved in Blood vs. Water that she still has what it takes. Iconic early winner.
Ethan: 100% on. His cancer is hopefully gone for good and that's the only thing that could stop him.
Vecepia: 0%. Nobody except the superfans remember her. She's not a presence in the community, nor is she very entertaining. Cirie would be a better choice for such a role, even on a "Survivor: Champions" season, yes.
Brian: 50% on. He said he got over the demanding the second-place prize money up front. It's only a matter if they forgive him or not. He would be great TV.
Jenna: Depends on whether they view her quit as forgivable or not. I forgive her. They'd have pulled her from the game later anyway. Because of that, if things between her and Ethan would be too awkward, they'd pick him over her if it came down to it.
Sandra: The Queen stays Queen. 100% on.
Amber: 0%. The only reason we'd ever see her again is if they did a Blood vs. Water "Couples" season. We're getting her husband over her every single time.
Chris: 40% on. I want to see this guy play again. Production doesn't seem as fond of him. Has he ever been considered?
Tom: Age is an issue by now. Would he do it again?
Danni: 80% on. While she was on the shortlist for Game Changers, they probably cut her because, y'know, she stays mum in confessionals so Probst doesn't probe her too deeply. That's brilliant but doesn't make for good TV.
Aras: 100% on. They need a shirtless guy.
Yul: 50% on. I think they want Yul back but the question is whether or not Zuckerberg is gonna let him. I doubt it.
Earl: 100% on. He was on the Game Changers shortlist, too. No idea why they cut him. He's charismatic and very intelligent.
Todd: 60% on. They'll want him back, but the question is whether or not he passes the physical. Is he still having seizures?
Parvati: 100% on. She's said she'd do it. They will make her. Because she's Parvati.
Bob: 0%. Age, worst winner....
J.T.: 60%. His horrendous outing in Game Changers gives them room for doubt.
Natalie W: 0%. She's off the radar completely and some people still don't get why she won.
--Sandra--
Fabio: ??? - where is he and what is he doing and why would they cast him?
Boston Rob: 100%. Survivor legend.
Sophie: 75%. She was not a big presence on air. She wasn't a very pleasant person at the time. Would be interesting to see how she's grown, given her RHAP appearances.
Kim: 100%. Legend. Queen. Etc.
Denise: 80%. She's not particularly memorable to the casuals but she went to every fucking Tribal. COME ON.
Cochran: 0%. Probst loves him, but he can't bend the rules with not allowing a CBS employee on.
Tyson: 90%. He'd do it again. He's known for winning just as much as he is for blindsiding himself, too.
Tony: 100%. Survivor legend.
Natalie A: 100%. They wanted her back for Game Changers but she did not clear concussion protocol in time. So she's on.
Mike: Meh.
Jeremy: 100%. He's pretty loved, though many people were upset that he beat Wentworth.
Michele: 100%. She is a very intriguing UTR winner who has a lot to prove.
Adam: His story was basically Jenna's done even more emotionally. A return visit would not have that story. It feels to me that his book has been written because.
Sarah: 75%. They'd want her, but would she do it?
HHH: I think no matter who wins this season, they're a near-lock.

Men: Hatch, Ethan, Brian, Aras, Earl, Boston Rob, Tyson, Tony, Jeremy, one of Chris/Yul/Todd
Women: Tina, Jenna, Sandra, Danni, Parvati, Kim, Denise, Natalie A, Michele, Sarah; alternate is Sophie

Remember casuals need to be taken into account here. They're going to want Boston Rob, Tony, Sandra, Parvati, etc. even if the superfans are tired of one of those.

The last time 12th place made the jury in an 18 person season was One World. After that it's been a jury of 8 and a final 3 in 18-person seasons, except Cagayan which was a jury of 9 and a final 2 (meaning the jury still started at 11)

And this is why I don't get why people are surprised. Twelfth place has not been on the jury in an 18-person season in the last five years. The times they merged at 11 were probably supposed to merge at 12 - Dana's illness in Philippines, Hairdresser Lindsey the First ragequitting in Cagayan, and BMC getting the Medevac in Kaoh Rong changed the plans to accommodate the numbers. Whoever was voted out in 12th in SJDS wasn't going to be jury regardless. Quits McGee doing her thing didn't change the plan.

They haven't started jury at an even number in years. Zero times out of ten would Jessica have made the jury. I highly doubt they'll ever return to a jury of 9 with a final 3. It makes more sense to start at the magic number of 11, where a jury of 9 and a final 2 and a jury of 8 with a final 3 are both possible. With jury starting at 12, there's no chance of a final 2. They know that now. I would LOVE for there to be an F2 this season, but I doubt it (twist spoilers) given the way the F4 works this season.

Using the precedent set by the "Big Moves" era... I don't see why people thought Jessica was on the jury. Are they really holding into a presumption from the Dark Age?

I was Mike from Pittsburgh with the tinfoil hat on. I waa trying to be funnier than I came off though.

Listened to most of that podcast (they lost me when the subject changed from Survivor to Game of Thrones). You had a good question and that's what matters.

I believe they've had a fake challenge before to punk people. Trying to think of when that was. I don't keep track of those things since they don't really matter in the grand scheme of things. I don't think that challenge is actually going to happen - from what little I gathered of it, there didn't seem to be any logical flow to it.

I know in Cambodia, Spencer mentioned a "challenge" when there wasn't even one set up at the 2-to-3 swap. He had to have been fed that by production, because Spencer is going to smell a swap in that situation, being a nerdy superfan and all. Makes me wonder if they knew they were going into a merge.

^Can't watch at work. Will try to at home. You've been killing it so far.

I also keep seeing people "surprised" at Jessica not being on the jury. I don't get how anyone could be surprised. They haven't started jury at an even number of players in the last five years. Jeff did not say she was on the jury. There was no Ponderosa video. Why are people surprised by the obvious?

Am I surprised that Jessica herself did not make the jury phase? Yes. Am I surprised that the merge boot isn't on the jury? Not one iota.
