It's a game that sets a precedent that it's okay to lie and release a game that looks nothing like it was shown and has way fewer features than promised. That it's okay to release unfinished and unplayable games and charge full price for them. Gamers are brainless and don't care either way.

Do you actually think Cyberpunk is the first game to over-promise and under-deliver such that it "sets a precedent"? Or are you hoping gamers are as brainless as you claim to not see right through how blatantly disingenuous your statement is?

The game was fine. It wasn't a revolution in gaming, but it was a perfectly serviceable GTA-like game in a cyberpunk setting with decent writing and solid voice acting.

I'm sure one of the few resident CE "defenders" will be here soon to chastise you for badmouthing Dan based only on accusations from his victims and not hard proof.

You legitimately weren't doing anything wrong, and while I can sympathize with someone who is paranoid if they're out late at night, the solution is not for you to stand idle until all women are beyond line of sight so that your very presence doesn't potentially spook them. That's insane.

Well do keep in mind that Reddit is international, and there are a lot of countries in the world where women would be stoned to death for wearing skimpy clothing outside.

There's lots of difficult JRPGs. FF13 hunts were pretty hard and it was on the same system. Admittedly it's all optional content but it's a lot of it not just one boss.

To be fair, if we are including optional content than Lost Odyssey has a 100 floor optional end game dungeon with a significant number of insta kill type effects on the upper floors that require you to treat every fight like a boss battle in order to survive.

Zero Mission is super tight, but I think there's a lot of QoL things in Dread, that it hurts a little to go back after getting used to it.

I agree, although I'm really hoping that Metroid abandons the weird parry system going forward. I was already not a huge fan of it, but the fact that dread makes it mandatory for a number of boss fights is super annoying.

IIRC Each party gets to nominate a candidate, but I don't know how exactly the final selection is made, which is why I edited my original post to emphasize that what I had stated is really only relevant if the person selected is actually a neutral third party.

I don't think I've seen a single person who is actually angry at the scene. I've mostly seen people just calling it cringy.

It's sort of like the Tobey Maguire dance scene in Spider-Man 3, in that everyone collectively agreed that it was seriously cringe-worthy and tonally inconsistent with the rest of the material. The difference is that emo McGuire became a meme and twerking She-Hulk became yet another one of those "you either like it or you're sexist" things.

Basically, it's a third party that reviews everything that was taken to determine if anything there is legally protected and should be removed as evidence. So like.. if there were medical records or something that's irrelevant to the case chicken because it was in one of those boxes the special Master would presumably identify those documents and then return them.

On paper this isn't likely to have any significant impact on the conclusion of the investigation. I would imagine the bigger problem for most people is that this effectively freezes the investigation for a while which takes it out of the news going into the midterms.

Edit: to clarify, the above presumes that the special Master selected is actually a neutral third party and not somebody with an explicit bias towards protecting trump.

Honestly, I'm willing to bet a lot of that has to do with more grounded storytelling. Having an entire chapter dedicated to having an immortal character who recently regained his memories visit one of his mortal children to find that, not only has so much time passed that she has grandchildren now, but also that she's dying, in the end forcing you to bury your own child in a solemn ceremony where the player can really feel the pain of living long enough to see the people you care about get old and die... I won't hold it against a lot of people for picking the story instead where you're the upbeat blue haired kid with a sword that has to stop the end of the world by riding a dragon into space to fight robot Mecha devil Pope or something.

I don't think that Lost Odyssey is boring. I just think it deals with a lot of adult themes that people either can't connect with or aren't interested in dealing with compared to some of the more fantastical alternatives in the genre.

Lost Odyssey has me convinced that jrpg fans don't actually care about the quality of a story, they just want to play as plucky little kids defeating an evil pope or something.

We're talking about a game made by final fantasy veterans, with an actual turn-based battle system that still includes an active element, with classic open world exploration, a cast of characters that involves adults dealing with real world adult problems, and a unique twist around immortals that hadn't been used in a prior game. As a complete package it should have been a smash hit, and I can't help but feel like if the game was called final fantasy and not Lost Odyssey people would be holding it up as one of the best examples in the genre.

Voted other because I think that we are currently in an era I would describe as the "Indie renaissance", and the sheer volume of quality titles I can pick up on steam for 10 to 40 bucks across a wide variety of genres is just far superior than any other point in gaming history.

I half expect that the reason they're stalling so hard on the ending is because they know the whole franchise will vanish from pop culture the moment everyone sees it, so they're pushing it back as much as possible to get the last of the merchandise sales in.

Well sure, it's not like everybody is going to agree with him in every point, but I also don't think he's ever presented himself as anything other than a guy who's played a lot of video games sharing his opinion on youtube. People are acting like he should have his "credentials" stripped away when I'm pretty sure he would be the first person to tell those people that they should probably not be taking his opinion so seriously in the first place.

There's a very clear line between a serious dunkey review and a joking one, and it still blows my mind that in this day and age people can look at his content and not see the difference.

I don't know about dumber, but it definitely proves that access to information is not the be-all-end-all barrier we once thought it was in leading to a more educated society.

If the growth is from government programs, than I think what it's saying is that the majority of the money they made was collected from taxes to pay for the government employees on that health care, rather than paid for by the business or out of pocket by the employee.

I would think McDonald's is worse. Subway is rarely packed and you only have to make a sandwich as quickly as the indecisive person on the other side of the glass tells you what goes on next. McDonald's post covid seems like there's a line around the building 24/7 and I'm sure management is on everyone's ass to get the food out there as quickly as possible to hit their target metrics.

What really sucks is there's never been a better time for it. Split-screen in the past was retrospectively pretty awful by today's metrics. The games often ran at low res, low frame rates on TVs that were rarely much bigger 21 inches. Nowadays few people buy anything smaller than 55 inch 4K screens.

I'll be fair here in that the push for hyperrealism is one of the reasons why they're abandoning it in the first place. It's generally way more resource intensive to do couch co-op because you're rendering everything twice, and depending on where players are you may have to render two completely different zones that you would normally only have to keep in memory one at a time.

High quality couch co-op inherently requires compromising on the graphics to make it play smoothly on consoles which is probably why you're seeing it abandoned. Borderlands 3 is a perfect example of this in practice since it ran like garbage on a base PS4 but worked just fine on a pro. They didn't want to abandon couch co-op but they also didn't want to compromise on graphics. So they just let it run poorly.

Luckily Android makes it extremely easy to sideload apps.

So many games are abandoning couch co-op and it really sucks. Borderlands 3 was nigh unplayable on a base ps4, back 4 blood seems to have effectively abandoned their plans for couch co-op even though left for dead had it out of the gate, and now this.

I'm pretty sure I've seen all of the .hack series, but I might rewatch since I saw most of them when I was younger. I think I even might still have some of the ps2 games. I've seen most if not all of Fate. Abenobashi sounds familiar but I'm not sure. Call of the night has been realllly good so far. Iirc space patrol luluco wasn't really my style.

Abenobashi is gainax. It's a light-hearted comedy that is absolutely jammed with genre parody. Sort of like a less wacky Excel saga.

Given what you said you like and don't like above, I'll throw out a few more suggestions that might fit more with your preferences, although many of them I'm sure you've seen as well:

I would also like to explicitly call out now and then, here and there which is a truly brilliant little gem that a lot of people haven't seen. It's only like six episodes long so I would highly recommend it if you haven't seen it. Put that at the top of my list if that's the case.
